tough choice.
SOAM. Absolutely not a jam for the whale. Shred it, dissect it, split it open, melt it, and put it back together. SOAM.
Melt.
Not a good song in 3.0. :shakehead:

THIS.
shit. im listneing to MPP2 and realize that i should throw ghost in the mix :-o
Split, 2010 versions have been pretty much unlistenable.
Runner up: Piper.
i voted piper. not necessarily for the whale, which is abundant, but because it sucks all together in 3.0.
Tough to argue with Melt.
But I'll say Reba.

Both of these have been quite bad.
Hood could be on this list as well
i'm thinking Bowie.
Voted for Melt as well
I voted other judging by the Bowies on this run.

...the possibilities are endless!!!
This could end up being the best(or worst) execution style EVAR!!!!
You shall be sentenced to "death by Whale Call" :-o

I think that would be deemed a 'cruel and unusual punishment'.
A hard call.
I almost voted for Gin even though it has seen some (relatively) strong versions this go-'round, but considering what a monstrous and consistent jam vehicle it was for years, its comparative impotence has nevertheless been something of a personal disappointment for me.
I agree that Reba or Hood might be the top contenders for this "prize"...
this was easy. soam. what he has done to that is a damn shame.
You guys are COMPLETELY MAD.
I honestly think the whale call works better in SOAM jams than anything else. Don't get me wrong, I wish SOAM jams could be what they used to be, but I am not opposed to the direction they are trying to take it. I get it. Can't say they have completely nailed one yet in 3.0, but I really liked both the Red Rocks and Camden version from this year.
Falling apart, chaotic, disastrous, wild, mind bending, "is this even music?" sort of feel. I dig it. Tension, tension, teeennssiiiooon.....release?....nope.... moooorreee...teeeennssiiioooonnnnn......
Rebas and Hoods suffer most. Whales do NOT belong in those jams....

I don't know that I can argue differently.
I might have had more fun at 1-2 shows this summer, but the Gorge was really something else....

You picked the right one to show up for Slim, that's for sure.
soam
Okay, so I'm grossly outnumbered here.
Do y'all hate the whale call in SOAM because you don't like that style of jamming (falling apart, dissonance)
or because it has taken place of, what used to be, a great jam vehicle that could go anywhere?
Let me guess, both? :-D

Honestly if Bowie had been included I might have chosen it since the last two versions left such a terrible taste in my mouth.
But Split is all about tension and release and all out sonic insanity, the whale call brings neither of those qualities.

Reba has been hurt the most, I think. Along with Weekapaug, which has fortunately been coming back. Piper has been the most up and down, i'd say, though; by the end of Summer '09, they were heating that up real well. And then it died until F8, which is fucking SICK, and then it died again until MPP. Most bi-polar jam song.
Hood seems to not be able to break out of its slump either. I'm wishing we could get a 7/31/03 again... that shit fucking kills it real nice and good-like. Hate on PH, but that Hood owns.
Regardless of the whale, I want my whammy loop back.
