Getting back on track, here is a sweet early version of the  :syf: 's Alligator from 22Jan.1968 Seattle, WA.  As featured on the GDH 337, this version is a smoker and a must hear:

In celebration of Phish's Story of the Ghost 10 Year Anniversary album debut of 29Oct.1998, I'll be seeding best of live tracks begining with this ripping Ghost from Holmdel, NJ 15July1999:

Continuing w/ a raucous Birds of A Feather from 8July1999, this ripper features great If I Only Had A Brain jamming in the latter half:

One of many tour highlights from Fall '98, this version of Meat from 13Nov.1998 features an atypical extended jam combining both its funk origins and then growing ambient spaces:

2 weeks before their embryonic "Ghost" jam out of Wolfman's at Hamburg 1March1997, the Phish stormed the Paradiso in Amsterdam on 17Feb. unleashing an all-time best performance including this excellent reading of Guyute:

After 2 successful European tours in 1997, the Phish returned to Europe for a short stint in July '98 where they debuted much of their Story Of The Ghost material including this world debut of Mike Gordon's Fikus from Copenhagen, Denmark 2July1998 w/ intro banter from Trey:

After their succesful Island Tour in early April the Phish returned to Bearsville studios to finish up the SOTG including this Shafty from 7May1998 which had metamorphosed from its previous arrangement of Oblivious Fool:

By Dec.'99 the Phish were gearing up for their millenial blow-out in Big Cypress.  The late Fall/early Dec. tour featured spectacular playing and improv. ultimately paving the way for Cypress.     ***** Limb to be here shortly*****

Another definitive highlight from Fall '98, this great ambient version of Frankie Says from Denver, CO 4Nov.1998 says it all about where Phish's improvisational style had gone during the release of the SOTG:

Ha.  Back when I was trying to get my younger bro into teh  :phish: I made him a mix tape exactly like this because he liked the album.  I thought it would be a good way for him to make the transition to the live stuff because he was already familiar with the tunes.  Worked like champ!

Here are a couple of great versions of Playing In the Band.  The first comes from 18Nov.1972, a 25 minute opus and Dick Latvala favorite that shows the  :syf: at their Fall '72 improvisational best:

The second comes from the  :syf: 's spring '73 tour culled from 16March1973(2 days after my birthday!) and a favorite of VA Slim:

Thread debut, this stellar sandwich from Amsterdam.  Garcia burns throughout this amazing piece of improvisation, a must hear!

Finally got a chance to listen to this today, and played it twice during the day.  It's been on my desktop forever.  I really like it, I'm going to check out the rest of the show.  Thanks for the upload....

Been listening to  :syf: Nov. 1972 this week and this interesting version of Playing from 12Nov. really caught my ear.  First, the mix is different in that Jerry is mixed to the right side w/ Weir on the left where typically just the opposite is common, at least in my listening experience.  Also the jamming is great, you can really hear both players crystal sharp.  So many good versions of Playing abound but this one, while maybe not as great as 18Nov. certainly deserves a listen ot two:

solid pick..very experimental and improv..alot of different changes in tempo..sweet transition back into it at just past the 20 minute mark..they also followed this show the very next night at the same venue w/ another playin..not my fav but def like the different places the boys take this one..too bad the vocals on this rec are crap cuz the playin is fantastic!

I'll check out the next nights version as well.  This tune in particular truly reached zenith levels that tour w/ nearly every version recommended.
