I had posted this shortly before week4paug went down, and it looks like this post got lost.  So here's the scoop.

I recently put together a 500 GB external USB hard drive completely filled with Phish for a friend. 
and now I'm offering to copy this hard drive for a couple of people, provided that they, in turn, will offer to copy it to others.  We'll do this old school B&P style, except with a blank hard drive instead of blank CDs or tapes.

here's what I'm thinking:

1) you send me an empty, 500 GB external USB 2.0 hard drive, and return postage.
2) I'll copy the entire contents of the drive for you and send it back.
3) you get the hard drive, enjoy all the tunes, and offer to do a few B&P's for someone else.

damn boyee!  i would be interested, but i have never used the external HD...is it fairly easy to understand/use?  how much do they cost?  I really have been thinking of asking this of someone on here, but didn't know if it was too much to ask.  Thanks for any answers, bneji

When I was first looking into buying one many years ago, the "rule of thumb" was about $1 to 1 gigabyte.

Nowadays, it is almost cheaper than that, much cheaper.

yeah, it's a lot cheaper than $1 per GB.  more like $0.20 - $0.25 per GB, depending on the drive.

based on how long it took to copy the first 500GB drive that I filled up to a second drive, if I leave it going overnight, that should do it.  I think 12-13 hours for the whole thing.  I might do it in two chunks, depending on what time in the evening I get it started.  so, not too bad.  Figure that I'll mail it back to you within a week of me getting the drive.

the drive is nothing.  you can get a 500GB drive for $125 easy, maybe less with a good deal or something.  my problem now is that I want to get a dedicated playback computer to hook up to my main stereo.

I wonder sometimes though if I would like to get all those shows in one fell swoop.  I mean, I always enjoyed the thrill of the chase for some reason.  Searching out and finding all the shows you want to hear one by one.  Then when you finally locate someone with a show willing to trade or b&p....BOOYAH.  Happiness.  Have I gone big and gotten multiple shows and full tours?  Many times.  And I still will in the future I'm sure.  But gettin shows one at a time was always a thrill for me.  F'd up I know.

Or, as I mentioned before, it could be the wife's influence that is making me not want to. Ha.   :wink:

I know you're still a little new to the band.
But I used to love to get a new SET on tape and listen to it over and over.
You knew that shit inside and out.
Getting shows now is a little too easy and it kinda takes away from that intimacy.
Jason's offer is sweet as hell and I wish more people would take him up on it.
For you, I might stick with discovering new shows one at a time, though.

I was thinking about doing this but had to buy a drive for my  that have filled up my laptop.  I will be interested in the next generation of this if some one takes the offer and shares.  OR if its still open in a few more weeks.
