Title: Everyshow in Circulation Hard drive B&P
Post by: CRAZYED on May 19, 2008, 05:05:21 PM
In the past at one point this was referred to operation assface. I dont really call it that personally, but i have finally completed Operation Everyshow. I have put together a collection of all phish shows known to circulate - but this does not mean i have all sources. Usually for the early years if a sbd circulates as well as an AUD, i have both. The later years, i sometimes have multiple aud sources if available. Everything has been converted to FLAC, named to etree standards and metatags (artist, date, venue, source, genre etc) have been included for each track.

The entire FLAC catalog fits nicely on 2x750gig drives with a good 100-200gig free on each drive for growth.

I also have the same catalog available in 320kbps MP3 which fits nicely on a 500gig drive. Yes, I will probably take heat for offering this lossless up but some people just dont need or want flac and they just want to listen to these on their computer/ipod

Last thing to note, i have setup a distribution list to notify those who want to be notified when a new show becomes available (usually on bt.etree.org). I just sent out a reminder email to the list with a link - saying you should probably grab this and add it to your vault.

If you are interested in this, I will take some B&P's. If you want to buy a drive or two and have it directly shipped to me I can accommodate that. After I fill the drive and calculate return shipping, you can paypal me the shipping money & Paypal fees. Then i ship the drive. Or if you want to do a traditional B&P you just send the return shipping up front. Obviously i have no intentions of making money on this deal but i'm not paying out of pocket for shipping costs. If you are interested in this send me a PM.

Just an FYI you can get a western digital 500gig external for $90 shipped at buy.com right now.

Seriously, when I started collecting shows $90 would have purchased around 45 XLIIS, or roughly 22 full shows. Now I can have them all for the same price. I like the future.

Nice.

I myself only have 1994thru2004 (and many of those are livephish shows), but they've all been converted to apple lossless and tagged to my own standard...  The song name, go figure.  Anyhow, they're set up to go into iTunes and their artwork is the setlist and notes.  It's pretty slick, but it is my own standard.  I'll offer up the same thing for those of you who like lossless on your pod, but not right yet.  It's all still on discs and I have to run through the tags and song names one more time.  I'm not sure when I'll get a drive to do that, but I need 1T at least.  Hopefully by the fall, I'll have one or two fired up and I'll be ready to go.

Anyhow, this is a great thing.  I know how much work it is not only to collect everything, but then to encode/tag/organize.  And I only did the second half of their career!  You have to be pretty psyched about having this to offer.

Kudos and +k

Here is some additional info i posted to taperssection.com....

BTW, to answer a few questions about the archive.  When I collected all the shows, I pretty much went by db.etree.org as the source of truth for what circulates.  If it didnt circulate in etree chances are i probably dont have it.  With so many shows, this thing isnt perfect but i spent hours and hours and years putting it together and organizing. I hate shn format so that was the first thing to go, especially non-seekable shns.  EVERYTHING is flac.  All files are renamed to etree standards phxxxx-xx-xxdxtxx.flac.  Metatags were added for artist, album (date xxxx-xx-xx - venue - city, state, country when outside of us).  Whole year md5s are included for verification when copying the archive to another drive for one of you peeps and your friends.

As for what sources did i use.  Well....for the early years where both sbds and auds are available, i tried to get both when possible.  I dont have both in all cases but i would say i probably do in most.  As the years went on less sbds were available and more aud choices were available.  First rule of thumb i followed in the last few years, get all sobel/flaschner/byron sources.   Jason is the man when it comes to xfers and the generous tapers have been coming out of the woodwork the past few years getting him the sickest sources.  After that, i have always preferred shepz.  Gimme fob 4v's any day.  But, in the end i would like to say i've got a good ear and would always *try* for the best source, which also meant not always shepz.  That could be FOB akgs one night, section shepz, fob neumanns, we all know there are a 100 different combos out there.  it's so subjective and we all know that on this forum more so than the average phan board. I did my best to go for the best, in my opinion.  The thing about this archive, is it grows almost daily.  And if you don't like my choices on sources, chances are you probably have them in your collections already or can get them with minimal effort on bt.etree/week4paug.net.

In the end I did this for me first, and to share with those who will appreciate it.  Not for those who ask for a copy and do nothing but bitch about what I did or didn't do or how i did it.

personally, I don't agree with the changing of the original transfer but I really don't care.  you are getting shows out to the people and that is what matters so +k for that.

what really trubles me is how personal you have taken this to the point where you mention where to get shows and INTENTIONALLY leave the spot off where a great number of people jave and still continue to get their shows.

anyway, congrats on your accomplishment and hopefully people take advantage of your kind offer.

key: * = the tape that I traded was a Maxell Metal 110 mins. but was cut like a 90 min. tape.

** = I did some editing work to smooth out things pretty much as best I could using fade ins, & outs, 1 cross fade, & 2 very small high cuts that after listening to them sounded better to my ears than the originals. hopefully you wont even notice. other than that there were a few various defects on the tape that I fixed up as best I could.the worst of the cuts are in "The Curtain"(@ 19:02)that I fixed. the next one was a defect in "Fire"(@38:13)that I fixed. Alumni & Col. Forbins have small defects that I left alone.

azimuth adjusted for your listening pleasure. Still the couple of gens that are on the tape come through with some noticeable hiss. Which really only makes it hard to listen to, with headphones on.

***I was going to include the story about that day & night but we'll leave that for another time.

I just wanted to take a second and thank Ed for doing this and offering to everyone. Ed hooked me up with the archive and all I can say is that it's great. It's really nice to be able to sit back with the companion and listen to the show I am reading about. Good stuff and I recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it.

Hi All!

I'm requesting a favor from anyone who is willing to copy Crazy Ed's FLAC hard drive(s) for me.  I'd be more then happy to pass the favor on if anyone has the time to help me out.

I am obviously new to this community, but I heard about Ed's big bad drive of phishy FLAC from a Phish-centric listserv I am a member of.

Thanks!

I too would be interested in acquiring this if anyone still has it going.  I'm afraid to say it, but mp3s work for me and my iPod.   I was just laughing the other day about all my dusty stacks of shn/flac cds and dvds taking up space.  Just message me I guess, thanks in advance.

I can but it would have to be in flac and shn. I do not convert my older shn's to flac nor add metatags...everything is as it was originally seeded. Also you would have to send the drive to Canada (25$approx.)....but I know people who would vouch for me if that is needed.  Shoot me a PM if interested.

Superfreakie, thank you so much. Are shn files a bit larger? If so does everything still fit on two 750 gig hard drives? I definitely appreciate the offer, but I would prefer to get CrazyEd's flac files and not have to ship out of the US. If I dont get any offers in a couple weeks I'll take you up on your generous offer, thanks so much! Also I have no reason not to trust you so no need for anyone to vouch for you. Again, thanks so much!

Nope, the difference in size between shn and flac is negligible. I am just someone who doesn`t like to change things so that I can then seed the originals as well as co-seed. I don`t want to take a chance at screwing up the pool. Right now I have 1993 to 2004 on a one terabyte drive and the earlier years on another drive. In total I would guess it to be 1250 but I can`t give you an exact number because there are videos interspersed in there. Also to ship from coast to coast in the states is as expensive to ship to Canada depending on where you are in the States. I am in Quebec so if you live on the east coast it is not that expensive.

No, you do not need to convert your flacs to wave/disc in order to play them. One, you can now hook your computer up to your stereo via many different methods. Western Digital have just launched a player into which you can plug their external drives and then play all sorts of audio and video mediums including HD 1080p and wait for it........FLAC. Second, there are now hand held players (same size as ipods) that play flacs and these can be hooked up to stereos and car stereos via various gadgets. You mention you are an audiophile and an old head from the good old Maxell XLII days. Well, so am I and my best advice, if you have money, would be to go into an audio store, tell them your collection is all flacs, shns and 24 bits on a hard drive and that you would like to know what your options are. You will be pleasantly surprised at what is available. I personally run my music from my hard drives>computer>pre-amps>high end 30 band EQ>gorgeous dual tube amps>audiophile speakers. I don't convert a single flac or shn file. Shoot me a message.

Popcorn Hour is another device you can look at for flac playback.

http://www.popcornhour.com/onlinestore/

I use the squeezebox and love it.  But the PCH does video playback as well.

By the way the current vault is growing and now includes a shit ton of side projects and guest appearances.  Basically anything a member of phish has played in, i'm adding.  Getting close to having every tab show ever with the recent project going on on etree.  Right now all the flacs will fit on a 1.5tb drive.  If you want mp3s as well you'll need to go 2tb. You can find 1tb drives for under $100 these days.

First post, new to this forum...  Anyway, just recently I've got back into collecting shows- I am going from cassettes and CDs to FLAC.  Good god, why did I waste all that time and effort!?  Anyway, I'm on a couple year old iMac.  Those have a fiber optic audio output which I bought a cable for and plugged directly into my receivers input.  Oh man it sounds friggin great!  I don't mean to threadjack, just pointing out that there are so many ways to enjoy these quality lossless audio recordings.

I'm confused, I thought when you joined this place you were supposed to start random incoherent threads.

You've reviewed previous topics and posted about music.  Also, that's about the smoothest 2nd-post ISO I've seen.

Are you on a different drug than the other people?

And back to the topic- if this B+P is still available, please let me know as I'd be interested in working something out.  Thanks!

FLAC or mp3?

still ISO of the FLAC hard drive as well.  I will happily seed the drive to others as well.  I'm not interested in the MP3 drive.

Yeah, I had no idea this existed.  Let's get this train going again.  I'll be happy to use mine to 'seed' it once I have it.

I am on hiatus from doing this because i've been getting bombarded from close friends and moving into my new house but there are plenty of people i have hooked up.  I know there are 13 peeps with copies of the flac so hopefully some of them can give back a bit.  And tons of peeps with mp3z.

Looking to get hooked up with this.  FLAC preferred, but I could live with MP3's.

If you'd like a 500 Gb drive filled with mp3s shoot me a PM. I'd be glad to help out.

edit: that offer is open to anyone, btw

I don't have the full FLAC drive, but I have selected years from Ed along with the rest (or at least most all) of the Phish catalogue in shn from various other trades.

I have a 1TB drive with 1990-2000 and a 250G with the '80s.

PM with questions or interest.

edit to add:  My 2003 and 2004 shows are untradable as they are from livephish dl's.

If anyone grabs a copy of the FLAC vault - i basically created an email distribution list that i send out updates to.  IE a new show or source comes into circulation, i send an email out to the list with a link.  Let me know if you need to be added.  I do not send out email updates for the mp3 vault.

I'm willing to hook people up with the complete collection.  I'm currently working on getting as many sources in circulation as possible.  I'm complete and the disc size is currenty 1.8TB.  If you are interested in a b&p let me know.  I know there are others doing this, I would just like to help out and soften the load for them, and be another resource.

I'll be happy to help out if I can.  If you have people that contact you and you can't help them out just send them my way.  I have plenty of time to work on it.

I know this is only my second post, but anyway someone can help me out with a b+p of this? I would be very thankful and would also do a couple of b+p's for others afterwards.

PM Jeff Mitchell (the author of the post above yours). I helped complete his collection with a 2 TB B&P (He is missing a few sources from 99 and 93 I believe). He found me through this thread and is now the one filling this ISO thread.

If you pm'd Jeff Mitchell he will get back to you. Worse comes to worst, I will fill your order. But please wait a week, as I am sure Jeff will get back to you and I am away from my drives at the moment.
