You would've thought over the past 30 years, artists would realize that computer graphics have no place in live concert footage.  Sooner or later it's going to look extremely dated and stupid.

I saw them a couple of years ago and they kicked ass. I even caught one of Portnoy's sticks. Are the computer graphics mixed with the footage or used as background scenes? If they're mixed with the footage, that sucks.

Some of it is mixed with the footage, but there's a lot of background stuff, as well.  I find myself watching the bonus tracks more often than the Scenes from a Memory set because they didn't do any graphics with those.  I've seen them a bunch of times myself.  They're pretty amazing (apart from the singer).  You can tell they practice for hours a day.  I don't think I've ever heard them make a mistake live.  Pretty impressive.

Right on , man.  Mike Portnoy is a machine. So is John Petrucci. I think my favorite side project of theirs is Liquid Tension Experiment with Tony Levin on bass. I have a show of theirs (AUD only) from June 23rd of last year that absolutely SMOKES! Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you a copy. Fantastic quality too.

SER!  Thanks for the link.  That looks real nice.

I was so pissed about that LTE tour, as I found out about the tour (which was only a week long) the day after tickets went on sale and of course, they were sold out already.  But I see that show you mentioned is still active on Dime.  I was hoping they'd release a DVD from the tour, but I guess not.

gah

Watched Walnut Creek again last night, for the third or fourth time, really enjoy the Stash. Has got me itching for the Clifford Ball dvds.

Did Dave McKean design the cover of that DVD?

Apparently, yes.  Although I don't know who he is.  I'm guessing the same guy who did the thirt3en ghosts movie poster?

fauxpaxfauxreal

Dave McKean is the cover illustrator for most of Neil Gaiman's works.

He designed all of the comic book covers for "The Sandman".

He's kind of revolutionary, because he was the first cover artist who did not feature the comics "hero" prominately on all of his covers...

mopper_smurf

Dave McKean did the artwork for the John Cale Circus live CD box-set. Love the design for 3LP gatefold sleeve.

He explains the design right here:

http://clients.onyro.com/emi/cale/

He did the design for the Cale autobiography "What's Welsh for Zen" too.
