I am starting to get the itch for planning my winter snowboarding trip.  With a baby and friends with babies, I think my options are somewhat limited for this year.  I'm kind of done with the East Coast junk within driving distance of me.  The past 2 years we actually had good conditions for here but I'm not banking on it.  I would definitely think about getting to VT or ME, but driving is just too far.  I've done it, but not again.

I'm kind of looking for somewhere that I can either fly straight into, no car needed, and possibly something my wife can do during the day.  Telluride jumped out to me first, but I am sure there are others.

The other purpose of looking for something like this would be to maybe just do a guys trip, and flying in and out would allow us to minimize the days and maximize the ride time.

Does anyone know of such a place?

Jackson hole, any tahoe resort, and the salt lake city area all have airports bigger than telluride. I might be able to swing something this winter. I'd really love to do something in the Canadian Rockies, fernie perhaps
Paug FTMFW!

I'd vote for Tahoe... My old fat ass can't handle the altitude of the Rockies anymore. Plus Bird's sister is out there!

I like this idea.  My mom still says that Fernie was her all time fav out of all the places she's gone to but I have never made it.  Depending on the dates I would try and hit that if there was a Paug gathering, big or small.

That's not the trouble... It's going down hill and having to stop and catch my breath after every 3rd turn.

Just keep doing your laps in the pool and you'll be ready come ski season. :beers:

Whats the word on Whiteface?  It doesn't seem like there is anything at the mountain for lodging.  Almost like you need to stay in town, but maybe I am missing something.

Still happens to me on occasion and I live in Colorado.

You can fly into Steamboat and take a shuttle into town (20-30 minutes).  I have never skied Tahoe, but I hear nothing but good things.

Salt Lake i would suggest but thats cause i live there...best snow around tho. you got 7 major ski areas within 30 mins of the airport..plus salt lake has an easy airport. Im sure the airport runs shuttles that would shuttle you up to Alta or Snowbird and you could rent a room up there.....and if you ski id be more than happy to show you the pow.

CO and Jhole are nice but they are small ski towns. Salt Lake is a big city and would be a solid travel spot. Like i said 7 areas within 30 mins of a major airport, basically why we had the olympics here

FWIW, i just got back to the tetons/idaho after an extended break down south, and the snow isn't here yet.  yeah, the resorts are open, but everyone i talked to said it was sucky so far.  and prices of hotels, lift tickets, airfare to jackson hole is through the roof.  oh yeah, and the shuttle from the airport to JHMountain resort is $60.  redick.

Whiteface is pretty bunk dude.....It has some steeps, but they don't call it Iceface for nothing...I have had some good days there, but for the most part, it does not get enough snow and it is freezing.  It is the best mountain in NY, but that is not saying much.  You need to stay in Lake Placid, there is no trailside lodging or base lodging, but Placid does rule and is close enough that it is no big deal (but you need a car).  I would say Whiteface is good if you are going from somewhere in NY, but otherwise it is small and conditions are suspect....Unless you get $5 off your lift ticket with a Phish stub

If you go to Maine, Sunday River rules and has VERY inexpensive trailside lodging (Like $125 a night with a free lift ticket) and it is big and they get good snow.  No nightlife or shopping or anything though....T-ride is way expensive and a pain to get too....Utah is easy to fly to and good shuttles.  If you fly into SLC, you can get a cheap shuttle to Park City and there is a great town, three AWESOME resorts that you can pretty much walk to and guaranteed good conditions.....You can;t really compare those places to anywhere...You take lift to lift to lift to lift and ski down forever....Canyons rules, so does Park City....Whistler is awesome too, great slopside condos and no car needed, but you need a car to get there from Vancouver and while it is an easy drive for me, probably too far to come from the eastcoast...
