anyone know of a good Mac app for doing this in 2010?

i havent' had to convert my files from shn/flac to lossy in a few years, so i'm not sure if there is finally an app to handle that.

in the past, i've had to go shn/flac > aiff > aac

is it possible to go shn/flac -> aac now?

i use toast to go from flac to aac. it also plays flacs without converting them.
but it won't deal with shns, so i go the long way as you do

jedifunk

:(

too bad

but on the bright side, 5/22/00 rages

XLD does FLAC>aac
not sure if it can do shn

I like the XLD.  http://tmkk.hp.infoseek.co.jp/xld/index_e.html

I've had it decode some shnz but I've had it not accept some, too.  I didn't investigate further as to why, just did it the old way via xACT.

xAct does it straight from flac or shn to anything. Very useful. It is what i use.

jephrey

xACT only decodes to aiff or wav.  I also use toast (although I go to lossless)

jedifunk

yeah, i have xACT.  i was hoping that technology had advanced enough that i could go straight shn/flac -> aac.

will try this new thing, xld

No, lame encodes to mp3

:-P

jedifunk

ok, so this XLD isn't that great.

it wouldn't even convert some of my flacs either.  it didn't recognize so of them.

crap

I can't remember but it might come default set to have the output directory the same as the input.  And if you're decoding them from discs, then...  Just in case that's the problem.

re: the shn files - fwiw, I checked last night myself- I could get it to decode a bunch of GD shnz, but before that I had tried a couple Genesis shows and it would not decode from any of those filesets

Huh.  I never had a problem with a .flac using it here yet.  Drag.
