anyone here use twitter? i just joined, and i'm still trying to wrap my head around why i would use this... and trying to see who else uses it and why.
i'm not sure i understand the gist of it... am i supposed to update it by the minute or by the hour or by the day? why would i follow some of the things that are on twitter... IE, i am following a mac website (tuaw) and it now dominates my list since they add every post on their site as a tweet... why wouldn't i just use the RSS that i already have to follow what they are posting?
any insight or advice is appreciated.
Never used it, never saw the need.
As I understand it, it would be useful for a live-blogging sort of thing. Maybe live setlists?
yeah, it seems to be to duplicate what i already do on facebook. but on a way more limited scale... basically it seems like its simply a status updater
And you can link it, I think, to update your facebook status when you post on twitter.
why though? seems redundant to me. i'd have to assume that almost everyone on twitter is also on facebook. i'm still trying to understand this whole thing

I suppose it's a way for people who aren't necessarily your "friends" to follow what you are doing.
I'm supposed to do it to help promote my company, but I don't.

I think Hicks is close to the point there but beyond that, I wouldn't know.
ok, but WHY would i want people that are not my friends to follow me?

Guerilla marketing, brah. It's so hetty.
I'm giving this a shot, feel free to follow me so I don't feel like I'm completely wasting my time and post your page here if you want so I can follow you.

Hicks found me!
heh, not too difficult considering only 26 people follow me. :|
How do you like it so far lope? I set up an account a couple of months ago but rarely login. In fact, I forgot all about it until Hicks mentioned it in a PM. It's decent for updates but overall... meh.
Edit: Found you lope.
Yeah, it's ok. I don't see myself using it more than facebook or other social networking programs. But I am sure it can be useful in certain situations.
I love how I get followers and never have sent out a single tweet. I only signed up so I could get txt updates from Phish on 3/6/09.
I had some guy sign up to follow me yesterday and when I went to his profile his only tweet was a pr0n link. Blocked user.
Never understood it. I use the facebook to talk to buds that have moved away but still can't get into this "anti-social" networking. But i did here one thing about twitter that i found amusing, I heard Puff Daddy's twitter name was "P Twitty"
Twitter #music is supposed to be released today. Seems like it could be really cool.

Crowd sourced music recommendations?
Have you seen who is in crowds?

I see Dave Matthews Bands stickers around here.
It's amazing how people can delude themselves.
Even more amazing when they do it under the pretense of opening their eyes.

Exactly!
Honestly, I get most/all of my new music recommendations here from you guys, but felt this was worth mentioning.

Sure.
It's also worth noting that the app is basically useless if you don't subscribe to rdio or spotify. Spotify requires a paid account, too.
Once again, the fact that I own my music rather than stream it make this thing not so useful for me.
I signed up for twitter a few months ago. I now have 18 followers, despite having never tweeted anything yet. 7 of my followers I actually know in real life, the other 11 I don't... as with rowjimmy, I don't see myself ever really using Twitter #music for "Crowd sourced music recommendations".
a few times I have almost tweeted something. but then I didn't because I thought "that would be a lame first tweet".
I made a Twitter account a little over a year ago, and I've probably tweeted 3 times, and that was withing a few days after making the account. Haven't touched it since. Don't really understand it. I get my social media fix from FB...
Isn't Twitter pretty much just a place to post a status, like on FB?
No.
It's something a bit different.

Ah. I figured there was more to it. I just never took the time/cared to figure out how. I'm sure if I gave it a shot, I would get into it and use it just as regularly as I use FB.
Twitter > Mombook
I just keep forgetting to use it but I see it's value. between being the ultimate live news feed it's a great way to communicate with your bros
Twitter is pretty much the only place I go to cheat on the paug.
