I'm in 100% for Greek and the Bowl. Have seen shows at Greek but never Phish. Definitely top 3 venue of mine, seeing Phish there is bucket list. As for the Bowl, I have never been - so bucket list again.

That Phish run at the Greek was sooooo much fun. I love that venue. I wish I could do a mid-week run but April is no good for me given that Jazzfest is like a week or two later.

I may get a wild hair and try and hit the Hollywood Bowl.

Well, after brief deliberation... Michelle and I may just have to do all these shows.

JPhishman has got a spot in Seattle.... We all should coordinate for Berkeley... and my bro just bought a house 9 miles from the Hollywood Bowl  :wtu:

For those going to the Hollywood bowl get seats in the middle.  Kuroda works wonders with the lights and its not as cool from the sides sections.

Did anyone put in for the lottery? The tiered pricing for Hollywood Bowl is insane. You could potentially get a 3-Day pass in the farthest section for $150... or you could get the closest section for nearly a whopping $500. Or a multitude of price brackets in between.

I've never seen that big of a discrepancy in prices for the same Phish show(s)

It kinda caught me off guard when I went to put in for tickets.  So much so that I only put in for one night.

I have no issue paying $500 for 3 nights if I'm sure to have good seats, but to have it be luck of the draw?  Naw.

If I got a lotto ticket for nosebleeds for all 3 nights I'd be upset.  Seems like a tone def setup to me

Hollywood Bowl Terrace Box secured all 3 nights - went with the complete travel package. The Loews hotel is a 15 min walk away, pro-move to check off a bucket list venue. And I think the Terrace boxes lend themselves to basking in Kuroda's bowl magic.

Spring is coming up roses.....

Napa -> Greek -> drive down the west coast -> Hollywood Bowl  :phish:  :pbjtime:

Scored Greek Tues/Weds x 2
Seattle 2 Day Floors x 3

Might have extras depending on how everything shakes out.

Booked at the Maxwell Staypineapple for Seattle which I recommend if anyone is looking for hotels and the Holiday Inn Express in Berkeley. Also have a rez at the Best Western in Berkeley I will probably cancel.

Sorry to hear that bro.The docs know what they are doing but it's a tough road, good luck.

As for the tour, I am in for Seattle for sure and was in for the Bowl but it just turned price prohibitive for me.  Got decent 3-day passes from lottery ($800, add in flights and minimum $1000 lodging, I'm out).  But Seattle is going to be 398 and 399 shows for me so gonna make midweek work trip to the Bay and catch my 400th at the Greek.  Been to every run there including TAB and GOTF so no sense missing now.  Will prob just do second two.  Stoked.  See y'all there.

Trey's "What are you doing?" Series that he's posting on social media has been awesome. In particular, I have really enjoyed the 2 sessions with the lighting guys talking about the new toys and everything that goes into it behind the scenes. It's honestly fascinating. 12/30/19 was the last Monday show, and 12/31/18 was before that, 10/31/16 before that and then 10/24/16 was the last "non-Nye/Halloween" show on a Monday.

I caught a good chunk of 4/17 set 2 on the Phish Sirius channel yesterday (4/18) afternoon. Mix sounded great. As of 11:40am Eastern, it still isn't up on lp.com, but 4/18 is. I sure as shit don't understand the technical details, but I can't believe the recording won't be available soon.

Interesting.  I wasn't even aware that was a thing.  I looked it up and the company was founded by the same Michael Tait that did the light shows for Yes back in the 70s.  Come a long way in 50 years.

I'm not sure exactly what happened, but there is a bit of what I thought was static during the Undermine jam that could have been the recording equipment blowing-out. It would be such a damned shame to not have one of the best 3.0 shows yet in pure SBD form. I have an mp3 stream rip, but it's not the same.

I haven't listened to all the shows so far this tour, but it seems like they have been on point with transitions for the most part. I'm excited to get to the bowl.

I really hope it gets resolved. I'd basically forgotten about this run until the 'paug started chatting about it, and then when it came on the radio the other day on Sirius, I could tell it was something special before I saw what was playing. And then it played for like 25 minutes before resolving into Tweezer and dissolving again.

So last night had its moments. Gin was pretty raging and there were some nice ambient jams in the second set.... But...

Can anyone confirm what I witnessed at the end of Kill Devil Falls...? I swear, I've never seen Trey more disinterested in a jam. There had to be a solid 3 minutes at the end of that jam where he didn't even play his guitar. He kept looking at the other guys, fiddling with pedals, yet no one noticed he was trying to stop. It was seriously weird, then led to them really f'n up the start of Fuego. I've seen Trey "give up" on jams plenty of times, but this was next level. He seemed upset! It really threw off my vibe for the rest of the show, albeit some good moments occurred afterwords.

Had a great time at the Greek overall but that specific jam really had me scratching my head!

So.. that's weird.
I didn't watch and have only listened but now I have to go back. I thought the KDF jam was decent, albeit not as long as I'd have enjoyed. Fuego's are never that well played so that didn't phase me and then the Fuego JAM is awesome.

I've wished KDF ended 3 minutes earlier every time they play it, but Trey hasn't agreed until now  >:D

weekday west coast shows means i'm playing behind.  been avoiding the chatter to have that no spoiler experience.  i did a proper couch tour of all 3 greek shows in the span of about 24 hours.  what a run!  my mind is officially melted.  will need to revisit all 3 very soon, but hollywood night one is on tap for today!  i like this phish right now!!

I haven't watched this KDF.  But at least Trey didn't walk off the stage while the other three guys were still playing.  Like Halloween '98.

It does seem like he might have been having some equipment issues - it looks like he stomps on a few pedals and tries a few notes, then at just before 1:37:00 on the video he kind of looks around the stage, then off to stage right and points at his board. I kind of dig the (short) dark atmospheric stuff that comes out of that though.

All in all, I thought this was a hell of a strong run. More interesting jamming than most of 2022 IMO.
Gotta mention that Bowie though - at about 10 seconds shorter than Mexico's, it's now taken it's place as the second shortest Bowie ever (that there's a complete recording of), after 4/24/87.

And Clifford Ball.  At least he said bye that time before storming offstage.

Which set was that, again? The first of the weekend?
Title: Re: Phish Spring Tour 2023
Post by: WhatstheUse? on April 24, 2023, 10:23:05 PM
Fair enough, equipment issues could have explained that. I haven't watched back.

All in all, quite the spring run, IMO. Bodes well for summer. Some clear duds along the way... kinda felt like they gave up halfway through last nights set... but also some clear attempts at jamming. Fishman sounds great. Mike is present in the mix again. Page is Page and Trey will be Trey (for better or for worse)

What I do know is that this band is still capable of greatness, nothing else compares. The new songs come and go as they always have... and the best of the bunch usually stick around for longer. I surely still prefer an "old skool" set like this past Saturday but I'm also happy to see them putting out new material and trying new things. I think these guys have plenty of years left in them to make phenomenal improvisational music.

Beyond the music itself, this run was a blast. All three venues rocked in different ways. Seattle was so updated, no lines, craft beers etc. the Greek is just Wild. Such a solid, communal vibe since you can literally see the smiles on everyone's faces without even turning around. (Yes, the line to get in was redic and tarping is getting out of hand but, whatever... sick venue) and lastly the Hollywood Bowl surprised me with how great the boxes were. Not your standard crowd but everyone was into it all weekend where we were. And tons of dancing space if your in the closer boxes.

Add to that, raging with GBL+Tait, SF+Sara, JPhishmam+Emily, and seeing so many other friends (Whatapiper, Cactusphan, Messick, Bobbafett + probably a few I'm forgetting) made for such an incredible run. Truly thankful for the good times had.

Oh yeah, and I met Fish again on Saturday! I think Superfreakie has some even better hang stories so I'll leave him to that.... Yeah phish!

Really fun tour.  Had so much fun.  Ran into Heath in Seattle and then SF in LA for a second but other than that, no paug hangs. But whole run was great.  Every show has something to offer.  I love the Hollywood Bowl.  Need been.  That place is the best!  Greek was great but line to get in and crowds were bananas.

I had a great time in Hollywood.  Nice to meet SF and Sara, good to see Emay and Wtu again.

Non-show highlight was the El Gato Night Market.  40+ food trucks in a giant parking lot.  We were the only 3 non-Latino people, the food was off the charts. Beef lip taco and coffee horchata was so freaking amazing.

N2 was probably the best musically to me.  The 2001>sally was probably my highlight of the weekend.
Oh and the Esther was probably the cleanest I've heard in years
The cities>tube from N3 was pretty damn good too.

I had a grand time at the Berkeley shows, despite the absurd line and tarp situation. (I guess technically I was part of the tarp problem on tuesday, when we had a group of nine. But we had four people in early manning the blanket... so that's almost one person saving only one seat each... which maybe isn't pure evil?) Found myself in line standing right in front of WTU on weds, so we got to hang out for awhile.

The shows were a lot of fun, had some ups and downs of course. I loved the Tweezer set, and the first set second night, and the second set third night. The jams definitely have a different feel, a certain kind of noisy repetition, and adventurousness, that doesn't always work out, but it's nice to hear them exploring in new directions.

I checked out the third Bowl show, loved the Cities especially. Otherwise have only listened to Melt from the other two, which continues that song's hot streak that started back in '18.

I assume there's good stuff from Seattle, too, but haven't gotten there yet.

I vote for more west coast tours. And really, even given the pain in the ass factor, the Berkeley Greek is such a great venue, and I love seeing Phish there. In October I'm going to Wilco at the Greek... and sitting in my assigned, non-GA seat. Won't that be pleasant.

I loved N1 Berkeley and N1 HB, but all in all everything came up Millhouse

Berkeley was definitely a shit show, but being GA there is literally nothing that can be done, just have to get early entry or be first in line, basically. As was mentioned, it really is a beautiful venue, and I am in love with NoCal

HB was awesome, which somehow surprised me?  other than the fact there is one bathroom and zero concessions on one side of the venue, place is pretty great.  LA is pretty disgusting, however

Solid solid run music wise. Bucket list run venue-wise. will hit every Hollywood Bowl show from now on. Great chillin with the Paug fam, been too long for some, let's do it again soon!
