My girl lived in portland for a couple of years with her best friend, and her best friend used to date one of the members of the Decemberists. I had never heard of them until one night when they were going to be on Conan or Letterman, she told me about her friend and said we had to watch it, I was glad I agreed.

I preordered when they announced the limited autographed copies, and my order number is low enough that either the cd or the lp i ordered should be autographed. Hope so, anyway. Fingers crossed.

Either way, it's awesome.

Just bought it from iTunes, gonna spin it on my way into work...

Probably give it a few spins before I decide to buy the vinyl.

So far, so good - I got a good 30 minutes into the album.  Nothing as melodic or fun as the highlights on Crane Wife, but very conceptual and heady.

Truthfully, i think it's amazing. It's hard to compare it to the Crane Wife, it's more like the Tain in that it's hard to break it into parts without listening to the whole thing. I can't wait to hear it live.

On that note, they are premiering it live tonight on NPR, from SXSW. Not sure of the time.
