No hype for the iPhone X here?

Looks decent. Can't say there is anything that makes me want to upgrade from my 7, especially at the price.  Camera upgrades and display and processer upgrades are always welcome, but nothing  wows me.  Seeing a lot of people complaining about lack of physical home button, but imo, who cares as long as it works.  And I am already bugged out by fingerprint recognition.  Yes, the thumbprint is convenient and I gave into it over my better judgement and use it multiple times a day, but personally, face recognition is going too far for me.

Keynote had some good stuff.

New iwatch you can make calls without the phone thats pretty big.
Wasn't too impressed with the iPhone 8 or 8+. They look like the Androids with the now full curved screen. iPhone X looks pretty cool but 1,000 bucks...cant afford that one.
Taking away the home button is interesting, kinda saw that coming.
The personal facial expression emojis is creepy
wireless charging is nice addition. Need that on the magic mouse 2
All I know is these phones are going to be a headache and very expensive to repair. Moving to OLED curved screen you can expect a $400+ screen repair for up to 6-9 months after parts start hitting the market.
Taking away the home button may not even make it possible with how the 7 uses a software button and how that factors into the repair. AKA, a chip necessary for any biometric unlocking may be installed on the screen and only be able to be programmed by Apple by their magic machine.

Basically if you buy one. Get insurance or apple care. It will be worth the investment

Thinking about the iWatch but probably not going to get that either.
Didnt realize the OLED were that much more for screen repair, good to know.
To give you an idea, Samsung only uses OLED
S7 (non edge) $150 part
Edge $240 part
iPhone 7 $30 part
7+ $40 part

S8 screens are comparable in price to the S7 edge.

Watches are super expensive too due to parts availability, the screens for the current iwatch is ~$120 for 38mm or 42mm. Get apple care if you get one!

Now that I'm on the 2-3 years behind cycle because work pays for my phone, my interest in the latest iPhone technologies is really waning.

I'll conjecture that many people are in this boat nowadays. We've gone through so many upgrade cycles (and the prices are increasing such that) that we can't get thrilled about all of them. I worry, further, that this introduces a pattern whereby the manufacturer feels an extra need to stimulate excitement via ever-bolder "innovations" that can end up swinging and missing. So you end up with new phones that are, in some important respects, worse than their predecessors, but you might need them to access certain features (hardware or software), or to simply keep from getting stuck with that last compatible version of the OS that grinds your old trusty down to into a useless hunk.
Is this still Wombat?

Nope. Lots of talk about ALO vinyl though. A format that the X can't handle.

GET INSURANCE!

But nice, the plus or regular?

I expect a box opening and review video upon receiving your phone.

Just did the same as my 6 as been unable to hold a charge for a while now. Still not happy about the no headphone jack but the wireless charging somewhat offsets that for me.

They can pry the Home button from my cold dead hands.

This is why I only upgraded recently from 5c > 6s

Rocking the SE. Kind of want to upgrade for bigger screen and better camera, but probably not likely until I need to renew my plan with Verizon.

The 7 doesn't even really have a button, it's a hole that looks like one, it's just a tactile feedback software "click". This will be the case on the 8, just now there's not a stupid pointless hole in your screen. Which is good. The S8 is the same and I have loved the screen real estate it creates.

I've been using the dongle thing for a while (with my work provided (by myself, the IT guy) iPhone7) and it's fine. I leave it attached to the headphones. It works.
