I'm going to agree with Jedi here and throw my hat in the over-rated category.  I bought 4/5 in a shop, and while I do listen to it from time to time, it is because I enjoy the setlist (sans Caspian) rather than any version of any composition that gets played - that and the sound quality is class.

I've heard 4/2 and 4/4 maybe once or twice, and haven't even sought them out to archive.  4/3 is the other show I've heard several times (for the Reba) and I walk away less than enthused (including the Reba - sorry Slim...glad you like it though!).

But, I do love the concept of these releases.  You know, releasing whole tours at a clip?   :-P

best tube = 12/29/97
no discussion allowed

very true, however the hersey 2000 or dayton 1997 maybe the runner up

mattstick

I like both those better than 12/29/97... but that's just the way I roll...

August

i feel that the SBD's really take away from this run.

as for the shows that also circ as AUD and SBD, it's AUD for me EVERY TIME!
matt
do you prefer the 12-7-97 board over the AUD?
a

mattstick

YES.

I like my bottom end to be defined, not just a big blob of sound.

i used to love sbds and tolerate auds if i had to... but lately i've really grown to appreciate auds. sometimes the crowd noise adds more than the clarity of a sbd ever could

good point....
hey MATT..........over here!
cant you appreciate the fact that it is harder to make a good AUD recording than a SBD, where you can mix each track individually after the show?
say yes.
a

mattstick

What?

Trust me, it's harder to setup and run an entire PA for a stadium, then run a multitrack or 2-track mix to a multitrack recorder, computer or DAT than it is to setup your gear in the tapers section.

No disrespect to tapers, but they're mostly amateurs while the guys creating the SBDs are pros.

Is it harder to get a hit in T-Ball or Major League Baseball?

gainesvillegreen

I'm with you Matt.  Once I get my hands on a SBD of a show I had previously in AUD, the AUD discs strangely find their way under whatever Guinness I happen to be drinking at the time

No disrespect to tapers though!  There are some kick ass AUD's out there (cough...Hillwig...cough).

Which reminds me, we were talking about April '98 right?
