Am I the only one that finds this to be the most sterile of the first 4?

Maybe. But it's definitely the most cohesive.
"I used to be 'with it', but then they changed what 'it' was and now what I'm with isn't 'it' and what's 'it' seems weird and scary to me"

You haven't lived until you've had a robot shart in your ear and followed along in the live setlist thread while it happens.

The vinyl release or the recording in general?

But, I don't think our fans do happily lap it up, I think they go online and talk about how it was a bad show.

Yep!
Yes, the album sounds like a reverb and studio no limit party and the LP sounds just like the DAT it was transferred from.
Just sounds to me like the CD I had in '93, but now I'm playing it on a better system.

It's an upgrade!

I noticed it lacked warmth, but its not really a warm album.
Its a cold, blue, sterile album.
Phish albums sound their color.

Yes, I'm not alone!

I frequently "hear" albums in the color of their art/cover and Rift is a huge one for this phenomenon (others, Nevermind = also blue, Alice in Chains - Dirt = orange, Pink Floyd - DSOTM = black)

Personally I've always liked the production of Rift, it's definitely more professional sounding than the earlier albums which I suppose could be interpreted as more "sterile" but I never felt that way.  To me it just sounds like they paid attention to the sound and got what they were going for.

As for the vinyl haven't A/B'd it with the CD, but it definitely lacks the analog warmth and "wow" factor of the RSD Lawn Boy which is pretty freaking amazing.

Grabbed the new Decemberists EP at the show last night. Can't wait to give it a spin later.

You're entitled to your opinion but I'm going to laugh at it.

Got this book from the library - fun, easy read about 78 collectors which delves a little bit into the collector mentality...

Multibeast12

Have any of you guys here checked out that Dust and Grooves book?

I did an Instagram vinyl "challenge" last month that was loads of fun.
Basically, a dude assigned each day of the month a theme (R band, UK band, fave Autumn album) and we posted pics of our records for each day.
Cool way to see other's collections and their interpretations of each day.
Would you guys be interested in a similar "challenge" for paugers?
I could whip up a list of themes for October and those that play along can take control of subsequent months.
What do you guys think?!
