Holy shit Trey's done it again. Everything's Right is those .same. .exact. .chords. that I constantly rag on him for.  I > b7 >IV.  I don't understand how he's getting away this this incredibly obvious repetition of basic 'rock progressions' -- This song is even more harmonically basic than "More", which... that's just impressive.

Dysfunction and itemized lists of people's failures are where it's at.

So if we're in the key of A, it would be A -> G -> D.  Although Scott maybe you can better explain why this isn't just considered D major?  Is it because A is the starting point and considered the tonic?

In the example you just explained -- the key would be 'A Mixolydian'...... if it were A Major, a G# would be involved insetead of 'G' (which is the flattened-7th of A major)

A is the 'tonic chord' --  G is the 'flat7' chord --- and D is the IV chord (of A major) --- everything ultimately 'pulls towards A'  --- you are correct that 'A Mixolydian' uses the same notes as 'D major' however, it's the usage of the scale that makes it 'in A' -- not just because it's the first chord. Everything ultimately 'settles' on A.

"Everything's Right" is actually in the key of B Mixolydian, so the chords are B > A > E...

Fun show.  Everything's Right was solid, interesting lyrics by Trey.  Late nights in his NYC apartment, taking it day by day.  NMINML features another solid jam, dig Page's new synth sounds.  Love is What We Are is refreshing.  Love the Phish reggae.

exactly 1 week later, umphrey's mcgee was to play northerly island.  they didn't open the lawn and live nation was selling $20 tickets at the phish shows.  we had a pretty stormy night here in chicago and the entire show was cancelled/postponed!  what a difference a few days makes!

Northerly is literally the worst. The shitty lawn mixed with constant storm cancellations make it such a bad venue.

I would agree with this except for how fucking great it is. I mean I love that place.
I've been coming to where I am from the get go
Find that I can groove with the beat when I let go
So put your worries on hold
Get up and groove with the rhythm in your soul

this venue kicks ass.  shakedown is a few steps from the beach, where the lake views are amazing.  inside the venue the city views are pretty sweet.  getting up on those bleachers provide some excellent sight lines.  the weather is usually a bit cooler than the surrounding areas because of the lake too.

rain blows, but it blows at a lot of shows.

and i'm not familiar with this lawn you speak of.
