New interview with Mike and Marco... includes this funny bit about Trey and drugs...

"Marco, is someone, by the way, who once showed up at a band practice with the three of us—me, Marco and Joe—having learned all of "Foam," a Phish song, which is a fugue. He learned the singing parts as well, and maybe three instruments worth of parts on a song that's already daunting enough to learn. And then, another time, the three of us went into the studio with Trey [Anastasio, for the album Bar 17], where he had these arrangements for songs like "Goodbye Head" that are over the top crazy rhythms. One's going up and some other ones going down, while the leader is dabbling in D-R-U-G-S all the time and trying to execute these takes. So it's pretty cool when I experience someone like you, or Robert [Walter], who goes so deep into learning different kinds of music and then just forgets it all for sake of incredible energy and smiley-ness. So, it's a really good combination to walk into at any time for me."

Phish is on a crazy press tour to push this new album. I haven't seen their PR team this busy since 2009.

Trey saying he wants YEM to be the last song Phish ever plays may go way back. It was the last song played before to 1st hiatus.

At Coventry, I'm sure he was so junked-out that he forgot about that 'want'.

You haven't lived until you've had a robot shart in your ear and followed along in the live setlist thread while it happens.

Great article!  5 divorces?  Trey has none.  Who has more than one?

mistercharlie

Fish has been divorced twice now. He and Briar got divorced a year or two ago, and he was married to that Pam chick in the 80's.

Page has and Sofi divorced in 2001 or 2002, then he got remarried. Not sure if he still is.

Funny enough, when trying to find this info, I found us as a source!

Mike's then wife Priscilla made the cover for this. But you guys already knew that.

The WTF with Trey is up wherever you podcast!! It's almost 2 hours long. Just started it myself!!

For those who can't seem to figure out what the rest of the world has done for years, here is the mp3 of it:

It's so good!!! Listen to it. It's exactly why some of us have been hoping for years for this interview to happen.

The Rolling Stone interview and the CBC interview are practically identical because Trey's publicist sent talking points that the interviewer hit and Trey had stories prepared for exactly those talking points. Then Maron mentions the publicists talking points in the intro and literally say, "I don't if we talked about any of that, but we TALKED."

Fuck yes. It's a great conversation. Seriously, the best and most honest and complete, and non-publicist influenced, interview with Trey ever.

Just finished it up. Such a great conversation!!!

My favorite would be his Mayer filling in for Jerry comment... "Just because you play with Noel Redding doesn't make you Jimi Hendrix".
