Ha.  Back when I was trying to get my younger bro into teh  :phish: I made him a mix tape exactly like this because he liked the album.  I thought it would be a good way for him to make the transition to the live stuff because he was already familiar with the tunes.  Worked like champ!

Here are a couple of great versions of Playing In the Band.  The first comes from 18Nov.1972, a 25 minute opus and Dick Latvala favorite that shows the  :syf: at their Fall '72 improvisational best:

Been listening to  :syf: Nov. 1972 this week and this interesting version of Playing from 12Nov. really caught my ear.  First, the mix is different in that Jerry is mixed to the right side w/ Weir on the left where typically just the opposite is common, at least in my listening experience.  Also the jamming is great, you can really hear both players crystal sharp.  So many good versions of Playing abound but this one, while maybe not as great as 18Nov. certainly deserves a listen ot two:

solid pick..very experimental and improv..alot of different changes in tempo..sweet transition back into it at just past the 20 minute mark..they also followed this show the very next night at the same venue w/ another playin..not my fav but def like the different places the boys take this one..too bad the vocals on this rec are crap cuz the playin is fantastic!

I'll check out the next nights version as well.  This tune in particular truly reached zenith levels that tour w/ nearly every version recommended.

Keep up the good work, Susep... thanks for the DLs!
