Let's do this! Game 1 of 64. I'll get to the other groups over the weekend.

Prediction:
Mexico 2-1 South Africa

Better opening half than I expected from both sides. South Africa were getting better with their final ball as the half went on.

There was a raging debate, culminating in the FIFA President Sepp Blatter have a public tantrum of a three-year old, regarding use of goal-line technology, instant replay, and additional officials at the goals all of which were blocked by that idiot. While I don't know about instant replay, additional officials would have been helpful with regard to the disallowed goal. Ironic that this will mar the opening match if Mexico don't score another goal....

SA needs to quit wasting the ball in the center of the park. When players are throwing the ball in to the opponents team on accident, they needs to have their asses chewed.

Well, if that goal would have stood, my prediction would have been correct!  8-)

SA can take many positives from that match. Mexico's ability to top the group probably took a hit today, but not out of the question. Won't even hazard a guess as to the scoreline of the afternoon match, I have no idea what two teams are going to show up today.

Skipped out of work early and am sitting in a Korean bar near my crib eating Korean double fried chicken and sipping on a beer watching Uruguay v France.

Yeah, Ribery was woeful. Announcer recommending that Govou come off in place of Malouda, and I was all the time thinking Ribery was contributing nothing.

Terrible tackle by the youngster Ledeiro from Uruguay. Occasion got to his head I believe.

^Yeah, thought so, does he see much playing time with Ajax? Affelay at PSV is someone I recommended to keep an eye on in this thread, can you give any more info on him (what kind of season he had, regular playing time, etc...?).

Alright, I'll go ahead and make another one:
US 1-1 England

And I very much dislike Alexi Lalas. Really can't stand to listen to him any more. It is going to be a long tournament wtih respect to that.

That's some counterproductive 'pauging right there.

So, a couple of points. Good result for the US.

Way too narrow. The reason you have touchlines is because you can play all the way to them without being out of bounds.
Great game by Cherundolo and Howard. Those are my MVP's of the match.

Passing. Must. Get. Better.

Must.

Slovenia next, right?

Is there a sports franchise in the world that has nicer uniforms than the England kits? I don't think so.

USA has to feel lucky given the misplayed goal.
