i just started seeing the coverage over the last hour, really awful news.  feel bad for his family, having the entire country know before them (apparently they are on a cross-country flight still - hopefully not Jet Blue, or they'd know what's happening and be even more distraught having to hear the news that way).

my brother lives a few blocks north of this, but his kid goes to school right at 72nd and 1st ave, so i'm sure he's a bit distraught.
