Quote from: emay on March 09, 2023, 08:29:13 PMI think Beyoncé, Garth brooks, and Bruce Springsteen (in some regions) have done that as well. Wonder if Phish HQ will join in or even care.

Bruce Springsteen did the exact opposite of this. Every seat in every venue of his current tour was sold using variable pricing. It pissed his old school fans off so much the fanzine Backstreets, which has been published since 1980, threw in the towel as an act of protest.

I was wondering why Backstreets stopped getting published.

I can't tell if you're being serious.

I was not. I knew of it back in the 90' but really didn't know it was still going.

You haven't lived until you've had a robot shart in your ear and followed along in the live setlist thread while it happens.

Oh yeah Bruce is one where he sells platinum and it backfired cuz it was so expensive haha. I remember seeing an article about how some cities there were tickets way under face at showtime. Can't remember the other big band that stopped doing platinum ticket sales

I got crazy good seats for Bruce in TO day of in the early 00s. Decent show but then he ends up coming to my hometown the next summer and all of my friends want me want to go obv. You can only handle so much of the boss.

which is weird, cause Springsteen used to do this

Quote from: mistercharlie on March 09, 2023, 08:39:38 PM He apparently doesn't even let the first two rows of seat be sold. He sends a team out to the very back, nose-bleed seats and finds fans to come sit down in those rows.

I know - I was sitting in the 3rd row (my wife got seats up front because of a TM screw up) and we saw the first 2 rows get filled up by people being dragged from the back. In fact everyone the 1st 5 rows or so had some kind of "story" - none were public sale. We didn't get our tix until right before the show, had to show ID, and get ushered in to prevent scalping.
I was very surprised at the Springsteen tix for the current tour.

So not so much a "have you heard about" as it is a "did you know", but I recently found out that the RIAA does not certify albums as gold or platinum and whatnot of their own volition.  So in other words, they won't inform a band saying, "Congratulations, your 2002 album such-and-such just passed the 1 million mark.  You now have a platinum album".  It's completely done only on request.  So essentially the band's management has to reach out to RIAA and pay a fee, saying "We want you to certify (or recertify) such-and-such album." And then the RIAA will have their auditors, accountants, etc go and do the research and tally all of the sales, production and whatnot.  It's a bit different with the streaming world, but still only done on request.  So there are a lot of bands out there that just don't seem to care.  Phish has not had an album certified since 2006.  Iron Maiden hasn't had an album certified since 1992.  Other bands do it every couple years.  Just thought that was interesting and makes the Platinum album designation seem....not worthless, but kinda less reliable, at least when they list albums in order.

And yes, it's a searchable database, so feel free to waste some time here:

Solar eclipse next year going to hit quite a few cities in the US.  I definitely do not want to miss out on this.

ETA: and on the 40th anniversary of that killer Ice, nonetheless.

Oh yeah I'm going, I decided that the second the eclipse in 2017 ended, which was incredible.

My buddy has family in Texas which should make it easier logistics-wise.

But, I don't think our fans do happily lap it up, I think they go online and talk about how it was a bad show.

Couple and dog killed by bear at Banff National Park

Our friends run in this area pretty frequently.
They'd best stock up on bear spray.
