OK - I am considering and being considered to do a radio show on JEMP Radio - Primarily Funk and Soul... if you follow my insta you know I have a ton of Funk and Soul on Vinyl... so, that's what I would love to play. 

Gonna need some DJ equipment. Basic and can feed into my Apple for editing and creating a large sound file to upload for JEMP to use. 

Need: 

Turntable (or two?)
CD Player. 
Headphones
Mic & radio arm
Mixer? Software? 

I don't know - mostly I need advice. I figure RJ would be a good place to start! Anyone else? 

A couple thoughts -

WaveLab is the best 2-track editing software.

Since you're producing a single file and not DJ'ing in real time you probably don't need multiple turntables. You'll want to run your table into a phono preamp, then into some kind of digital audio interface...

Check out the Tascam Mixcast 4, it's an audio interface with multiple inputs designed for what you're trying to do.

That could certainly work especially if you're trying to record the set in one shot. IF you want to transfer the tunes then drop in you announcements after the fact, a less expensive two channel interface would work. Tascam has something for that too, though there are plenty of comparable tools out there. Were it not for the LP sources I'd say get a USB mic and let 'er rip. But if you've gotta get a real interface, you may as well get a mic. No need for a fancy broadcast mic, tho. At least not at first. Get that SM58 and a desktop stand and go to town. Headphones? You can always spend more but You probably don't need to.

I use my AirPods for podcasting. I've got some inexpensive closed-back Tascam headphones for editing and home studio stuff.

The trickiest thing is the LP transfer. If you have a stand-alone Phono Pre or one built in to your table, you're in business. Otherwise you're gonna need some thing for that.

I have an Onkyo 2- channel amp that used to power my stereo in the days before mp3s existed. Today it just powers to old Cambridge Soundworks speakers with my mac desktop as its only input. It has a phono input I have used before for an unpowered turntable. I could use it's line-out for this purpose. I'd really like to record in real time like I used to when actually did radio. As long as the recording is all in separate channels, I could still go back and edit individual things, too, which is nice.

I think the Mixcast 4 would be sweet... but can the headphone ports be used as line-in ports from a CD player and TT? 

What is the make/model of your Onkyo 2-channel amp?

You could run your CD player and Turntable into the Onkyo, then connect the Tape Out via RCA from the Onkyo and put that into the unbalanced input on the Mixcast 4.

Then you're source selecting CD/vinyl on the Onkyo and you have 4 mic inputs / 4 headphone outputs for you and your podcast/show guests.

It's a mixer with a single line-in input and 4 mic-ins.

That line-in has unbalanced RCAs or can switch to a TRS 1/8" jack, running his LP/CD through the Onkyo and using it's remote or buttons is gonna be easier than toggling the line input source on the back.

What's the budget here?

HAHA - that's the golden question. I've gotta lobby my case a bit first and know I'm actually gonna do a show before I spend money. Alternatively, I could buy this shit, start recording my first few shows and use them as demos to get the show picked up - if they don't take me, I could just start podcasting my own show. 

Anyway - I would like to keep in around $1000 including a new "decent" turntable and a working CD player that doesn't suck... along with the mixer, mic, mic-stand, etc.

The mic inputs are mic/line and accept 1/4" so he could go RCA to 1/4" and connect a CD player directly to the Mixcast.

The problem is that those 4 inputs are really designed for mics only - the sound will be mono, even if its a line-in sound. That's not great.
