Well I just got through listening to the 9/9 show (charlottesville) and it's pretty good. Considering how quick this guy had to get on board, I'm actually very impressed. If he doesn't have other plans (probably does) they should keep this guitar player.

I don't know much about George McConnell but, if he wasnt good enough for WSP, (who've bored me since the mid 90s) then I doubt he'll be good enough for me.  :-P

alright.
well, lets see...
i really dont no how to describe this show, but i'll try.
i drove up from lincoln alone, and after grabbing my tickets from will call, realized quickly this was a "summer concert series" crowd... ended up having to stand next to the ticket stand --where there were plenty left for this 750person venue-- to give away my $40ticket
to some yuppie- if i tried to find a 'kid' to give it to, i wouldnt of gotten rid of it.

so, the opener, which i was still outside the gate trying to give away my ticket for most of, was "one mirror to many"- funny it was probably the one song they played that i wanted to see bad, and i missed half of it-- love that song... anyway, i walked straight up to the front left about 10 ft left of center right in front of the stacks>>damn! the left side of my head hurts today!! THen, sting me... OK! time to get a drink already-- fine! :lol:well, this is where the night took a turn, when i realized that even though we were at a f--ing casino--(thoughts of mixed drinks on the house) the alcohol selection for the night was cheap LITe beer in a can, bacardi RAZ, or... wine...well needless to say i ordered a tall plastic cup of whatver REDgrapeschwill they had and i was back to the crowd in the chilly 50 degree weather... THEn Hotel illness-- well this song i like, but having heard just heard it at red rocks and knowing this song could either mean a 'greatest hits' night OR an original set night, i started to scrutinize the new guitarist and keyman... well, the bottom line is that the keyboardist is fine and really even though i loved ED as long as this guy can play a hammond with minimal skill, the keys dont really matter in this band, and never did...
NOW Mr fords replacement on the other hand...well...ill get to more of that in a sec.
SUnflower was actually fairly hot... then the balld>wiser time was again a repeat from red rocks, and nowhere near as inspired--also completely lost on the LAME crowd in attendence in their lawn chairs-- except for the two super annying teenage girls that decided to move next to me and ask if i was an asshole, because they where apparently standing next to assholes before, and then proceeded to break into screaming the lyrics of wiser time... wow, i really dont like red wine i think... :|
anyway, it was now i realized that being in thefront for this show really was pointless, as there were about 1% true fans there anyway, and the energy was flat as hell... but "train to cry"(another repeat!) put me in dead show zone and i was off and dancin like a hippie kid from 15 yrs ago... this song was perfect to make all the crowd waiting for hard to handle go: " What the Fuck is thissh--??"
so in my mind the show sorta went in a good direction from there-playing wise-- then Polly... i'm not sure which song is polly and which song is 'share my blanket, but the one thats hard core funky was hot...i think thats polly... :,,, soull singing(repeat!!!) was excellent, better than red rocks actually... thornin my pride--predictable- and the perfect bathroom break song-- i told the guy in line with me that including the drum solo i was timing my break to make it through the line and i did!
"you got to hide your love away" -- great suprise, i didnt know they played it--really fun...definitely not a greatest hits show at this point...by your side> wow, a song that should have never been written, but not unbearable here... then the other kick down and the other song i wanted to see--sometimes salvation>black crowes hotness>though w/out marc it just isnt the same......remedy>>argh! i might never gop to a crowes show again unless theyt stop playing this f-ing song!! silver threads kickdown encore was great but the crowd just didnt get it, and on the way out i overhear a guy saying: " you know i pay the $ to come see them i expect to hear the songs i know"... this is the problem with the crowes...they play the fence on whether to go completely original and unique, or to cater to the "greatest hits" crowd... pretty soon they wont have either crowd if they dont go in one direction or another......

well i have to take abreak, but i'll post again in referenceto the new guitarist

alright i know there was another thread about the DL series available now, but i couldnt find it, and i had to make a post once i noticed this show had appeared in their archives.

this show is one of the best they ever played, IMO and i'm freakin a stoked b/c the audiences sucked.

this is a no brainer for me.
if you like the crowes this is a MUST HAVE.

...just noticed that 96 is being seeded again @etree... they are almost through the fall already, but most recntly seeded is oct. i think with nov. coming up.
FALL 96 is more than likely their best tour ever, IMO, so if you are interested, i'd grab as much as possible of what is currently being seeded.

this is not true --- paul stacey took over after marc ford left on a temporary basis, and then luther dickinson, of NMAS fame, has joined the band and resumed guitar duty

Dude, I don't have any idea (without looking) what the context of that message was. It was posted 2 years ago.
I know we've covered Luther being in the band more recently than that.

try and get to the end of a thread before replying.
