I think Conan described it best.  "The NBA lockout is finally over, ladies and gentlemen!  Now the nation can go back to not giving a crap about basketball until the finals!"

I like basketball. ACC tournament starts tomorrow. It's a more high-brow version of march madness (fewer one-and-done players, players that actually attend class, etc.).

Yeah that too, I haven't seen many games because we axed the cable and I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

We should probably be giving Andre Miller's agent a call right about now.

KD makes a strong argument but honestly LeBron is on another level than anyone else in the league over the course of the season. The numbers alone are MVP-worthy, and then you go and actually watch a few games...dude simply doesn't seem human with some of the stuff he's able to do

shit! wow! --what a week for the NBA!

this shortened season is just ridiculous. i cant believe they squeezed in all the games in 2/3 the time.

a bunch of crazy trades happened this week at the deadline. mostly a ton of small moving parts; mostly for teams clearing cap space.
the new CB agreement and short season has a ton of teams in restructuring mode for the rest of the year.

HICKS!!!---Man! they blew the Blazers to bits! unbelievable. i thought they were doing great early in the year, and now the bottom has fallen out. At least they got rid of Oden's contract, along with the Kitchen sink!!

----and best of all, D'antoni got Fired!!  i called it last week, ==thank god they pulled trigger.
3 STRaight Wins including Back to Back vs the #5 in the East PAcers! w00t!! GO KNICKS BABY!!

It sucked to see Nene leave the Nuggets, but as a Wizards fan I couldn't be happier about having him in dc. It's unfortunate the Nugs have to put up with Javale McGee not playing up to even a quarter of his potential but his contract is up at the end of the year, leaving the nugs room to make a splash in free agency. I just hope they keep up the superstar-less thing they've got going. It's exciting to watch an nba team that actually runs an offense instead of waiting for one or two "superstar" players to get open on every possession (which is imo why the knicks have struggled since melo came back into the lineup)

total generalization,, though i understand what you mean.
really it has nothing to do with melo though-- IE the last 3 games they dominated. it was ALL the non meshing of D'antoni's outdated offensive schemes and a bunch of players that didnt fit the spec of what would work in his offense.
THANK GOD HE's GONE.
i don't dislike D'antoni, but he was 100% a horrible fit for the roster we have ATM.
trust me, the rest of the season is going to be a complete 180.

I definitely agree about d'antoni, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the Nuggets went 18-7 the rest of last season after the melo trade (the knicks are hovering right around .500 since the trade iirc). Not to say he can't get it done (because he is a straight up scoring MACHINE) but I question his decisionmaking/clutchness at times.

Nene makes his Wiz debut tonight. I'm pumped about the future of this team. Wall, Nene, and the ownership are all on the same page. Good supporting cast. We need a solid coach (NOT simply a big-name coach) and I think we'll be a force in the east.

I just don't care about the Nuggets anymore without Nene. But at least now I don't have to be ashamed to be a wiz fan.

Edit: Wiz SMACKED the nets. Nene with 22pts 10reb in his wizards debut. Jordan Crawford with 23 points. John Wall with 12 and 8. This team is going places.

^ I've always loved Seattles uni's. I actually almost bought a Shawn Kemp jersey a few weeks ago in Dallas (it was on sale) but decided to just save my $$.

As a kid, I LOVED Kemp, Schrempf, and Payton. my second favorite trio of all time behind Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman.

If we're talking about how awesome the old sonics were, we need to give a shoutout to George Karl for keeping those motherfuckers in line. Dude is a straight boss (beat cancer twice) and doesn't take any bullshit from his players, no matter how poorly they behave (remember the kind of production he got out of JR Smith and Kenyon Martin the past few years?)

twas a great game.

ton of intense games coming down the stretch of this insane season.

such a shame my knicks lost 2 of our starters just when everything came together perfectly with the D'Antoni firing.

...still, they are playing absolutely great overall and i'm happy.

as things stand today its really looking like the playoffs will come down to the 2 current best teams in the west and the 2 best teams in the east.
Barring any major injuries--which is very possible-- OKC vs. Spurs for the West, and Miami vs. da Bulls for the East.

there's a couple wildcards still out there like the Celts which are playing PHenominal since the break... and really the SPurs are currently playing sick ball, and are even close to knockin OKC outta the top spot.

Such a crazy season, but Very intriguing.

I hope all the B-Ball fans caught the Knicks-Bulls game yesterday.
EPIC!!!!!!!!

really a fantastic game.
D. Rose's return from injury...first time all year the Bulls had their full starting lineup...Knicks still missing 2 starters to injury, but playing unbelievable since Woodson took over coach.

the Knicks jumped out to a 21 pt. lead in the 1st quarter!-- bulls grinded back with d.Rose getting his groove back in the 2nd half, but MELO drops 43 pts with 2 CLUTCH 3 pointers at the end of regulation and OT to catapult the Knicks to a 100-99 win.

Best game of Melo's time with the Knicks. He actually said post game it was one of the best games of his career.

I am sooo happy with my Knicks after all the ups and downs of the this season. with Lin and Stoudamire both out now we arent really looking at much hope in the playoffs, but i really am proud of how they have come together since Woodson took over.
Vangundy even commentated yesterday that they are playing the best team defense in the league right now, and i have to agree.

If we're lucky we will see this same group back next year with a vengeance, unless the Knicks management F's it up in the off season, which is always possible.
Woodson would be great to be the full time coach, and if the majority of the lineup can stay together we really have something for once that has a future.

Back to back with the Bulls--rematch 2moro in Chi-town, OH BOY!!

Tough losses last few weeks but still clinched NW division (to no surprise).  I don't think the Spurs will catch us for the #1 spot in the West but we never know.  Last two years we have seen improvement in our franchise but not enough.  This will be our year.  Thunder up!

Well today I got offered some free playoff tickets only to find out 2 hours before game time I was no longer getting them.  I immediately got on craigslist and called a guy with 2 tickets for $120(for the pair).  One of my best friends Hudson and I drove downtown,  picked them up, and pulled in about 10 minutes before game time.  We were kind of sketched out since they were paper tickets but the guy seemed alright and gave us the receipt as well.  As we were walking in I looked over and the guy we got the tickets off of was standing in line next to us!  This settled our nerves a bit and we ended up not having a problem at all.   Snagged a few bourbon and waters then wandered up to our seats.  Ended up being seats on the end of the isle  behind our team's bench up towards the top of the arena.  What was about to happen ended up being one of, if not the, best sporting event I've ever been apart of.  Phillip Bailey(Earth, Wind, & Fire) sang the National Anthem and then immediately the lights fell.   The pre-game video and team introductions brought chills to everyone inside that arena.  It was a moment that made me proud as ever to be a born and raised Oklahoman.

That first quarter of basketball set the tone for what was going to be a physical basketball game.  The Perkins/Dirk altercation with ~5 minutes left in the first quarter got both teams fired up.  What really pissed the crowd off was the loose ball foul that wasn't overturned after a referee review and a DOUBLE TECHINICAL!  WTF is this!?   This resulted in a crowd wide chant of "Dirk Sucks" for a few minutes until KD was fouled, it was fucking hilarious...KD approaches the line to nothing but "M. V. P. !!!!" being chanted in unison by every white shirt wearing person in the building.

Ran outside during half time to the car, smoked a bowl, and chugged a beer.  Those first few minutes into the second half we just got slammed with fouls putting Collison in huge foul trouble with 5 early in the 3rd.  Coach Brooks didn't let go though and kept playing our big men, even facing foul trouble early in the half.  Brooks and Carlisle were both so fired up, it was great.  The refs were struggling with keeping the two coaches off each other as they were with Perkins and Dirk in the second half.  (The two coaches used to be roommates years back in their Continental Basketball Association days).

Derek Fisher comes off the bench to shoot 5-6, bringing in 8 of his 11 points on a 11-0 Thunder run late in the second half.  As much as I hate to say it, we would not have one that game without him tonight.  Fisher only had 11 points but on the extra pass from Harden to set up the 3 pointer put Fisher up on a scoring run that changed the tone for us.  Kevin Durant makes 2 free throws with less than a minute left to put us up ahead.  James Harden hits 2 clutch free throws then Jason Terry misses two 3pt chances within the last 5 seconds to tie it up.  Inbounded to Harden, he's fouled and makes both sealing the win.

It was one of the best sports moments I've ever witnessed personally.  Downtown OKC was getting pelted with rain and thunderstorms when the game was out but people were still going nuts in the streets!  People were running through the streets chanting, the parking garages were echoing with Thunder fans celebrating, and people dancing and singing under the bridges across from the arena.  Cops just stopped traffic and let us all party while cars were driving around in the middle of the street with everyone high-fiving and shaking their fists out of the windows.  It was a damn good night to be an OKC Thunder fan in the middle of downtown.

 :beers:

I forgot to tell you one of the best parts.  I have a cumulative final at 9 A.M. tomorrow morning and haven't even cracked a book to start studying.  Dropped $60 on a ticket then went and slammed makers mark&waters all game instead.  Just took some addy and brewed a cup of coffee after a little  :smoke:, pulling an all nighter in my playoff tee.  Proudly chose that game over studying and sleep.  It's all about priorities.

NBA PLAYOFFS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not exactly, they did get rid of Chandler and Barea in the offseason, both dumb moves.

Yeah, I came back here to say that I didn't even think about the Chandler trade.

I'm sure Cuban is kicking himself, and has been for a while now. Still though, those two guys aren't the sole reason they went from being a championship caliber team to being down 3 games to none in the first round.

eta - actually, I'm not sure they were ever an actual full blown, championship-caliber team.

They had a good run...

I'm a certified James Harden hater, but what Ron Artest did was fucking unacceptable. Confirms everything I've ever thought about him: he's a dimwitted/feeble-minded goon who doesn't belong in pro sports.

Why the hate on James?

Because he's a douchenozzle. I'll be a thunder hater forever because of the sketchy way in which clay bennett used his connections to move the team from seattle. No offense to oklahoma city (i'm sure it's a wonderful place) but fuck clay bennett and the thunder.

LOL

After clawing through the Mavs, Lakers, and Spurs we have beaten the three teams that combine for the last 10 of 13 NBA championships.  I think we match up better against the Celtics than the Heat but I'd love to beat the Heat in the NBA Finals and rub Phil's face in it.   THUNDER UP!

Imagine how the people of Quebec feel...

Montreal Expos get jerked around by MLB then move to Washington where they don't even recognize their retired numbers... Now their retired numbers are honoured by the Montreal Canadiens

Quebec Nordiques move to Colorado then win the Stanley Cup the next year.

I expect this to be a great series. Miami will lose game 1 because they'll be adjusting to OKC (very different style of play than Boston). After that it's a crap-shoot, imo. The Heat in game 7 against Boston showed a side of themselves that we haven't seen before; they didn't just close out that game, they fucking slammed the door in Boston's face.

Either way, the seven game series concept in pro basketball is kind of whack, imo. It's not like baseball where you have a different starting pitcher each night. With basketball the teams are largely the same night-to-night (barring serious injury to a key player), so the only things that change are the gameplans and random chance. It would be awesome if we had normal playoffs instead of this series business (it works in college), but then David $tern wouldn't be able to sell seven games worth of tv ads. I don't want to potentially have to wait through seven games to see who the champion is, I want to know tomorrow night.

too lazy to find out the details.
who did they trade?
i'm assuming gasol or bynum is gone.

regardless, should be interesting to see if Dwight can check his ego enough to play with KObe.
Might be worth a few laughs.
honestly Dwight has pretty much ruined his rep over the last few years in orlando.
can't beleive he acted like such a baby and destroyed that franchise and then bailed.
what a douche.

also, i know hicks is a blazers fan. i was thrilled to hear B ROy was going to try and make a comeback.
too bad he's not allowed to rejoin the same team. maybe he'll make it back there one day.
man, portland def. has some of the worst luck in the nba. shame it has to happen to one of the best franchises.

This is the same woman who stayed with her husband after he raped a hotel maid simply because he bought her a mondo diamond ring. I'd say Los Angeles suits her particularly well. Also, Kobe probably was smart enough to get a pre-nup and Vanessa Bryant doesn't seem like the kind of girl that could handle not being retardedly wealthy. She threw out the possibility of divorce as the proverbial nuclear threat.

http://insidebiz.com/news/sources-sacramento-kings-may-move-virginia-beach-arena-deal-works

The owners of the Sacramento Kings, an NBA franchise, and officials from Philadelphia-based Comcast-Spectacor are expected to be in Virginia Beach Tuesday to propose moving the team to the resort city and for Comcast to help build and lease a new pro sports arena.

A deal between the Maloof family, which owns the Sacramento Kings, and the city of Sacramento for a $391 million entertainment complex fell apart three months ago and it has been reported that the owners are looking for a city for their franchise.

Media giant Comcast will guarantee a 25-year lease on a new arena, supposedly for naming rights and for broadcasting the games, sources said. Comcast owns NBC and Global Spectrum, which operates arenas and stadiums across the country including the Ted Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University.

City officials and the Maloof family are expected to announce Wednesday that the Kings will land in Virginia Beach, sources said.

I'm not a big NBA fan, but very excited about this.  I was talking to my wife about this and we can't quite figure where they would locate the arena.  My gut tells me the ocean front which would suck.  I'm hoping for this big spot about 2 miles from my house.  Its central to the city, near what should be a light rail line, the interstate, etc.

I'm super excited as always for NBA this year!

Some fantastic storylines already in the young season.

- Dwight and Nash head to L.A. and start 0-3.
- Brooklyn sees its first major sports team in over 50 years. Go Nets!
- OKC trades Harden to Houston. He teams up with Jeremy Lin and goes Bonkers his first two games.
- Ray Allen sells out and moves to the Miami machine.
- D. Rose still out with major injury to start the season, along with many other key players around the league. Andrew Bynum in particular after being moved to Philly from the Lakers.

 -- & MY KNICKS!!!
i'm very excited after a great 3-0 start and the opening night win vs. the defending champs.

lol, ser.
Honestly i think LA better figure somethin out real quick.
its cliche to say so, but their "window" for making this lineup work is pretty slim.
i've been watching alot of them since pre-season, and they are far from ready  even with the right coach.

anyway, enough talk about those idiots, lol...

HicKs: so alot of stuff goin on with the Blazers as usual.
it was good to see Roy tryin to come back with the Wolves... wish it could have been the Blazers tho.
also, Lillard looks fantastic, and Batum is really shining. Unfortunately there is alot of pressure being put on ALdridge and he doesnt seem to be off to good start this year.
Still, i like their team as always and maybe they can get something going. we'll see.

lol, every single announcer agreed with Barkley when he said this is currently and is going to be the worst first round in a long, long time.

yeah i saw that.
funny thing is they all changed their tune last night.
and actually if you watch nba tv every night like i do then you would have heard every announcer state what i said for the week leading up to the start of the playoffs.

the point i was trying to convey wasnt that the series will necessarily be highly contested, but that the matchups were perfect.
there is a  distinct difference.
every single matchup has either a history between the teams in recent or past years, or a drastically differing OR similar play style, or a sensational aspect, etc etc.
the teams just seemingly alined perfectly for great drama, albeit  possibly short lived.

the only BIG disappointment so far would be the HUGE loss of David Lee going down in game one of the Warriors-Nuggets series.
though Andre Miller was fantastic and provided some great mojo for at least the Nugs moving forward with their own injuries.

Sadly it is yet another NBA season plagued by major injuries.
I am convinced after the last few years that it is no coincedence that the NBAs present  style of play emphasizing athleticism has played a major role in how bad the big injury bug has become.
ITs a real shame, but even the best conditioned players are just pushing themselves to the limit and really decemating the depth of the league.

anyway... yeah, killer matchups though if youve been keeping up with the entire season and know the teams.
LA- SA check.
LA-Mem- check.
BOs-NY -check.
BK- Chicago- check.
denver- GS -check.

even:
okc- houston is  good matchup, 2 fast teams, Harden storyline, etc. of course okc will win, but the drama is there in spades.
IND- ATL-- both teams MAjorly struggling down the stretch, so which 1 woulds wake up in the 1st rnd? looks like INdy.
& MIA- MIL, about as good of a 1st round matchup as there could be for MIA who's chances of winning it all are +80% i would say.
at least jennings gave us moronic prediction to have fun with and honestly their team matchups up perfectly to beast MIA, they just dont have enough depth to even come close.

oh yeah... on that note--FUCK MIAMI, and goodnight.

GO KNICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this year might have the best 1st round matchups across the board i've ever seen in a playoffs.

lol, every single announcer agreed with Barkley when he said this is currently and is going to be the worst first round in a long, long time.

yeah i saw that.
funny thing is they all changed their tune last night.
and actually if you watch nba tv every night like i do then you would have heard every announcer state what i said for the week leading up to the start of the playoffs.

the point i was trying to convey wasnt that the series will necessarily be highly contested, but that the matchups were perfect.
there is a  distinct difference.
every single matchup has either a history between the teams in recent or past years, or a drastically differing OR similar play style, or a sensational aspect, etc etc.
the teams just seemingly alined perfectly for great drama, albeit  possibly short lived.

the only BIG disappointment so far would be the HUGE loss of David Lee going down in game one of the Warriors-Nuggets series.
though Andre Miller was fantastic and provided some great mojo for at least the Nugs moving forward with their own injuries.

& MIA- MIL, about as good of a 1st round matchup as there could be for MIA who's chances of winning it all are +80% i would say.
at least jennings gave us moronic prediction to have fun with and honestly their team matchups up perfectly to beast MIA, they just dont have enough depth to even come close.

oh yeah... on that note--FUCK MIAMI, and goodnight.

even though I do like stephen curry on the warriors, rootin for the nugs on this series.

was a great series.
so were all the 6 of the series that went at least 6 games.

i really liked both teams... unfortunately the nugs really ran into some problems towards teh end of the season. as a team without an allstar they relied heavily on every piece being there. once GALO went down and faried got hobbled they never really got their mojo back.
on the other hand GS really stepped up when D LEE, their only A star,  got sidelined.

anyway, S CURRY is probably my fav player in teh league outside the Knicks right now. i really hope his ankles can be strengthened in years to come so his career doesnt end too soon. and seeing D Leee step on the court... who knows, if somehow he can play they might be able to carry some momentum over  vs SA.

BK-CHI game 7 tonight and then its on to round 2.

The game Sunday was crazy, can't believe we pulled out the win after playing catch-up all game.  Also, maybe people will stop complaining about Westbrook taking too many shots and not playing the postion as a pure "point guard."  Dude is a monster, top point guards in the league.  This Memphis series is going to be tough... just hoping to make it back to the finals at this point.

2 absolutely RIVETING games last night.
this year is truely heady stuff.

the decimated bulls come off a game 7 win v BK and go into s beach to whoop the heat  without 3 of their starters+ more.
pure heart.
Nate Robinson  :samurai:

the Spurs, like the Heat, came out rusty and were waaaay down to GSW with a super hot Curry ( LOVE HIM)...
up 18 with 4 min left and the inexperienced Warriors completely collapse for the 2nd game in a row.
they pulled it out v the Nugs, but this one slipped away in double OT.

INstant classics.

also:
--bummed my knicks are slumpin ATM,  and in deep v the pacers...

--gonna be another killer "Memphis vs the world series". Grizz are fun to watch if you dig old school ball.

-- i think i'm developing a 'bro crush' on S curry. dude is  so sick.

so ive been getting VERY excited for the upcoming season.
ive been watching a ton of preseason and stuff.

alot of big changes around the league to get excited for.
the EAST especially is shaping up to be super competitive with the HEAT trying to make it to the finals Again.

the Bulls, Pacers, and most notably the Nets are all totally stacked to begin the season.

cant wait for opening night!

We going to get another Heat vs Thunder finals?
Title: Re: !!!NBA!!!

We going to get another Heat vs Thunder finals?
maybe.
Thunder look slightly favored to come out of the West as long as Westbrook comes back strong and they havent lost home court for the playoffs while waiting for him the 1st few months. Don't count out one more run for the Spurs, but they are so dependent on remaining healthy.

I think the potential for the HEAT to NOT come out of  the East is pretty high though.
Everything really comes down to injuries, but hypothetically if every team retained perfect health i would personally pick the Bulls out of the East. Both Indiana and Brooklyn have some serious potential as well, but if the Bulls can stay healthy they are my pick right now.

I'm losing more faith in my automatic bid for the Thunder as well.  We let Kevin Martin go in free agency this year and are battling a salary cap issue.  That's one shooter down and not much space freed towards our salary cap.  I just hope our management isn't doing what the Dallas Cowboys do.. Let a bunch of oil wildcatters run a sports team and you stop winning playoff games pretty quick.

wow, Westbrook back already?! :-o
good news for the Thunder.

been digging the healthy T Wolves this year so far... K Love is such a beast.
theyre murdering my Knicks right now.
we gave up 40+ in the 1st quarter. :frustrated:

Knicks are strugling pretty bad to start the season.
the JR smith 5 game suspension isnt helping, but really its all the new additions.
im not sold on Bargnarnini or Artest living up to any expectations yet. time will tell.
TBH they have a pretty nice lineup if they can get everyone playing well.

Just like last year my main gripe with the Knicks still comes down to Felton though. i like the guy but i think we need a better starting PG to get anywhere in the playoffs.

Leave him out to heal... Another two weeks of him resting is a lot more beneficial than the 6-7 games we better our chance at winning by putting him in.

trade deadline in 3 minutes.
no "major" moves really.
been a crazy half of a season though, and one i've really enjoyed.
besides the whole west-east disparity and yet another key player -injury riddled season, the one thing that stands out the most for me has been the emergence of the 'next-gen' of superstars and the passing of the old guard that we've been working towards the last few years.

oh, and BTW the biggest trade of the day came down late yesterday.
Granger moved to Philly for Evan Turner and... dam i forgot his name, lol.
anyway, HUGE implications outta this one.
Larry BIrd is going for miami's jugular.
i mostly agree with the Chucksters comments last night that this along with taking Bynum off the market last month have solidified INDY coming out of the east.
turner, philly's leading scorer... such a great pickup.

up 30 points on a good Memphis team tonight.
M Thorton pickup from SAC showing major dividends.

even without Lopez i feel Brooklyn will make it to the 2nd round if they can stay healthy.
if Brook hadnt gone down for the season i would have them as high as 2 or 3 in the east.

last week and the west is still crazytown from 3-9.
seriously awesome season.

--hope you okc guys saw them whoop up on LC last night. that was a good showing.
thunder are looking a bit better than a few weeks ago.
i still probably have SA coming out of the west, but IDK cause they do have trouble with OKC and some of the other 'younger' teams.

so much is going to be dependent on matchups this year.
i actually think a team like Brooklyn could take out MIA or INDY, but unfortunately they are getting CHI or TOR in the 1st round which is a bad matchup for them.

really though i just hope MIA and IND keep playing aas bad as they have this last month, lol.
theyve both been pitiful and that makes me  :-D

Lol Indy sat their starters last game to "rest".  Bench won the game.

Seems like when the highschool team gets caught drinkin' and has to sit out as punishment.  Only the Pacers starters got caught sucking ass.

...watching indy- heat.
heat open 3rd quarter on 16-0 run.

man, ive watched indy alot this year and its insane how fucked up theyve been since teh Granger trade.
who knows what triggered the change since the starters didnt change and they're the ones sucking, but im guessing maybe some of them werent happy about Granger leaving and somehow it messed up the lockerroom chemistry.
hibbert so struggling after a great first half of the year, and George fell off too.
they're in serious trouble heading to the playoffs, and its looking like they are gonna lose the #1 seed after tonight.
serious collapse, but they still have a week... but wow has teh last month been a disaster.

as for the rest of the East behind MIA and IND-- all 3 teams: TOR, CHI, and BKN have been really gaining steam.
should end up being a really good playoffs for the East despite the horrible first half of the season for most of the teams.

all in all this last week is really exciting with multiple teams going down to the last game for positioning.
the 7-9 race in the west is awesome.
i really hope PHX makes it. theyve been incredible.

are u talking about okc?

they actually have been looking a bit stronger the last week, but yeah with the way the west is set up its pretty dangerous for almost any team.
ibaka really is 'surging' tho. hes expanded his game and really is taken up some of the westbrook recovery slack.
they just dont seem at full strength tho i agree with the naggin injuries and lineup changes.
still... every team out west seems to have some sort of weakness right now that means things are going to come down to matchups and random factors like how healthy certain people are or how tight the rotations with the benches are going to be.

its definitely not going to be easy to predict anything this year, esp in the west but also in the east.
so much in flux coming down teh stretch, but OKC has stabilized a bit id say...
if they get the MAvs in the first round id say they're gonna be ok.
not 100% sure about the rankings yet, but i think thats who theyll play

cant wait for next week. been the one thing i really have been trying to keep out of the hospital for, lol

Wow! Now I know why I don't watch the NBA anymore.  I watched half of the first quarter of the Celtics and Sixers.  In that span I saw 2 missed dunks, a 5 second violation, and Boston was 3 for 9 from the free throw line. Granted both of these teams blow but still.....

NBA action - it sucks ass!

Update 5 minutes later- airball from 3 and the guy was wide open.

Correct, we've played very little since the all star break with a full line up.  Sefolosha is the man who doesn't give enough credit.  I think we're like 17-2 with him on the court.  I think we can crush the Spurs in a 7 game series and probably the Mavs too.... It's the California teams I'm worried about.

You picked a helluva game to rekindle the interest.  Both teams have been in tanking mode all season.  Philly is historically bad this year, and the Celtics are losing at least one season ticket holder as of tomorrow night.

yeah. seriously. that game consisted to 2 teams having 2 of their worst seasons in 50 years and at the end of the season.
there shouldnt have been anything 'good' coming from that game except the fact that it meant they were both 1 game closer to ending their nightmare seasons. plus both are most likely trying to lose on purpose b/c of the good draft class coming this year.

this years nba has actually  been the most exciting and incredibly intense, skilled peaks of many teams and players from the last decade.

try watching a real game with the teams that are actually competing this year and then say you hate the nba...  if you still do then you really  just dont appreciate good  basketball or you have some unrelated to b ball discriminatory issues.
either way, your loss.

I'm just a bit unclear on the whole "forcing someone to sell something they own" part of this.  I am not, by any means condoning what he said, but his all-out bigotry and manipulation of people is not news.  Stern should have addressed this years ago instead of letting it fester...

Paul, it hasn't been determined whether they will or can force him to sell the team.  he is now banned from all operations of the team and supposedly his wife is taking over at this time (that will be interesting since he is not her favorite person either).
they will be looking into a movement by the NBA Board of Directors to force him to sell the team, but there is no clear answer of whether that can be done.  I am sure no one even knows what is in those documents.

seems comparable to when Big George was banned by MLB in the 90s (or was it the 80s?).  he wa slater reinstated and that will not happen in this case.

I'm guessing Adam Silver, in his first major press conference, would mention that he is working with the Board of Governors to force a sale, if he didn't think it was possible.  Also, Wojnarowski is indicating it is supported.

right, working with BoD to force a sale and imposing it are different as of now.
he may or may not put up more of a legal battle if that was actually imposed.
I don't want it to seem like I am defending him because I am not.  I would just expect more of a legal battle if he was ordered to sell the team, which is partially what your original point was about.
it is going to turn into an ethical/moral issue vs. a legal issue.  I have no idea what the NBA documents say but I am sure his highly paid legal team will argue they say something different.

It really won't screw up his fortune. He bought the team for 12 million dollars in '81 or '82. Spent very little on running it until just recently. If sold it will be worth upwards 800 million. Not a bad payday. He'll be dead soon anyway. He's 80.

Lame.

LeBron going back to Cleveland. Huh.

http://www.si.com/nba/2014/07/11/lebron-james-cleveland-cavaliers

Quote
LeBron: I'm coming back to Cleveland

Before anyone ever cared where I would play basketball, I was a kid from Northeast Ohio. Itís where I walked. Itís where I ran. Itís where I cried. Itís where I bled. It holds a special place in my heart. People there have seen me grow up. I sometimes feel like Iím their son. Their passion can be overwhelming. But it drives me. I want to give them hope when I can. I want to inspire them when I can. My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didnít realize that four years ago. I do now.

Remember when I was sitting up there at the Boys & Girls Club in 2010? I was thinking, This is really tough. I could feel it. I was leaving something I had spent a long time creating. If I had to do it all over again, Iíd obviously do things differently, but Iíd still have left. Miami, for me, has been almost like college for other kids. These past four years helped raise me into who I am. I became a better player and a better man. I learned from a franchise that had been where I wanted to go. I will always think of Miami as my second home. Without the experiences I had there, I wouldnít be able to do what Iím doing today.

I went to Miami because of D-Wade and CB. We made sacrifices to keep UD. I loved becoming a big bro to Rio. I believed we could do something magical if we came together. And thatís exactly what we did! The hardest thing to leave is what I built with those guys. Iíve talked to some of them and will talk to others. Nothing will ever change what we accomplished. We are brothers for life.  I also want to thank Micky Arison and Pat Riley for giving me an amazing four years.

Iím doing this essay because I want an opportunity to explain myself uninterrupted. I donít want anyone thinking: He and Erik Spoelstra didnít get along. Ö He and Riles didnít get along. Ö The Heat couldnít put the right team together. Thatís absolutely not true.

Iím not having a press conference or a party. After this, itís time to get to work.

When I left Cleveland, I was on a mission. I was seeking championships, and we won two. But Miami already knew that feeling. Our city hasnít had that feeling in a long, long, long time. My goal is still to win as many titles as possible, no question. But whatís most important for me is bringing one trophy back to Northeast Ohio.

I always believed that Iíd return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I just didnít know when. After the season, free agency wasnít even a thought. But I have two boys and my wife, Savannah, is pregnant with a girl. I started thinking about what it would be like to raise my family in my hometown. I looked at other teams, but I wasnít going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland. The more time passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me happy.

To make the move I needed the support of my wife and my mom, who can be very tough. The letter from Dan Gilbert, the booing of the Cleveland fans, the jerseys being burned -- seeing all that was hard for them. My emotions were more mixed. It was easy to say, ďOK, I donít want to deal with these people ever again.Ē But then you think about the other side. What if I were a kid who looked up to an athlete, and that athlete made me want to do better in my own life, and then he left? How would I react? Iíve met with Dan, face-to-face, man-to-man. Weíve talked it out. Everybody makes mistakes. Iíve made mistakes as well. Who am I to hold a grudge?

Iím not promising a championship. I know how hard that is to deliver. Weíre not ready right now. No way. Of course, I want to win next year, but Iím realistic. It will be a long process, much longer than it was in 2010. My patience will get tested. I know that. Iím going into a situation with a young team and a new coach. I will be the old head. But I get a thrill out of bringing a group together and helping them reach a place they didnít know they could go. I see myself as a mentor now and Iím excited to lead some of these talented young guys. I think I can help Kyrie Irving become one of the best point guards in our league. I think I can help elevate Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters. And I canít wait to reunite with Anderson Varejao, one of my favorite teammates.

But this is not about the roster or the organization. I feel my calling here goes above basketball. I have a responsibility to lead, in more ways than one, and I take that very seriously. My presence can make a difference in Miami, but I think it can mean more where Iím from. I want kids in Northeast Ohio, like the hundreds of Akron third-graders I sponsor through my foundation, to realize that thereís no better place to grow up. Maybe some of them will come home after college and start a family or open a business. That would make me smile. Our community, which has struggled so much, needs all the talent it can get.

In Northeast Ohio, nothing is given. Everything is earned. You work for what you have.

Iím ready to accept the challenge. Iím coming home.

so, i get most of the OKC games own FSN, along with Minnesota, lol, and i caught some of  the last 2 games since the trade.
--WOW.

if they can be healthy for the playoffs they have created a serious monster of a team with these trades.
Its funny too, because just a week ago i agreed with most of the analysts that they had some major holes in their lineup.

Kanter is bursting at the seams the last 2 nites.  he's almost giddy with the energy of being on real team.
his addition to IBaka changes everything down low for them on both sides of the ball.
singler gives okc a perfect spot up shooter, and I LOVE DJ augistine. he's one of my top back up PGs for sure over the last few seasons.

But, what really is amazing is the level Westbrook is playing at.
He's hands down my MVP up to this point (despite OKcs record, which gets better every day.
Curry's  in second  fand HArden in 3rd... Lebron? 4th?

I agree, the moves that Presti made were crazy.  I miss seeing big Perk out there but he needed to go.  Russell is a MVP caliber athlete, no doubt.  He's got my vote.

I hope we can keep rolling and give KD some time to rest before the playoffs.

wizards are on a roll the last few games but before that they dropped from 2nd to 6th place in the east while on a 2-10 stretch or something like that.
hopefully John wall really is feeling healthier and not just pushing through it.
their success in teh postseason compeltely hinges on his play after the overal team's health of course.

portland actually was quitely murdering the west all year right behind GSW until wesley Matthews got hurt a week or two ago.
its unfortunate mostly because they have such a fragile mentality when it comes to iunjuries b/c of the team's history.
the good news is afflalo was about the perfect pickup for them with or without matthews in teh lineup.
if the rest of the team can stay healthy they actually still have a real good shot this year.
and Batum was struggling til recently b/c of his injuries but actually the last few games he's really picked it up.

yeah hopefully he'll be back close to 100% by the playoffs.
i'm seriously worried about j wall though. he's got a ton of minor injuries that could really catch up to him in the playoffs.

besides injuries though, the wizards has an amazing team this year.
the could easily get lucky and  beat everyone in the east.
they have the talent and experience now.

on another note, i can't believe OKC could possibly miss the playoffs after the MVP type year westbrook is having.
the 8th  spot in the west is basically down to them and new orleans, but with Ibaka going out and KD still out, and the pelicans playing very good... yikes.

Kd out for the season. what a bummer for okc fans and fans of the sport in general.

this season has been horrible for the entire league injury wise.
i thought the last 2 years since the shortened season were all bad, but this year its been across the board, almost every team, and multiple major players per team in many cases.

I wish to god they would spread the schedule out.
not just to keep the players alive, but also its amazing how many wins/losses are determined by schedule.
anyway,  :-P to injuries in basketball. so annoying.

not sure if you saw it. KD came out and said he wants to stay.

After watching todays bulls cavs game i think im ready to make playoff predictions.
Barring any major injuries on either team i'm betting on a Warriors v. Cavs final.

wildcards might be the Spurs and the Bulls... or hawks.
-the Spurs had an incredible month last month and were steamrolling momentum wise until Splitter got hurt this week. I havent heard the prognosis on him yet.
-the Bulls are great and i love tibado in the playoffs, but i dont see them getting past the Cavs without a 50+% d rose...

Yeah, I saw it.  Here's the deal...I love KD, I think he's got a great attitude and plays hard.  I hope he plays every professional game of his career in OKC.  It just makes no sense to me to stay in OKC if I'm him.  Washington will offer him more money than OKC can with Westbrook on the roster as well.  Plus, Ibaka's salary doesn't help the case for OKC either.  Washington is where he is from & is way more of a happening place than OKC.  Fact.

That being said...Whats a few more million when you are already raking it in with endorsements and salary?  Things in the corporate world do a lot dumber things for a few hundred grand than move from OKC to Washington.  Money changes people.  However, if he stays in OKC he goes down as a legend and hopefully builds a dynasty.  I mean if Westbrook and KD win 3-4 Championships they go down in NBA history to never be forgotten.

I can see both sides of the argument and obviously you know what I hope happens but do you see what I'm saying?

so, GREAT year in the NBA!

only real downside has been the continuation of the injury bug from the last 2 seasons.  This year it is interesting b/c almost every team in the playoff chase has dealt with at least 1 major injury except the 2 conference leaders.
GSW and ATL both have 10+ game leads on the 2nd place teams, and both have had the best luck avoiding any major injuries.

the overall parody that has been achieved over the last few years since the CBA has given some of the tightest playoff chases ever.
2-6 in the west are currently seperated by only 2 games! 7-8 are in a virtual tie.
then in the east you have 7-11 that have all basically been tied for the last month.

i'm still pulling for Brooklyn, theyve beenreally playin good since getting thad young... & thanks NYK for the worst season in franchise history, lol  :shakehead:
can't wait for the playoffs!

i hate bron bron with a passion.

i could go on for weeks about why and how, but as i told my mother the other day he really is just the culmulation ( -cant spell that  :frustrated: ) of modern athletics ridiculous precedence in American society.

I mean,  the guy had his high school games broadcast on espn for cryin out loud... it's not like he ever had the chance to mature past 14 years old without thinking he was the next coming of all that matters in this country.
Not that it gives him a total pass to be a douchebag, but at the same time i could see him not ever knowing how to cope without the game. I can envision him  playing well into his 40s, or even 50s if some experimental technology or whatever comes along, reminiscent of Kobe these last few years.

Watching the Raptors - Knicks and a blatant no call by the officials on an out of bounds call that could have changed the outcome of the game.
I'm obviously clueless when it comes to basketball to have to ask this but there isn't a challenge to go upstairs or anything in a line violation?

gonna be interesting to see how they do incorporating CArrol whenever hes supposed to be back.
was their big off season pickup, but id almost be worried he'd upset their chemistry right now.

I hate BronBron, but the guy played like a beast and it was hard not to feel for him when he broke down after winning.  I'm sure it meant a lot to him and the people of Ohio and it is good to see their "curse" has been broken.

Man, Golden State though, what happened?  Seems like Curry was never really himself after he got injured during the series with Houston.  I hope he isn't hiding a more serious injury.

there are a lot of people here in Ohio that will tell you 'fuck Cleveland' and they wish the curse was still on them.

Granted I only watched a handful of GSW games this season, but it was strange not to see those long jumpers from Curry going in throughout the series.  His defence seemed like a liability at times too, maybe a result of all the stupid touch fouls?

Personally, I really couldn't care less.  I've never really felt any sense of loyalty to any team(s) in particular.  I just want to see a good game/series.  It was pretty awesome because of the history that was made, but I'd honestly be saying that about any team which pulled off a 3-1 comeback in the finals.

As for NE Ohio as a whole, out of those who actually care one way or the other, I'd guess it's about 50/50 haters and fans.  That's entirely anecdotal -- so take it with a grain of salt.  But, for the fans, it's the best thing ever.  Understandably so.

Lebron annoys the hell out of me with his whiny schtick with the refs but did you see him dunk over Durant last night. Total arm in his face and still manages to dunk over a 7 ft player. That guy is a freak of nature. I give him another 2 years of dominance in this league.

Durant's not 7 ft, he's only an inch taller than LeBron.

Regardless what BronBron does from here on out, Jordan never would have gone out 4-1 in his prime.

LeBron officially exited the GOAT conversation last night.

Jordan never would have gone out 4-1 in his prime.

Jordan never played a team on the level of this Warriors team in the finals. I don't think anyone has.

73 win team + KD is cray. Curry and KD are surefire hall of famers with a combined 5 scoring titles and 3 MVPs. Klay and Draymond and possibly Iguodala will make it too if they stay together and win a couple more titles, which is looking pretty likely at this point.

To be clear, none of this pleases me. As a Blazer fan, I'm horrified.

Title: Re: !!!NBA!!!
Post by: Hicks on June 14, 2017, 02:17:03 AM
Eh, I'm not too worried, once they give Curry the max contract he deserves they'll be pretty limited in what they can offer KD and Thompson to stay with them after next season.

I bet their roster looks pretty different come 2018-19.

Maybe we can snag Love once King James demands his head?

A power forward is the piece we desperately need now.

as much as i believe LBJ is cancerous at times, the Cavs made great moves with this deal IMHO.
They unloaded a bunch of dead weight and got back 4 very solid players with the ability to pick up 2 more through buyouts.

a consumate vet in G hill who pairs well James when LEbron plays point. also a great 2 way player and atop the league in 3point %...and he has a ton of playoff experience.
then 3 young guns, ALL athletic and smart and good scorers.
Hood is amazing if healthy, NAnce is underated and a great roleplayer, and CLarkson has huge potential.

I'm tellin' ya, watch out if K Love comes back at full strength, This team got much more dangerous.
Now, will that translate to playoff success especially considering the young guys lack of experience? Hard to tell as of yet.
It wouldnt surprise me at all though if they still make it out of the EAST...

Indy had multiple opportunities in the series but lack of experience keeps them from pulling out game 7.
--this Cavs team is garbage though. Bron has to score 45 a game for them to win.
the Raps should absolutely decimate this team. Like 5 games tops.
If they cant take care of business this year they need to fire everyone from the top down.

So many missed shots down the stretch, so many.

Turns out relying on Valencunias and Van Fleet to hit game winning shots just isn't a sound strategy.

Some of the offensive sets were brutal, come out of a time out and DeRozan just tries to dribble with no help into the paint?  I don't usually agree with blaming Casey but that's always been one area of weakness, late in the game there is no offensive imagination.

Raptors will adjust the defence and win Game 2 but the games in Cleveland will be really tough.

Pretty aweome watching them run the Rockets own offense against them last night. Basically running Mitchell in the Harden role.

Celtics looking good, slight chance Philly comes back, but man what an epic fail by Simmons with one point.

Rozier killing it isn't news anymore but wow Tatum, kid was blowing it up last night!

As for Cavs, you gotta wonder if fatigue is gonna be a factor for Bron at some point. Can he keep playing 40+ minutes every night without running out of gas eventually?

i gotta laugh alittle @ rockets tonite.
they are so overconfident. Utah lost Rubio, Exum and now Mitchell to injury in this series and still gave them a coupel good games.
i seriously think they are in for a shock next round.

boston has been my favorite team most of the year. shame kyrie had to go down. hopefully they can still make a good go of it with cleveland.
ingeneral though boston has been my fav organization the last few years. D Ainge has consistantly made great decisions and B Stevens is hands down my fav coach in the league right now. dude's a genius.

Agreed, as fantastic as Rozier and Tatum have been, Stevens hands down out coached Brown.

Great game tonight, went right down to the wire but in the end Embiid couldn't deliver when they needed a basket.

Hope the Celtics can take out BronBron.

But man, super stoked for GS/Houston, that should be epic.

With all of the injuries, I thought it would be Philly in 5, maybe 6.  I mean, the NBA is about stars, especially in the playoffs, and we had none.

And now it looks like we may have 2 stars for the next few years in Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.  Oh, and Coach Brad.

Some big decisions for the Celtics once they get healthy, Rozier is clearly a starting quality PG and where does Hayward fit in now?

Yeah, he's a great player and an all-star, but not a ***STAR***

Smart is a RFA, Baynes is gone next year, and Danny has to decide whether to hold on to Rozier for another year before he is RFA (and likely gone) or to trade him and get something of value back.  I hope they can resign Smart to a relatively cheap deal and hold on to Rozier as insurance.  Assuming good health, that team can legitimately contend for the title.

As for Hayward, he fits in perfectly still.  The emergence of of Brown and Tatum just means that a starting 5 of Kyrie/Brown/Tatum/Hayward/Horford is essentially impossible to stop (and is also VERY strong defensively), and gives Brad infinite ways to create matchup problems for any team.

Rozier is way better than Smart though. I just don't see him being happy only getting minutes in the low 20s off the bench.

As for a starting 5 of Kyrie/Brown/Tatum/Hayward/Horford, I think you're gonna have some matchup problems playing Hayward at PF, dude is only 6'8".

Of course Rozier is better than Smart.  But he's going to command >$15M per season when he hits RFA, and if we decide to give Kyrie a max contract after next season, that would be a foolish use of $ under the cap.  I think we might be able to get Marcus to resign for around $8M per season, and he is not under any delusions that he is a "starter".  He knows his role and he plays it perfectly.

Regarding Hayward and PF, what does that even mean any more?  There are no longer PG, SG, SF, PF, C lineups in the NBA.  It's primary ball-handlers, wings, and bigs (ideally floor-stretching like Horford).  Each member of that starting 5 is versatile and can cover many positions, so they can switch all day on D.  And no team can adequately cover those 5 with their skills sets.  Lastly, that lineup has plenty of height:

Kyrie- 6'3"
Brown- 6'7"
Heyward- 6'8"
Tatum- 6'8"
Horford- 6'10"

Smart- 6'4" (but can cover anyone on the court)
Rozier- 6'2" (with incredible wingspan and ups)
Morris- 6'9"
Theis- 6'9"
Title: Re: !!!NBA!!!
Post by: Hicks on May 10, 2018, 07:35:10 PM
Sure coaches mix up the line ups more now, but it's pretty tough to win a championship with only one guy over 6'9" and no guys that are 6'11" or seven feet in your rotation.

Even the Warriors have Pachulia and McGee and before that Bogut and Mo Buckets.

Fully aware of the record and the fact that Lebron is still the best player on the planet. Just being optimistic about this team. Iíll be honest, about 5 minutes into the season, I thought the season was done. Then Kyrie. Then Theis. Then Smart, whose return was critical in squeaking by the Bucks in the first round. Then Jaylen, who seems to have recovered quickly but missed critical time in the playoffs. We have been playing with house money since the first game, and I prepared for the end right from the start. Itís nice to finally feel optimistic about this team. Maybe itís still cautiously optimistic, but Iím getting there...

Family/life stuff got in the way, so I couldn't go.  But it was awesome, and I will certainly put in an effort to get a Finals ticket if it comes to that...

I talked to my wife about it today, and we're gonna let our 9 year old son stay up for the whole game tonight.  It might not sound like much, but we're really strict about bedtimes.

Either Lebron is totally gassed at this point, or he took the last game off.  I'm not sure which is worse.

He straight up admitted that he's tired, which of course he is, dude can't be expected to play 40+ minutes every night for months on end.

As much as I love to hate on LeBron, he's only human and I actually think he has a lot of heart and is probably a pretty good guy IRL. When he finally brought the championship home to Cleveland in 2016, it was definitely an emotional moment that I won't forget.

1st time in 39 years with both conference finals going to 7.

Both games should be real interesting too, especially with the injuries.
I give the Celts/Cavs game almost a 50/50 chance of either winning with Love out.
& the The Warriors/Rockes is a complete toss up at this point without knowing whether Igoudala or Paul will play. Though i have a feeling neither will, which again feels almost like a 50/50 chance for both.

On a side note Mad Props to D. Lillard for making 1st team all NBA along side the likes of HArden, Lebron, durrant and a Davis. wow.
Really impressive considering how many dominate PGs there are in the league.

Yeah but yall signed S. Curry today!  (.......Seth)

Yeah just what we need, another guard.

I hope they get somebody good for CJ, but they will probably fuck that up too.
heh i wa sjoking about curry, but yeah the blazers just seem stuck getting over the hump the last few years. I forgot about CJ, are they moving him ?

We just picked up like 50 guards so it looks like he might be on the block, but who knows.  I hope he stays.  Just not sure why we didn't get a sick forward.  We are still crushed by the Meyers Leonard contract too.  Worst contract in the league :-(.

Blows my mind we are paying Leonard all that cash and then we couldn't cough up 4 million for Ed Davis. Such ineptitude.

But yeah with the amount of guards we now have, you gotta figure they are looking to move CJ.

Nice opener from the Blazers last night taking down Bronbron in his debut :)
Stauskas was on fire.
RIP Paul Allen btw, Def. one of the NBA's greatest all time owners. He will be missed.

Knew there was a reason i loved Klay Thompson.
Caught him sporting a Steal your face hoodie in post game interview tonight after he broke the 3 point record. 14 threes in 2 and half quarters btw, lol.

great season so far for the Nuggets too. tied for first in the West. Cant wait for Will Barton to come back and Isaiah Thomas, even though Monte Morris has been handling PG pretty well.

Stoked!!

Yeah, it's a good sign when we can get jobbed by the refs, miss a shitload of 3s and still have a good chance to win.

It's a bad sign that we had no answer for Jokic.  Not that there are too many big men with that skill set but he seemed un-defendable.
