As many of you know, RatDog's sterling lead guitarist, Mark Karan, is experiencing a health problem. Said Chief Dog Bob Weir, "The docs want to have a close look at our brother Mark over the next few weeks, and we're gonna have to go with that. Our old friend Steve Kimock has graciously offered to cover for him for this tour, and so we're thinking we should go with this. We'll be in touch with Mark daily, and if his docs cut him loose, we'll bring him out. The show must go on, I think, in everyone's best interest. Here's to Healing..."
Steve chipped in. "First, I'd like to wish Mark a speedy recovery, and secondly, I'd like to thank Bob Weir & RatDog for this opportunity to serve our music, family, friends and community during Mark's absence. Love is a service done. Gratefully, SK."
Finally, we checked in with Mark. "I really appreciate all the love and good vibes I've received since announcing my need to take a 'healing break.' I'll be very sorry to miss all these great summer shows this July, but I'll be back ASAP and I'm sure my ol' TOO-mate Senor Kimock will do his best to add something special to this run. Keep me in your prayers, and meantime... Hey, hey come right away, come and join the party everyday."
Hmm, good thinking. See you down the road, Milwaukee first. RatDog tour dates available HERE.

KARAN TAKES MEDICAL BREAK FROM RATDOG
From www.markkaran.com:
A Message from MK
Mark Karan - RatDog by Weiand
Hey there groovy guys and groovy gals... It's yr ol' pal MK here with some less than stellar news. I will not be joining the boys [RatDog] on this July run thru the good ol' USofA...
My MDs have decided that a lump I've had on my neck for quite some time may in fact be a bigger problem than they originally thought. They can't say it's cancer but they can't say it isn't either (all tests are negative so far but they are still quite concerned).
Meanwhile, I have several wonderful healers that believe they can help me a lot with focused attention and hard work... So that's what I'll be doing for the next month. If all goes well... All good. Otherwise it's western style surgery and we'll have to wait and see where the dust settles.
So get on out to the shows. They'll be different and I'm sure they'll be fun. If at all possible I plan on joining the boyz for a rockin' good time on the August run.
Much love to alla you boneheads!!!
Mark Karan
:| Hope he gets better. I am sorry I won't be able to see him at ALL GOOD this year, but Kimock sure makes a very nice substitute!
Mr. Karan needs to wake up and ditch the holistic voodoo healers and get with the same western style action that has saved Phil Lesh's life a couple times now.
As for Kimock being with Ratdog, good for Ratdog. Steve needs to start a new steady band, though.

Hmm, I am curious now. I wonder how different their sound will be?
EDIT: I know kimock is well versed in the dead catalogue, so it shouldn't affect it that much, right?
It will be different but in a subtler way than most 'lead guitar player' swaps.
Kimock & Karan are very different players. Plus Karan knows Ratdog.
So I'm def going to see Weir + kimock on the 7th of July now. Add in keller too and its a keeper in my book.

should be fun.
esp. if we can hi tthe casino before...
shit, i might just skip keller if the action is good!
Slim Slim SLim you lucky guy, Seeing Ratdog is too fun. I got too make food For Bobby and the Whole band back in 2002. I met Bobby for like a quick second before the show, just enough time to shake his hand and he said....."The food was good"
Saw ratdog last night at the Tower City Amphitheatre in Cleveland last night
set I: Jam > The Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion > Jack Straw > Easy to Slip > Supplication > Easy to Slip > Lazy River Road > Big Railroad Blues
set II: K.C. Moan, Friend of the Devil, Victim or the Crime@ > Even So > October Queen > The Deep End > West L.A. Fadeaway > Stuff, Wharf Rat > GDTRFB
E: Gloria
West La > Stuff with Keller and then Stuff was without Keller and Bobby
Highlights:Easy to slip > supplication > easy to slip, and the West La > Stuff, Warf Rat
Kimock was a great replacement, they just need more time improving their timing
nice.
maybe i just don't know ratdog setlists at all, but that seems like maybe more straight dead material than usual, right? because of kimock being there?... hope the show i see has a setlist like that.
of course the last time i went to this venue the band i saw seemed somewhat uninspired by the backdrop of a casino hotel/restaurant.
