Quote from: phil on June 28, 2024, 01:00:13 PMHad a wonderful relaxing weekend at Red Wing Roots music festival last weekend.

I've been going for about 7 years now, and it's actually where my wife and I started dating 6 years ago so to be going back now with a baby on the way felt really surreal. Hands down the chillest festival around, in the most amazing location. Kurt Vile and Bonny Light Horseman were the headliners, and festival hosts the Steel Wheels always bring the heat themselves as well as put together a killer lineup (heavy on the bluegrass). Highlights were Margo Cilker, Sam Burchfield & the Scoundrels, Myron Elkins, and Tray Wellington, but pretty much every act I saw was awesome.

Can't fucking wait for next year to have little wee Phil jr along for the ride!

I saw the lineup for that fest over the weekend, while it was happening, as was a little pissed I didn't know about it. Lots of great acts and the site looks beautiful.

Also, I saw Trey with the National Symphony Orchestra last week.
It was fucking great.
I got there early, as it's quite close to the office I go to once a week, and listened to the entire afternoon rehearsal.
Then I enjoyed the show from great seats with Crazy Dave. Modi was just behind us and Blat was also in the house.

Saw Trey with the Boston Pops at Tanglewood on Saturday with  :sbw:  and a bunch of the Boston crew (including my wife).  Same setlist as the show with the NSO that RJ caught.

Even though we were on the lawn and it rained for most of the show, we had a blast and the performance was great.  It got a little dusty for me during WTU...I thought it was just gorgeous.  Also, getting to see The Inlaw Josie Wales with my wife was special, as that is what I walked down the aisle to at our wedding (she came down the aisle to Little Martha).

A Place to Bury Strangers

It was LOUD and the novelty wore off after 20 minutes or so. On the upside: me and my best mate ran into an old friend during the show. Beers were had, and we had a lot of fun mocking the proceedings.

Buffalo Budd

Took my daughter to her first large scale show on Friday.
She was not amused by the hammered ladies in our initial area so I was able to navigate her to a decent spot about 25 rows back during the lightning delay with tons of room. She claimed it was the best night of her life. Tears of joy, singing at the top of her lungs and it was one of those dad moments I will never forget.
Noah Kahan is a gifted songwriter for sure and the band was solid.
Speaks to the timelessness and incredible beauty of the Grateful Dead's music

Dead and Co sucks but if it brings in beautiful women who might let me toss in the Boise 83 Franklins or the Hampton 81 Let it grow, I'm all for it.

Feeling pretty good about my decision a few months ago not to buy Jane's Addiction tickets for San Francisco in october.

In other reunion news, caught Soul Coughing at the Fillmore. Great show. Nothing surprising, but they played the hell out of those songs. Last saw them at the Fillmore in '97.

Those guys are from my town (originally). I sat right behind Oliver's parents at a recent Bob Dylan show.

Seriously jealous about Soul Coughing! The Jane thing escalated quickly. Hardly surprising.
