Is the RV just gonna be there? Or do you/we pick it up somewhere??
I'm a little confused, and that seems expensive
It will be there ready and waiting for you when you arrive. It's hardwired for power so no running the generator. they even empty and refill the tanks once per weekend.
I prefer the shitters to be overflowing for the full festival experience

Just planting my shit flag at the top of shit mountain
I remember walking out of Magnaball Saturday(?) night and the entire network of site bathrooms were down due to a pump problem or something, and the portashitters were all full after the long day. Nasty stuff.
PG I bet you can squeeze more than 4 in that RV.
Jeez, you write a handful of letters to phish inc 20 years ago about the lack of snacks at Clifford Ball and they won't let you forget.

It is about double what you would pay to rent an RV for that amount of time, but you avoid the worst part of renting an RV, which is driving it and having to clean it/dump it/return it. It's a premium for sure but renting and driving an RV is a fucking pain. You also limit your chance of ripping the AC unit off the roof when you got to pick up your friends at a hotel and the lobby roof has low clearance :| That was a bummer.

Was just going to say, we rented an RV for Lockn and it was only $1000.
In my mind I'm already there.
What's up with Glen Close? Is it just ... closer? Why so much pricier?
So let's say you have an RV full of people. The Glen Close RV thing comes with two person passes. If you have, like, two extra people, they have to buy additional Glen Close weekend passes for $425 ... so that's $175 more than regular just to sleep in the RV you already paid Glen Close prices to park there? I'm confused.
Remember that time Phish held a festival in California? Those were the days...

Yes it's closer, and 'secure'.. i.e random wooks cant walk through your camp site
And you also have better shitters and showers
See you there boys.
Heavily considering splitting the RV or tent options. Comfort is king. Either way I'm there though!

Oh I am so in and so excited.
Michelle and I are trying to avoid renting a car, does anyone know if there's airport shuttles or something? And I kinda forget how it worked last time.... if we don't have a car, we can still just carry our shit and camp by whereever you delinquents are, right?
Oh wait.... all of our camping shit.... damn, maybe I need to rent a car?
I'm flying into Ithaca. Hoping Yannick will pick me up in the RV.
Nothing says "You're almost to mid-life and haven't made it yet" like not being able to chip in on a 5k RV rental for a Phish festival.

honestly, the $5k isn't that bad. that's right about what 3 nights at a luxury tent in Africa costs... no :phish: included, but at that price you usually get all meals, drinks, and laundry, as well as an en-suite bathroom. and a butler. and a shitload of animals.
hit me up if any of you loaded w00ks would prefer that instead.

Seriously, we went out in a tiny little wooden boat to check them out while in Ethiopia.
This guy was one of about 4 right next to us.
They could have easily flipped it and made a meal out of us.

It kinda "Sold Out"
They posted online said it was "Sold Out" and people to not come if they didnt have a ticket already. But really if you showed up they sold you a ticket as long as other people in the car had one....so it was like they wanted to cap it but didnt shut anyone out if you went against their request to not come

Maybe it's been mentioned here already, but, some people I know (whom I do not trust in this regard) are convinced that the Curveball is going to have to do with band members side projects.
Supposedly, like an Oyster head reunion or some shit.
Fwiw, I think this is a terrible idea, unless they have side project band members rotating on and off the stage during an epic 4th set jam session.

Have you ever heard of extra innings? Also, as far as that side project stuff, I suggest you stick to getting your info from the Paug dude. If someone honestly thinks Phish is going to use their own festival for an Oysterhead reunion, they're on bath salts.

Allow me to get on my soapbox...
I've decided to skip Curveball and cancel all pending trips to the USA. I can't imagine crossing the border under the current US administration - I'm going to "Buy Canadian" and travel in Canada for the foreseeable future.
Phish management was super cool and refunded my ticket purchase.
It was a really difficult decision, and I'm bummed.

ETA... I've worked with FGT wristbands for years at acl fest. The email you got has a link to register your wristband... my advice is DO THAT ASAP. It is totally worth it.
Once it is registered to your name they can take care of you if anything happens... like you lose it or whatever. They're actually really helpful as long as you register because they can shut your old one down and render it useless and issue a new one.

yeah... sure, like that hasnt been going on in america in one form or another for the last 200 years.
Still not seeing why that is stopping any normal person from going to a phish show.
Letting american politics dictate your own enjoyment of life is pretty pointless since it is a schizophrenic institution at best that can completely do a 180 in terms of policy over night with each election.

You know... the whole 'no for-ners in ma' cuntry' attitude that he and all of his followers have. 'merica first, buddy! :shakehead:
yeah... sure, like that hasnt been going on in america in one form or another for the last 200 years.
Still not seeing why that is stopping any normal person from going to a phish show.
Letting american politics dictate your own enjoyment of life is pretty pointless since it is a schizophrenic institution at best that can completely do a 180 in terms of policy over night with each election.
Seriously, go see Phish.
If Jerry Garcia was playing in the worst place on earth i'd be there in heartbeat. fuck the world and its politics.
Music should transcend that shit.
Word. Phish doesn't support Trump and neither do the majority of Americans.

Yep. Just got the email that my stuff is shipping today. Should be wristband and RV pass.
ETA... I've worked with FGT wristbands for years at acl fest. The email you got has a link to register your wristband... my advice is DO THAT ASAP. It is totally worth it.
Once it is registered to your name they can take care of you if anything happens... like you lose it or whatever. They're actually really helpful as long as you register because they can shut your old one down and render it useless and issue a new one.
anyone have the link? The one in my email was broken.

Yeah, I guess I was wondering if anyone had been to Magnaball where they had the store set up as well and how it worked the last time. I could be wrong but I imagine it would be very similar.

Definitely lines early on, but IIRC it was open pretty much all day/night, and the store had copies of most of their vinyl releases. They had a few listening stations and definitely only let so many people in at a time. I don't remember if they had a limit on number of copies you could purchase at one time of the new releases, but I feel like they did. Maybe 4?
There was also a bag check to hold your stash until you picked it up, and I think they had mailers.
Wristband and camping pass now in hand.

Usually they're fine as long as you don't look super shady, like set up to vend unlicensed booze or some shit. They mean it when they say not to bring glass bottles onsite.

Totally bummed to be missing this fest. Originally it was the weekend my oldest got back from working in NM all summer, si I hadn't made any plans, but he was able to finish up a week early and got back late last night. So, plus is being able to see him for an extra week before he goes back to school, minus is missing the fest and catching up with paugers again this summer.

Friend of mine was supposed to be camping at Watkins Glen State Park through tomorrow night. He said it's been raining nonstop so he's been in a hotel instead. Lots of flooding and road closures. For those that have Wednesday entrance passes, good luck. I'm staying at the state park tomorrow night so I wonder how much fun that will be.

Really? At the venue site? That's weak. I have Sirius so it's not a huge deal but still....
Yup, good way to get 10,000 new people signed up for trials.
Quite lame. Of course this affects attendees the most, which is backwards. Did they just not feel like paying to take over someone else's spectrum for the weekend?
Or worse, they signed an exclusive contract with Sirius at the expense of festy attendees

I'm thinking this is exactly what went down. Supposed to be the regular Bunny scene on the air but onsite we're limited to whatever data service will provide...
Unfortunate.
I'd probably try and buy some hardware from Sirius/XM then return it after the festival.

Getting some conflicting reports - I think with the weather situation they may have changed their tune and contracted with a station for local FM broadcast. Makes sense, honestly.
There is hope
I just saw something via facetweets that it's on.

Hrmm....looks like we should get a break by concert time (at least Sat/Sun) but setting that place up now has to be rough.
QuoteFor those heading to Curveball: I saw this posted from another Phish FB group, original comes from PT...
-------------------------------
So I'm local and work in emergency services. Maybe I can put some of these rumors to rest.
The flooding IS bad. I've lived here 22 years and never seen anything on this scale. It's been raining since July and the ground and creeks are over saturated. WGI, however, isn't really in danger of any massive flooding geographically. They've gotten through countless races with severe weather, including a small tornado and torrential rains, before. They're pros at this. I do, however, think it's very likely that you're going to wind up with some very wet, saturated, soggy fields. Cars get stuck in the mud so regularly up there on a good summer(this hasn't been) that they keep tow trucks on hand to pull them out. So plan for that. If you've got a tent, I would consider something to put under it. I don't tent camp, so I can't be more specific. But I honestly don't see anything close to a complete wash out happening.
Around the area is a different story. Roads aren't just flooded; they're gone. A campground basically got swept away last night and many people were rescued by boats. A local trailer park is gone. People have lost pets, houses, possessions. Montour Falls, just down the hill, has been hit hard as has Watkins Glen and a little farther north. Emergency services are taxed to the breaking point and are to start operations up at WGI tomorrow. We are under a state of emergency. All the fire departments scheduled to provide fire and medical coverage this week are from hard hit places—these guys and girls have been up for days doing boat rescues, helping close roads, evacuations and pumping basements along with their regular fire and EMS coverage. They are all volunteer. Many have damage to their own homes. So when dealing with the locals, please just be kind and considerate. We all hope you have a great time and the weather clears for you; but we've had a shit week and are exhausted.
Wow. That's intense. I hope this works out for everyone involved.
^^^iI'll confirm that from my observations so far on site. WGI is on high ground—there are puddles and some mud of course but as long as the rain doesn't come back in force, we'll be fine. Just not quite as dry as 2011 & 2015.
I'm posting this from inside my tent in WET camping.

Yeah there was a drunk/coked our redneck amusing himself by screaming at the top of his lungs about white powder for a couple of hours already, around 2-3am. It was charming. Hopefully he runs out of drugs/money soon. I'm not looking to sleeper hold a stranger.

"The flooding was localized to small areas and mainly effected roadways. Just have fans be aware of the saturated ground in the camping areas. The water has receded to almost normal levels in the creeks, so travel should not be a problem."

QuoteBeers Of The World is back at Curveball and will be the place to fill your tank with The Alchemist's famed Heady Topper, Lawson's Sip Of Sunshine, Lost Nation's Mosaic IPA, Peak Organic Brewing Co's Sweet Tarts and many more.

@bunnyradio is live as of 9 am.
I'm rolling on it!
We got pulled over last night in Toledo, 3 blocks from our hotel, at about 3:00am. The cop who pulled us over said our tail lights were out/off. Mind you, we're driving a 2018 Expedition rental.
After he came back a second time, he asked us if he could search our car. We asked him why that was necessary, then 2 more squad cars pull up.
5 minutes later, there is a K9 sniffing around our car. After that, the driver of the car and front seat passenger are asked to step out of the car and are hand-cuffed, me and the other 2 people in the back step out, get patted down and have to stand behind the car with our hands behind our backs.
That's when Tait, who you all know, tells the original officer that he has a small amount of Marijuana in his bag. Cop pulls his bag out, searches it, and takes the weed.
They then put all 5 us in the back of 3 squads, so the officers can go through everything in the back. Obviously, at this point my feelings are that this is not going to end well at all. I knew my friend had at least 5g of blow, a quarter of weed (vacuumed), and another passenger had over 10 pills of E.
10 minutes later, cop comes and says we can exit the squad car, and I see my friend finishing putting a couple bags back into the rear of the car.
Long story short, we got a ticket for our rear lights being off, Tait didn't get a ticket for the weed because the cop said he was honest. Got to the hotel and hour later than expected and maybe lost a year or two of my life via stress, but we are currently getting the fuck out of OH asap.
See you fuckers later tonight.
Holy shit GBL, that would be harrowing.
Glad it all turned out ok.
HOLY SMOKES GBL! Wonder what would have happened if Tait didnt say he had some pot on him.

Dont most of us want it?
I don't know if selfish is the right word I was trying to use. I couldn't figure out how to say that I am very sad that the fest isn't happening, and there will be no shows, and that thousands of fans had paid big money to fly across the country and rent RV's, and used vacation days at work. And here I am at home almost more sad about not getting the SSP.
It's a horrible situation.
It would have been horrible if they called it earlier in the week, but having almost a full crowd on the grounds and then calling it is the worst.
Not up on dry goods yet

Seriously though....this sucks. But I know damn well if there is a group of people out there that can make the best out of a shitty situation, it's this group. Go see upstate New York. It's Gorges.

Damn, that sucks. I'm so sorry for everyone who's there, or was en route. This is the worst.
The #curveball IG posts are really depressing.
What an absolute bummer.
Sorry to all our friends that were planning on attending.

The emotions here...........
Dude! Holy shit! I just spent all day driving from coastal Maine to Montreal via Route 2 through Vermont, the islands of Lake Champlain and a large part of upstate NY. We drove past Goddard today, listened to Esther as we combed the Onion River near Plainsfield. Saw Plattsburgh signs, just Phish history everywhere today. To see and hear about this is beyond shocking.
I feel for all of you. This group is certainly among the wisest, mature I've known. We all know change can happen at an instant. Keep your heads up. Think of the positive. Perhaps they'll reconsider Loring for future fests?
My son was asking me what the lyrics to Esther meant? Sometimes the eerie green deep takes many forms.
I was trying (and failing) to explain to my in-laws at dinner why I was so upset that "a concert" I wasn't even going to got cancelled. It's just brutal for everyone involved. My heart goes out to all our friends here and everyone else who was in/on their way.
I can only imagine how the band members must feel. ...to disappoint so many....they must be sick about the outcome.

Almost back to rv rental place. Got to visit Scranton at least. Going to be a big 14 hour loop from NYC and on plane back to pdx tomorrow night. If anyone wants to hang in Brooklyn tomorrow hit me up. :snakehead:
JRAD just teased the fuck out of Wilson. Crowd chanting along and all. Small consolation obvs but it brought a smile to my face.
Man.... not sure how to feel.

Very mixed emotions. Not an anticlimax, because we didn't get nearly that close. Frustrated anticipation for sure—I barely saw paug people, and none of the my other Phish friends. That's the worst part of this.

I'm sorry to miss Phish but, I've missed Phish before (generally my own fault). I'm most sorry about not spending this weekend with you fine (ha!) folks.
I did have a nice time cruising america in an RV with Modi, RJ (of HFPod) and a couple of his DC friends who are wonderful people. We camped Thursday with some other folks we know from the internet before heading south. I've had worse weekends but I've never before had a great weekend that also carried such a weight of disappointment.
You fuckers had better come to Hampton.
That being said, there's a great blog post on Phish.net today:

I've been trying to think of anything that felt like this before and the closest I can come is when the Dead had to cancel the second night of Deer Creek '95. But even that is nothing compared to the scope of this cancellation. A single show after getting one is nowhere near as tragic as canceling a Festival on the day it starts. I couldn't even imagine how I would be feeling right now if I had been there. I'm super bummed, and I was only going to be watching the sets on TV.

Fyrefest is the only thing I can think of that tops this in sheer amount of scope and sucktitude.
At least at Conventry the show went on (kinda).
All I know is that I'm not missing the next festival, wherever it may be. I was totally bummed to be missing this one, and was bummed to be missing the paug crew and other phriends after such a great time at Magnaball.
Here's hoping for a great take two.

I have to say I'm surprised and increasingly disappointed by the general silence from the band since Thursday. Marshall is tweeting and the president of WGI is giving interviews. I'm sure the band is still crushed but there are tens of thousands of people who'd like to hear from them. Have I missed something?
Band statements need to be coordinated with actual information. I expect a lot of overtime is being burned to sort out what will actually be done about refunds, etc. when those questions are answered, something will be said.

I don't need any kind of promises, refund info or any of that right now. Just some amount of communication would be nice. So it doesn't seem like the fest got cancelled and the principals simply disappeared.

It does feel like they should say something. I'm wondering if their lawyers aren't telling them to keep quiet until the insurance part is figured out.
footage of the band from this morning:
a make up festival is unrealistic. an event the size of curveball takes 18+ months to plan. there's no way they had another festival site even in remote consideration for any other event in the future as of a few days ago. they had a great working relationship with watkins glen and put every ounce of effort into curveball. i do think they got a bit screwed by the county and would not be surprised if they decide to never return to watkins. which pushes their next festival even farther into the future.
i don't think they owe us a festival. i think they'll put on another one when and where it's right.
i don't think they'll be doing 3 sets a night at dicks because this doesn't make things right. neither does a free barn couch tour.
you are talking about a band who doesn't ever really use social media, except for mike's weirdness. they've done dozens of 3 nights runs without saying as much as 1 single word to the audience. i don't expect them to get chatty now. and i'm sure management is telling them to keep quiet. people are hot right now and you don't want to fan the flames.
best thing they can do is play 3 bomb ass 2 set shows in denver and then come up with something for next summer that is uniquely cool and uniquely phish. i thought the baker's dozen was a lame idea and look how that turned out!
things will be good. just gotta give it time.
Mike has a hotline message out, btw.
Bare minimum they need to release refund details in the next couple days.
But yeah the suits are probably keeping them from issuing any additional statements, which is kinda lame but understandable given that millions of dollars are involved.

Disappointment is natural but I don't think there's any reason to get salty towards the band or their org. This was beyond them and they were also sad to see this go down.
In the interest of sharing information, here's a series of tweets from a guy I know who is relaying info from a reliable source (typos are his own):

Those second two hurt a bit. I hold no ill will towards the band, I know it wasn't their fault. It's just a state of mind and mood right now that most of us have not experienced before. So many 'What if's?' going around everyone's head right now.

When Tom posted that picture a tear fell from my eye.
If WGI nixed the tanker idea that's an interesting wrinkle. Stories I had read suggested there just wasn't enough time to pull that together. I do think, in hindsight, that the water aspect is a huge bit of exposure to leave in place. Do events like these also just count on the local electric utility for power, or do they have backup generators or some Plan B at all times? If I'm a festival organizer I probably line up tankers from the beginning from now on.
Note that those were National Guard tankers, not commercial water suppliers. As I understand it, bringing in commercial water supplies in sufficient volume was not a timely option.
As I understand it, had the water supply issue popped up Monday, or maybe Tuesday, they would have been able to shoehorn a solution that kept the Fest from cancelling. The water was clean until Thursday morning... there is just no way they could solve this in 12-24 hours. If it was feasible, it would have happened, no matter the cost. Phish would have thrown every penny into solving it in any feasible way. Shit, they paid thousands of dollars just to have helicopters hover over the grounds in the week leading up to the fest just to dry out the ground we'd be dancing on.
Also, every time this fucking image pops up in my FB feed I get pissed off - it's like salt in the wound. FUCK Lock'n. Just sayin'.

Quote
An Update for Curveball Ticket Holders
We're all still reeling from the effects of the Curveball cancellation, and we know you are as well. We understand the commitment one makes in attending an event like this: from the logistical planning, to the time taken off from work, to the significant expense incurred that cannot be recovered (beyond the cost of tickets — see below re: refunds). We deeply appreciate you, our fan community, for your understanding and for making the best of a difficult situation. We want to recognize artists, crew, vendors, volunteers and everyone who had been working on the festival, some for months in advance, to share their talents with you. Additionally, we want to send our appreciation and support to the people of Watkins Glen who welcomed us and are now themselves dealing with the effects of the flooding in their homes and businesses.
As the festival team continues to address the Curveball we've all been thrown, we want to update you on a few things that we're working on and we will send further details once they've been finalized.
Refunds: Everyone who purchased wristbands, vehicle passes, travel or rental packages via the official ticketing provider (Front Gate Tickets) will receive a full refund of ticket price, service fees and shipping automatically. Refunds will go back to the original buyer's credit card account. We appreciate your patience while we work through this process. Anyone who purchased on secondary markets or did person-to-person trades/sales should seek a refund at their point of purchase.
Dick's Webcasts: Starting tomorrow, all Curveball ticket holders will be able to redeem the code on their wristbands at livephish.com/redeem to watch the webcast of all three shows at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO over Labor Day Weekend.
Merchandise: The severe flooding in the region didn't only affect us. It wreaked havoc across a 14 county area. We will be a launching a Curveball merchandise store very soon and donating the proceeds to flood relief and recovery. The store will include Curveball t-shirts, LE posters and other items (including the Nalgene water bottles intended for our CurveWater program). Curveball ticket holders will have first access to the store once live.
That Lockn ad is just rude.

Curveball ticket holders will have first access to the store once live.
haha - 5-second rule!

Agree that the poster, and even the thought of some of the merch is kinda weird.
ETA: yeah, that Lock’n poster is a slap in the face, no?

anyone who is able to grab me an SSP and/or Pollock, I'd be forever appreciative!!
Was there specific mention of SS&P being available to Curveball ticket holders?
Seems to me they wouldn't want to donate that revenue stream seeing as it's not Curveball-specific.
It was not mentioned. Stairway to see when and where SSP will be available.

I'm guessing Dicks + DryGoods.
Maybe they will just donate money from the colored ones that were mentioned in JEMP record store ad, then regular black vinyl will be sold on DryGoods as usual.
Honestly don't care about color or prints... I just wanna listen to SS&P on my record player.
Soon.

are those things real?? NEIN!
SS&P, and specifically Mike's, is what really sank the hook for me (pun intended). my brother has a wristband and is going to Dick's, I hope I end up with that vinyl somehow, plus a second copy to gift to the right person somewhere down the line.

I remember walking down the raidroad tracks to get to Karma Music about five miles from my house and buying the CD the day it came out. I threw it in my Walkman for the walk home back down the tracks, packed my bat, and had one of the most enjoyable walks of my life!

It was the first new album of theirs I bought on its release day. I was still a relatively new fan and I can recall drinking with some friends that night and our little get together turned into a spontaneous SS&P listening party. Half a dozen young n00bs getting shitfaced and listening to Mike's on repeat! Good times! :rockout:

i kinda miss the days of going to the music store on the release days. that first listen was always amazing, and this release was no exception.
When SSP came out, I had just returned to the states from a year in Asia. I was at a Best Buy the minute they opened to grab it on my way to an early dentist appointment.
I remember having this realization the first time I heard the "Indians lying on dawn's highway breathing" segment that Jim Morrison was so filled with bullshit melodrama he sounded like a complete douchebag I could never take seriously... but Trey just sounded like a fucking tool... and a tool I can relate to. I'm a fucking tool.
And even in the depths of my acid days, I still just kinda dorked out on dumb shit. It was never that fucking deep mystical shit the Doors claimed to be after. Sure, it was internal and it affected me and changed my perspective on the world around me and all of that, but it was always a big cosmic joke. Life is just a bundle of joy. Surrender to the flow. David Bowie UB40. Boy Man God Shit.
The whole adventure is into absurdity not any kind of depth... and this segment of parroting, even mocking, Jim Morrison and his bullshit depth somehow crystalised the whole thing for me.
Plus, musically, this was a completely different band than the one I last saw at Clifford Ball... and I could not fucking wait to see them again. My next show was 12/29/97 - still one of my all-time favorites.
/old guy rant
OK, I know it's not right, but... I still snickered a little...

The no SSP bums me out. I really want it soon. And I don't really care for any of those items in the shop, except maybe the brown "killer acid" shirt.

That's what I feared. Well I guess I'll have to pay at least $20 or so over face on ebay or discogs then. My shop is so small he only ever get's one copy of the Phish stuff and there's a dude who get's there at 3-4 in the morning, 7-8 hours before the shop opens ever RSD and BFRSD.

Yeah, that's gotta hurt. I guess I can equate that to when Jerry passed away. The sting of us only doing the first night of Soldier Field that year has never left me. I was at the Penultimate show, but no the last one.

Looks like I got a $60 refund on my AMEX from Livephish.com that I shamefully didn't even notice.
FWIW I got 2+ emails about the consolation webcast of the Dicks shows, with a good code, and my refund for Curve hit my bank acct maybe 2 weeks ago. Also got paid for the shift I pulled thru Work Exchange Team. No complaints, other than the obvious.

I Love this story from Trey's solo show last night about Curveball plans...
QuoteCurveball was meant to have a "Mime Field." The guitarist describes the field as an alternative way to get from the stage to the camping site, where fans would have to navigate a short but treacherous field of mimes that would block their path with various silent movements. "Dude, I am not making this up," Anastasio assures the audience.
"So we hired 50 mimes," he continues through laughter. "I kid you not. And this is the best part of it: They were there, onsite, when it got canceled. I left, [drummer Jon] Fishman stayed and ended up just getting plastered with all these mimes. And he kept sending me all these pictures [of]...sad, unemployed mimes."
