http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/26/world/asia/26warlogs.html?no_interstitialSo about that war in Afghanistan, it's going real fucking well. What pisses me off about these supposed "new" documents is that there is absolutely nothing new in them. All this information was only a couple research mouse clicks away. Civilian casualties have long been known and documented by the Red Cross, debunking much of the military's media reports. We've known the government is corrupt; Christ, Karzai's brother is the biggest drug dealer in the country and on the CIA payroll. We know the Pakistani intelligence service are secretly supporting the Taliban, they essentially created them. And it is not Stinger missiles left over from the nineties war that they are using, these are new surface to air heat seeking missiles produced in China and brought into Afghanistan via Iran. We have known this for some time because they have found these weapons after raids, all with the serial numbers scratched out. And come on now, did they really think we would believe that that many multi-million dollar attack helicopters were "accidentally" crashing to the ground. Good Lord.
Well, you can thank Obama. Unfortunately, when it comes to war, slow pragmatism and half ass resourcing while trying to appease all political parties, fails a hundred percent of the time. Not that this war is winnable anyway, because there is no definition of winnable that remotely achieves our objectives. 300 billion dollars..and then add another 20 billion from Canada and 20 billion from Britain......340 billion dollars, nothing achieved. Not a single true assessment metric shows success at this moment in time. 9 years and absolutely nothing.
Oh, and now watch how the White House spins and distracts you by attempting to shift the focus of this incident from what the leak highlights to how this leak breaches national security and endangers the lives of troops. Groan.
