Post by: Casey Lenahan on March 19, 2007, 05:53:52 PM
What is your favorite Claypool Project?

I'm going to have to say Primus.

oysterhead.
and the first year or so of frog brigade.

was never a primus fan, though i've seen a couple shows in the past few years. some good stuff, but too monotonous for me.

what i like best about les is les. his on-stage vibe is awesome. seems like a very cool guy.

I don't know I really liked the Buket of Bernies Brains, and this might be the weirdest part of Les, on stage he acts like we've all seen but the couple of festivals that I've worked where he's played he was suprisingly normal before and after the shows.  He just hung out by himself and maybe some people that came with them, band members or crew, and that was it he would just sit and watch the other bands and kept to himself.

IMO Les will never top this:

Although the Sausage and Oysterhead albums have their moments.

Primus. Seas of Cheese and Frizzle Fry are stellar.  Sausage was great. Holy Mackeral I liked also. Les plays drums on a few tracks on that album. Plus I think I got the disc for $5.99. Awakening is a fun tune. Charlie Hunter does a tune on that one also called Me & Chuck. I side with rowjimmy on the Oysterhead. I didn't get into BOBB or Frog Brigade.

+k for showing Les a little love.

Claypool.  All aspects of his suckfest, suck.  He is one of the best, ever.

He jams with Hendrix and Mozart.

Primus
Oysterhead
C2B3

My friend told me this story about when his cousin met Claypool at a festival.  They went up to him to give him a pound and when claypool held his fist out, he said "potato?!?!?"  That is all.

tehdead, the hallucinogenetics DVD is awesome, that was a great tour as well, with the entire frizzle fry album being played 2nd set.

Primus. Never saw his other bands live  :frustrated:

Come on, Les, Europe wants you. And the Dutch make excellent cheese (never eat it my self, I turn green when I touch the stuff).

I've been a Primus fan since junior high, so I guess I'll have to go with that.  I absolutely loved the Bucket Of Bernie Brains when they were an instrumental band.  Les has such a unique vocal approach that when he starts singing his personality dominates the entire sound of whatever band he's playing with, and to me it might as well be a Claypool solo act with hired musicians to back him.  I just wanted to hear the Bernie Brains jam out the evil funk.

I've been a big Primus fan since junior high as well. I think his best project is definately Primus, Frizzle Fry is just an amazing album, every single song there stays interesting no matter how many times you listen to it, and the album is just exploding with energy that's pretty rare to find in a studio album. Really top notch stuff.

I like the Oysterhead album, the shows less so (too much ambient noise making from trey), I think both the Live Frogs sets are worth checking out as well. Bernie Brains are...Ok, I like their jams much more then their songs.

Has anybody here heard his new album? I haven't been able to find it yet.

Don't get me wrong, Oysterhead was a new sound that i loved, but i am all about buckethead (paul gilbert of Mr. Big fame)  so Bucket of bernie brains instrumental is my favorite...but frog brigade was a good cover band!

Bump!

Duo De Twang, the band consisting of Les and Bryan Kehoe, is releasing an album called Four Foot Shack. After listening to this version of Jerry Was a Race Car Driver I am excited for this to come out, too bad that's not until February.

QuoteHow "deconstructed" can a group get? How about just one vocal, one bass, one guitar, and a basic beat supplied by stomping on a mini-tambourine-doohickey? That's exactly what everyone's favorite storyteller/narrator, Les Claypool, is incorporating in his new band, Duo de Twang. While Les is still pulling double duty with the Primus lads, he has also found the time to unite with his old buddy, Bryan Kehoe, who fans will recognize from several past Claypool projects, and also as one of the main actors from Les' hilarious jam band mockumentary, 'Electric Apricot: Quest for Festeroo.' But unlike Primus, DDT focuses more on the Americana/rootsy side of things - as heard throughout the band's debut recording Four Foot Shack, to be released via ATO Records on February 4th.

Wow awesome bump.  I like what they did with "race car driver", pretty cool and interested to see what else will be on this album.  New material at all or not I wonder.

I don't think I've ever been the same after seeing the Flying Frog Brigade cover Pink Floyd Animals at the Somerville Theater 20+ years ago.  Might need to check this out when they come to Boston...

Yep. When I saw them do Animals in late 2000, they fully stomped my head into pieces. Over the next two years, Frog Brigade shows became, I thought, less inspired. But presumably they're all fired up again. And this is something of a new band, too. I only wish the Remain in Light show was opening up in California, for some reason those punks are touring the entire country except the SF bay area. Argh!

Buried in the announcement was the note they will be covering Animals in its entirety at these shows!

Snagged my pre-sale tix for the Boston show earlier today. The Animals set they did last time they toured (still pumped to see, but would have liked to see another PF album).

Sean Lennon is a great guitar player, but I loved Enor! The Brigade won't be the same without him.

Saw the Frog Brigade last night.
Great show.
Recommended.
It was indeed slightly not the same without the oddness of Eenor, and sadder still, Skerik is out with an injury and is missing some number of shows. He was missed. And yet...
The band still smoked. Animals was wonderful.

Awesome. PCR and I are going in a couple weeks here in Boston. Super pumped.
