I've been making my way through fall 96 tour and it's been incredible.
I know that most say 96 pales in comparison to 95 or 97 but the late Fall 96 shows (Halloween on particularly) are a force to be reckoned with.

This week, I've listened to these heaters...

still making my way thru fall 97.  Figure i might give my thoughts as a whole when i finish, but wanted to mention this 12-9 show today.

Pretty weird show for sure on the heels of Dayton.
NOtably a spacey Simple jam> what seems like Bowie for sure but then railroaded into Timber which was a back to back repeat from Dayton.
What actually stuck out the most to me though was the Contact breakdown. Maybe one of the funkiest i've heard. i could listen to that shit on loop, Page tears it down.
.really nice Hood (w/axilla tease) too.

finished ROchester.
on paper this 2nd set might be one of my favs of the tour.
drowned>roses r free (1st)>BBFCM> Ghost> dwd reprise>JGB  -E. Waste.

really strong playing from page/mike as with alot of the 2nd half of the tour.
the drowned>roses>bbfcm is very seemless and just a fantastic pairing.
i love the the ghost pick in the slot to round things out but the jam definitely was missing some uumph and Trey really seemed to wrap the set up as soon as possible.
which led to a contrasting sweet and slow encore sendoff.

On to the last venue of tour finally!

The Jimi Hendrix Experience

18 Feb. 1969  Royal Albert Hall, London

1.     Tax Free
2.     Fire
3.     Hear My Train A Comin'
4.     Foxy Lady
5.     Red House
6.     Sunshine of Your Love
7.     Spanish Castle Magic-Message to Love
8.     Star Spangled Banner
9.     Purple Haze
10.    Voodoo Child (Slight Return)

1-10   (AU, 89:57, 5.5/10 [G/G+]) (T, master clone)
1-10   (SBD)

Awesome show! SCM in particular points Jimi's music into new directions. Besides the Message to Love, he quotes what sounds like embryonic runs of Earth Blues a couple of times in the jam. As noted by others, he also teases Pass it On/Straight Ahead in the intro of Voodoo Child.

PAN AMERICAN CENTER
Las Cruces, NM

Soundcheck: Dickie Scotland Song, Dirt (several times)

SET 1: Also Sprach Zarathustra > Chalk Dust Torture, Guelah Papyrus, Axilla, My Mind's Got a Mind of its Own, Beauty of My Dreams, Bathtub Gin, Mozambique, Sand, Waste

SET 2: Gotta Jibboo, Ghost > Taste, Brian and Robert, Mike's Song > Simple > Train Song, Weekapaug Groove

ENCORE: La Grange

Ghost contained a Sand tease from Mike and Weekapaug contained a 2001 tease from Trey. The soundcheck featured the impromptu Dickie Scotland Song in reference to Phish Tour Manager Richard "Dickie Scotland" Glasgow, who attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. The song included a theme about the school's mascot, the Aggie, referenced fellow NMSU alumnus David "ZZYZX" Steinberg (a.k.a. The Timer) with the lyric "Timer is an Aggie, too," contained Hava Nagila and Money quotes from Trey and ended with a How Many More Times tease from Trey and Mike. This debut performance was included in Kevin Shapiro's "From the Archives" radio show at Big Cypress.

I completely forgot about this show. Non-stop heat.
