Title: MLB 2017

Been up early the past two days to watch WBC games from Asia.  Tons of fun.

I've been doing the same.  having work done at the house this morning so I am able to stay home a little later to watch this Cuba vs. Japan game.
I've been dying for real baseball much sooner than normal this year.

So it's safe to say you're fans of the baseball classic?

I honestly haven't made up my mind yet, but I know I'd have a big problem with my franchise player getting hurt in a bunch of games that mean absolutely nothing.

Guys get hurt in Spring Training too. WBC is a better as an idea than its execution but still fun to watch International "best-on-best"

there are pitch counts for pitchers.
it gets players to get more focused for playing games right now and ideally make them more ready for the first week of April.
it can also open up a chance for a younger player to get more Spring Training action with your team if the normal position player is off playing for Team USA or whatever team.  more games = more people playing.

injuries are a concern but as a fan, these are enjoyable games to watch.  it's just extra baseball for me to watch.  I'll never complain about that.

Watching the US vs DR game last night was a prime example of what the WBC is great. You won't see a game That intense until October.  Going to be an interesting day today to see who advances (or who gets a play in) to advance to San Diego.

I watched last night until Stroman left the game, weird but fun to watch one of your "big game" guys wearing a different uniform and pitching like it's the playoffs in March.

I'll admit I got into the WBC at the end.....but now it's back to reality. Yes, I was rooting for Stroman last night, but now he's dead to me.  :-D

And now I will be rooting for Chris Sale. Can't wait for opening day!

I love Opening Day no matter what, but beating a division rival in extra innings makes it really sweet.

Sorry, Matt.

Fun game, Jays had some chances against the tough O's bullpen.  Too bad the Jays couldn't get it to Ubaldo in the 11th.

The schedule has let the O's manipulate their roster so they had a slight advantage in a long game like that... Estrada was dealing late in the game - struck out 5 out of 6 at one point.

All that said, I'd rather win in extras in the WC game than on Opening Day :)

Lol, knew that was coming. And you'd be 100% correct. It still stings.

If you'll allow a brief MiLB post here, I'd just like to say I was sitting behind the plate last night when Tim Tebow went yard in his first at bat.

Praise be.

Matt,

Do you know anything about this Miguel Castro kid?  Apparently he was a piece of the Tulowitzki trade from the Jays.  22 years old and can throw 97. We got him for a bag of balls. Guess it's worth a shot.

He was the Jays closer for a week to start the season a couple years ago.

I'd be surprised if he pans out for the O's but baseball is weird.

What the freak is going on with the Jays this year? Yes, walk off last night, but you're in the middle of the worst start in franchise history. 3 errors today in an ugly game so far.  This is not the Jays team that i know and....strongly dislike, but obviously respect the hell out of......

meh, it's 12 games.  If this happened in July nobody would notice.  Don't even look at team records or standings until end of May.

I get it, it's April. Still, you have to be a little concerned. Especially with Donaldson and Sanchez on the DL and Happ likely headed there too.

Every team has their issues though. We've got Britton, Tillman, and Rickard on the DL as well.

Watched the Rockies sweep the Giants this weekend.

Went to the game Saturday & Sunday. Haven't seen this franchise play so well since moving to Denver almost 4 years ago.

Taking on the Nationals this week at home.

Sale promptly throws a heater behind Machado, who was not happy (http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/news/manny-machado-cusses-out-red-sox-chris-sale-pitch-video-adam-jones-slur/4c4v2w71l8mr1w2zpaygggrqf).

I've acknowledged Manny's bouts with punkishness over the years, but this is getting stupid. His slide on Pedroia looked routine to everyone without a New England address, Pedroia has long since returned to the field, and they're still throwing 100-mph missiles at Manny's knees, head and everywhere else. I'd feel about the same way Manny is feeling if I were him.

Does anyone want to win the AL East this year? The Orioles just set the AL record for most consecutive games giving up 5+ runs and somehow, despite our pitching woes(putting it mildly), the Orioles sit 4 games out of first place today. IMO, the O's have false hope this year and should be selling at the deadline. Trumbo, Britton and even Machado would all make great trade pieces for someone.

My $.02

Can't trade him in the division and no other teams will pay the premium to get him...

O's are surprisingly good for such a shitty team.

This kid has been great for us this year. They're talking about making him a starter. He threw 70+ pitches yesterday.....we'll see.

Whatever, it's not like Manfred is going to do anything about it.

Naturally, I would throw in the towel after regulation last night only to have the game end in characteristic fashion very shortly thereafter.

It's been a fun series. My Houstonian wife is pretty excited.

Shit is on way too late. It makes no sense.

Throw first pitch at 7EST, even earlier on the weekend.

Imagine the ratings if the late innings were on in prime time.
