To clarify, I'm all for people posting their music and spreading tour dates. Had it bene in my geographic area, I would have listened to the tracks and possibly hit up a show.
I also don't believe in needing to lurk before posting on this board. Do people really feel that way? I lol at that too. Contrary to my sarcasm, post counts don't matter. If you have something to add, I don't really care how often or little you post.
I didn't like posting the same post three times in a row. As for not knowing which forum to choose, well, I would have looked at the choices and looked at On Some Other Tour and went in there and browsed and see if my post was fitting for that topic. It is clearly used for larger acts as well as smaller acts. I can't speak for anyone else but I know it is one of the first forums I go to (after the ISO forum).
Don't listen to the negativity. We have a lot of hate around here. I try to keep peace and spread positivity but it is not an easy task.

I'm a fan of Dustin's, so maybe I can shine a little bit of light on this. Yes, he definitely could have represented himself better with a proper title, but he was obviously just trying to have some fun and grab some attention, so no harm and his intentions were good. Dustin is always changing/adding new styles to his playing as well, and he's recently added the funk which is why he chose the title.
And yall bagging on him about playing the Walnut Room Pizzeria in Denver, did you even take 10 seconds to check the place out before judging or assuming he was playing at Papa John's or something? All big city music venues have places like this to try and separate themselves from just another music venue. This Walnut Room is a legitimate music venue that has live music going pretty much all evening, 7 days as week. I haven't said a word about the venues he's booking. I made a rookie of the year reference, and made a few other jokes. Personally, if you want my honest insight. I'll provide it.
1) His vocals are flat throughout most of that video, and he's not singing correctly. He's way nasally throughout that video.
2) He's not that good at looping, I think his syncopation needs a lot of work
3) the creativity with which he "layers" is severely lacking to me.
4) He's using a music/lyrics chart for an original tune, that's pretty fucking amateur in my book.
5) the lyrics are too hippie to me.
6) Getting louder is a 1 dimensional musical peak, and that is what he does for the peak of the "jam"

Sophist - Now that's legit criticism, and I apologize, for not rereading all that to assure what it was that you were bashing/hating on. I agree on his vocals on that song, which is why i said to watch that vid anywhere between the 5-10 minute market. Dustin is a good songwriter though, with over 200 original songs, so if that song doesn't do it for, dont base his entire catalog off that one song. As far as looping goes, I think he's very good at it because he's not overdoing it and everything he's putting out was played on the stage, no prerecorded material.

For realz though this place is the bomb. No other board can say the same. If you've been around that long, you should stick around and post, but we just had a 10 year anniversary, so I'm not so sure the late 90's is right.

1. I don't think most people on this board (if any) are more attracted to musicians with "dreadies and some headie apparel". Kind of a broad assumption on your part.
2. I'm not sure what his goals are, but with that many cover tunes in his setlists, I hope he isn't expecting to go super far. Cover tunes, sure they win over a crowd - but they're not going to get you much further than bars and frat parties. I'm saying this from personal experience, as I'm a musician who has been gigging since I was 15.
3. I'm not sure if you guys are planning on sticking around here, but if you are, take a look around and read some threads to get an idea of the personality of this board. It may seem kind of "cliquey" at first, but really we're all just sarcastic people with good and raw senses of humor. Oh yeah, and I'd say we all take music pretty seriously.

I guess my point was, that in the setlists you posted, there were FAR too many covers. That's all. Like I said, covers are good, but when your show is half or 3 quarters covers, well, you're really not promoting yourself as an artist.
Dustin has actually been doing the band thing longer than the solo acoustic act. He's just had no luck as far as finding and keeping band members due to other obligations. I always told him to move to a bigger city and he'd easily get picked up by a good band in need of a lead guitarist and singer. Here's an old youtube vid of one of his band projects.

Finding and maintaining a band is definitely the hardest part.
John D'earth once told me a few years ago that if you don't have the most badass motherfuckers (musicianship-wise) in your band, the chances of having any sort of success are slim to none. Every. single. musician. in the band has to be a badass.
Of course there are exceptions - I'm sure we can all name some groups that don't have great musicians in the lineup. But I'd say they fall into the slim-to-none category.
Again, just my 2 cents. I'm not in the business of shattering dreams, but it's best to be realistic about where you are in the music scene in relation to other musicians - even if someone has talent, I don't like seeing an artist pursue their dreams so long that they are 40, broke, and with nothing to show for their life other than a smattering of "tours" of bars and small venues across the country.

I agree. And Dustin plays some holes in the wall, and plays some very nice places as well. What most people don't know is that this upcoming "tour" was thrown together last minute because Dustin get busted for paraphernalia in South Dakota while on tour in September and has a court date on the 10-20. So he figured he might as well book some shows on the way out. His December tour should be more legit as far as venues go.

I responded that those places were Phish/Dead head venues and he was simply catering to the crowd, and that's not a typical show for him. Look at his setlists from his September tour, 90% originals, and quite a few shows are all originals. Can you still have fun???

We were actually pretty surprised to find out we were headlining -- the band before us (Swift Technique) seems to have a much bigger following in Philly.... but I guess this isn't Philly (thank god). My wife has been making us homemade dough for the past few months, except it keeps coming out kinda bland. She keeps changing the recipe, but hasn't quite found the right one yet.

A little of both, though when dough is made at home, it is usually the wife who does it, as she is the queen of the bread and baking dept. in our house.
The one variable in cooking home pizza dough that is hard to replicate is the humidity involved in proofing pizza doughs at pizzarias. Some have dedicated proofers for thier dough, while others leave it to the ambient humidity and heat in the commercial kitchen. Either way, hard to replicate at home.
The proofing of the dough is definitely the hardest thing. I once tried to set the dough in a metal mixing bowl suspended above a pot of boiling water to try to get some of that humidity, but it didn't do any good.

PIZZA DOUGH! The perfect companion to your funky festivities, in fall or any other season!
Your microwave will work pretty well as a proofer. Just put a decent sized bowl of water in there and set it for 10 min on high. Then (carefully) take the bowl out of the microwave and put your dough in. The little bit of extra heat and the leftover humidity will do the trick.
ETA: I forgot to mention this. Depending on the shape of your container, the water may actually boil without bubbling (all the water molecules can actually start to form one massive bubble at the bottom that's hard to see). If this happens, there's a good chance that you'll disturb it when picking it up and, needless to say, you'll end up in the burn ward. If you notice that it's not bubbling when it should be, stop, let it cool down, put a chopstick (or any other similar shaped wooden object) in the bowl/container, and start over. It will allow the water molecules to properly bubble.
