this could work in Syracuse's favor.  3 games in 3 days can take a lot out of a team trying to make a deep run in the Tournament.

could work against them in a couple of ways, too.

a.) theyve lost 2 in a row now (first time all season).  they lost their first game in the conf. championship.  do they get a #1 seed anymore?  id think so, but id also think it depends who wins the big east tournament, who plays for the big ten championship, and who wins the ACC.

b.) no team that lost their first game of their conf tourney has ever won a championship

c.) onuaku was injured (knee) in the game, might not be 100%.  mri tomorrow.

2 game losing streak doesn't bother me much.  it happens.

as a fan, I want tyhem to be a #1 seed.  as of now they will be ranked either 4 or 5 in the ncaa field.  really doesn't make a huge difference.

it normally would matter where they play but they couldn't play in the east anyway because the conference finals are at the dome so seeding doesn't make a huge difference.

as far as injuries go, we'll just wait and see.  no use worrying about it now.

yeah, in the end, i dont think those factors add up to much.  having a 1 or a 2 seed wont effect much, especially if their quadrant of the bracket ends up w/ 1 vs. 2 in the elite 8 anyway.  the same two teams are likely to be 1 and 2 in that quadrant, so it would be a non-issue if it came down to that.  but, my opinion is that syr still gets a 1 seed anyway.

the problem w/ the big east is how they just beat up on each other all through conference play and the conference tournament.  top to bottom, the big east has been the most competitive conference for the last decade.  yet theyve only had 2 teams reach the finals (uconn and syr, both won) in the last 10 years.  the acc has 4 championships in the last decade.  the sec has 2.  the big10 has 1.  the big12 has 1.

another big east game going to the wire!

marquette has played 13 games this year that were decided by 3 points or less.  4 of their last 6 have gone to overtime.  talk about exciting!

im an acc guy, born and bred, and a tar heel every day i wake up until the day i die (even though i went to wvu and will also support them for eternity, i would take unc over wvu in basketball every single time they play). but there is no denying that the big east delivers where the acc has dropped off in recent years.  the acc still wins more championships but there is no more exciting conference top-to-bottom than the big east.

think about the fact that gtown can now play SU, Nova and WVU in 3 consecutive days.  basically 3 top 10 teams in 3 days.

I love the big east tourney even though syracuse sucks.

I dislike nova but I hope they win just so there are as many potential epic games as possible.  that wvu/nova game last weekend was awesome.

wvu needed a last second 3 to beat marquette by 1 in their regular season matchup.  marquette can play.  nova beat them in the regular season w/ a last second layup.  marquette lost 2 games to nova this year by a total of 4 points.

but this one is looking over to me, marquette up 2 w/ the ball and 4.5 seconds left.

polls in college bball are especially meaningless
That's some counterproductive 'pauging right there.

edit:  Because you actually need to read it all to understand.  Turn your attention span up past 3.49 seconds and you'll be fine.

theres usually a line, and its different every year.  but you can usually see where the top 3, 4, 7, or 12 teams are.  and in a competitive year, those teams can beat one another on any given day.  very rarely do you have a team like last year's tarheels, or that florida team who won their 2nd consecutive title where you can say "that team is definitely the best team in the ncaa this year."

Tar Heels in '11!  Back in Baby Blue, baby!

Mountaineers won a sorry ass game against Cincinnati.  Fucking ugly.  Not quite as ugly as the Pitt vs. Notre Dame game, but still a damn boring game.  I cant believe they let Cincinnati play us so close.  As soon as they got the ball back on CIN's last second mistake I texted my buddy: "Butler for the win."  He's done it so many times this season.  He didnt even get the shot he wanted, but the bank was open and it went down for the win.  Crazy finish to an otherwise slow game.

just an interesting note.
the big east has used the double bye system for 2 years now.  this year, 3 of the 4 teams with the double bye lost their first game and last year 2 of the 4 teams lost their first game.

I highly doubt we will see a double bye next year.  it is not good for ratings.

not making excuses, but it shows the system is not good for the conference tournament.

nah, the double bye sucks.  drop the bottom 4 teams like always and only give 1 bye night to the top 4.  its all about momentum and nobody w/ a double bye had any.

I find myself in one of those ultra rare occurrences where I'm actually rooting for UVA to win a game.  not because I hate d00k so much, but because if the Hokies dispatch Miami they face the winner.

27-27 @ halftime.

I'm rooting for uva because it will help syracuse with a #1 seed or it theoretically should.

oh, how the mighty orange fans have fallen.
