That's very kind of you!
I'm sure you'd have more substantial thoughts and insight on Phish in real life instead of here on the internet.

I'd like to think so. I do enough critical discussion of music in my real life. My entire intention for visiting week4paug was pretty much to discuss how awesome Phish is. I spend enough time defending them to the music snobs I associate with in real life. Personally spending my time on here criticizing Phish seems to be fruitless. I'm personally more inclined to fluff with Scott and George. I've said it before and I'll say it again this place is a refuge for me. One of these years I'll learn that I don't have any valuable criticisms to add here and stop posting in these threads all together. Then what will I do? Engage people in the real world?

Clearly it's all awful.

I haven't heard a nye show prior to 1994, but after dissecting this one, it wins at being the worst of the ones I've heard

Also, 98 beats 97 by a mile in my book.

But, I don't think our fans do happily lap it up, I think they go online and talk about how it was a bad show.

12/30/03 second set had some of the most cringe-worthy moments I've ever witnessed first hand. There you have it my best attempt at adding to the discussion.
Clearly it's all awful.

Agreed on both.
Aside from the Weekapaug, '97 doesn't do much for me.
Check that Maze for lack of ideas.

I was waiting for a NYE poll. 98 would definitely be very close to the top

Those first two sets are so solid.
But, this was back when Mike's, Ghost and Tweezer were still about making statements.

I will say that the "gag" for '98 was bunk.
Pyrotechnics?
I guess the real gag was the 1999 opener with the dancers.
That's how you start a show!

Totally. That 1999 couldn't have been a more perfect choice.

Care to elaborate on the 98 gag? Im not familiar/forgot...

After thinking about the topic a bit, I sort of see where some people are coming from.  Although a discussion is always going to include criticism of a show if deemed necessary, there is no need to post the same criticism multiple times in the thread.
I blame my actions on having 2 moe. shows to transfer yesterday because I forgot my SD card reader at home when I went to ME.
Carry on your fluffing and I'll only post one hateful comment per show in the summer ;)
I don't think I offended anyone but my apologies if I did.

It's funny when people say that "you had to be there".
I've done a bunch of NYE at MSG and no energy in that room is gonna make this show (or run) sound good.

on the other hand, I wasn't at any of them. I'll take it on faith that everyone there had a great time, and have no problem with that.
When I listen to a show like 12/31/95 or 98 (or 93 or 94), you can't help but dance around. you didn't have to be there to get it, although I'm sure it would have been that much better if I was.

as an aside, I've been to more than one show that I love when I was there, heard it a couple times on playback, and won't listen to again.
