First set 20 minutes longer than the second. It still looks pretty awesome.

troof. and I drunk me a buncha Scotch tonight. I feel good.
Still, I stand by my assessment. 48 hour rule be damned.

I thought it was only noted now when it doesn't happen.
That was a great show not because they played a game all night, but because they played 13 songs in 150 mins. Can't wait for a relisten.

Woah, they got those Dicks up fast... 8-)
I had a lot of fun tonight... considering buying the webcast the next two now even though I'm broke ;)
Fun as fuck with the setlist too, and well played... I think.
First set spells FUCK YOU../
Wow. This looks amazing.
Show was the best I'ce seen in 3.0... absolutely off the hook.. fuck. You!! We can jam!! Fuck you face...
Best 1st set 3.0 and it ain't even close
Am I the only one...
I mean, i just saw that livephish track list. I mean, is anybody else crying from joy? I mean, a 20 minute Runaway Jim, and an 18 minute Chalkdust... i mean, it happened. It really happened.
I mean, guys, IT REALLY HAPPENED.
I JUST BOOKED FLIGHTS... my wife wants to kill me - she may settle for divorce instead of death, but either way.
Am I crazy?
since atlanta, chalkdust is turning into a jam machine.
I'm buying the show. Maybe they'll get the hint. We should ALL buy the show, and they'll be like "OMG jamming = $$$" because that would be fine with me.
Seriously, you guys don't even know what I felt when I saw that track length list. Like seriously, did that happen to anybody else? Like i seriously felt like i was going to have a heart attack; mad vertigo 'n shit. I mean that happened lol i feel like such a goof talking about it online now lol but my heart seriously dropped. God damnit lol
Going right to Carini, and then onwards. I'm SURE i'll be back with all sorts of enormity.
haha omg. hahahahahaha omg. hahaha omg guys hahaaaaaa.
Okay i'm done or else this is going to get silly.
OMG 6:46 in CARINI!!!! TREY MAJOR KEYD!!!!!!!! OMGZZZ
sorry guys. I'm trying so hard.
omg you guys dont even know yet. 8:30 in Carini. the Trey jam. omg. Seriously you guys.
Guys.
Real Trey is back. Listen to what they do with the end of Carini. Trey isolates, and builds, and stands upon.
one last thing, this is what it would sound like if 1.0 played KDF. Fish... his snare rolls. The tightness.... this fucking amazing. Its just so good... get into it guys. This is what we hoped for.
Is there a .gif for a "heptafecta"?
Yeah, great show.
/rant
So that looks like a real Phish show. I am excited as hell to give it a listen!!!
Fuck Your Face!
And I haven't skimmed through the LST yet, but did anybody mention that after spelling out FUCK YOUR FACE the encore was Grind Meatstick, like "I'm going to grind my Meatstick in your face"?

I once pulled a stunt like this. By the time I sobered up I was laying on a beach in Puerto Rico. Not a soul in the world knew where I'd disappeared to for 4 days. It was kind of cool.

I'm half tuning in tonight to see what PG will do next during this run!
For whatever reason, it was really hard for me to wrap my head around the second set..
Post-Farmhouse and Post-CDT were good jams.. Jim needed all 20 minutes that's for sure, took awhile to break through..
Gimmicks are gimmicky, but thankfully, there was a LOT more to this show
Show is good. Discussion is taco.
Just started up the show - even First Tube is a smokeshow!
I like Gumbo's idea that we should all buy this show as a way of "voting" for the kind of Phish we want to see.

Beside a couple mins in Carini and the smoking Undermind, the first set didn't do much for me while watching last night. The YEM is a mess iirc and Ocelot, KDF and Uncle Pen are all throwaways for me. First Tube was alright, but I haven't relistened yet.
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about the show, but I don't know that I'd be booking flights just yet.
But I'll fix the OP for your headaches. I hear Midol helps too

This has been my philosophy for a while. I buy SPAC3 and Star Lake and UIC '94 and just about every webcast. It's how I give the band direct feedback of what I want. The free market wins again!

FYI - I was seriously going to pull the trigger if you wanted to split a room..
I'm taking this as a sign.
Maybe I've listened to Hampton 97 too many times, but I was kind of bummed when emotional rescue didn't get the treatment.
Cool show. Unlike SanFran 3, where the 2nd set had a good start and weaker finish, for me last night was kind of up and down throughout. But . . . yeah . . . those up parts were good. There's a package deal on the next 2 nights' webcasts. I'm in.
All I have to say is, I am very jealous of everyone that attended this show, and for some reason, I always seem to miss those shows.
Oh well.
Glad there were more than just a couple highlights. Looking forward to sinking my teeth into this one today.
Fuck yes. Thank you Phish.
Even this Undermind is sick. I started there to ride the rest of the show that I missed out.
Face has been fucked.......by dicks haha. After Carini first set and the ft opener I knew it was gonna be a unique show, didn't realize it would be this unique. Sometime around yem ocelot was when the fuckyourface rumor was goin around. I tried not to really pay attention to all the song selections/jamming and just danced my ass off all night cause I didn't wanna jinx it. The night flowed and everything was stretched. Runaway Jim and chalk dust; holy great beard of Zeus!
:rockout:
amazing show and some amazing jams. those that were there i envy you!
Good Lord. Trey and Mike from like 12:05 - 13:55 in Chalkdust Torture reminds me of the old days.
ETA: That theme is so money...
Set break
Tate Dogg
RIGHT??? Isn't this show amazing???
Dude even KDF is solid as fuck. I hate that they make me say that. But its the truth.
Undermind... is incredible. That shit circles, and elevates, and glory. Carini is VERY VERY cool. The equivalent, imo, of shit like the ALO Tweezer but for 3.0. By that I mean, they are pushing themselves to lock onto something, be it a rythmic motif, or melody, and when Fish gets weird with the drums and then Trey stands on him and actually comes up with something.... THAT is jamming.
But I bet you they did this so that they could sell webcasts. Even so, I don't care. Once they figure out that when they jam, we buy shit, well... its good for everybody.
Emotional Rescue I don't think will be jammed until they play it a few more times. The last time played it wasn't jammed (9/30/00) unless theres a 2.0 version, but i don't think there is.
YEM is pretty tight too.... nice job. Sounds really crisp. I like it. It has.... it has this "significant" feeling. I'm not sure why. I'm in the pre-nirvana float right now, and Trey just got mean. I donno, theres just something about this show that makes it feel important, like... the arrival of something. Not "just another show".
Did you guys listen to the Trey interview with Hidden Track? Trey talks about how 2012 is the best year of the band basically, at least from their end. They've gotten rid of the gaggle backstage, they practice every day, they don't go onstage with a setlist, etc.
ser. biz.

Well, it caused to spend money I didn't want to on the webcast for the next two nights as well, but yes - I bought the show, and it's a great idea. If the sales of this show are much higher, I don't know why they'd want to play sub-par shows.
Wow drove out of the sticks for a minute to check out the set list and holy shit that looks like a show! I won't be able to give this one a proper listen for a couple days but I am stoked as hell. Looks like another great show from Summer 2012!
Such a sick show! Definitely one of the best first sets I've seen before
Absolutely love that the show seemed to be a big FU to the haters... Basically saying, we're going to play what we want, when we want. Loved it. The 2001 intro tease before Alaska had me laughing my ass of!

Didn't really get that at all. They played one of the most a-typical 3.0 shows that included a ton of actual jamming. I definitely don't see that as being an "F-U" to the "haters", I find it more of a listening to the "haters", and giving us what we want (which is what I'd hope they would want to do anyway).
Either way, I'm not bagging on you, or your assessment man, just possibly differing opinions. So jealous that you were there! Enjoy the next two!
Interesting perspective.
It did cross my mind that there was a reason to deliver last night: simply to spite the "webcast shows suck" folks.
ETA: Really, I think it's just a dick joke with jamming.
eta: Yes, I see what I did there and I just mean the musical way.
Last night was awesome. That first tube opener was not expected then that Carini was just set it off. Jam towards the end of undermind was blowing my mind, can't wait to reslisten..
JIM!!!!! EdBanky, ff12, & I couldn't believe this. This is what I was wanting after that lackluster performance back on my hometurf. Between this Jim, Carini, & Undermind I was pretty damn satisfied but then the CDT. Now at this point I was pretty high & realll happy but iirc this CDT is what we fucking want people. I was losing my mind & so was everybody else there.
Can't for tonight, drinking some bloody Mary's with jphish & company prepping for tonight.
This Jim is the real deal, gorgeous and mult-faceted jam here.
I don't really see it as a fuck you to the "haters" at all. I see it as Phish having fun with the setlist. In order to Spell out Fuck Your Face, they had to play shorter sets, which means longer versions of songs (ie, jams).
I don't think there was any message between the lines other than "We're Phish, and we can still have fun".

no. he's rich, he just don't give a shit.
Next tour, each set list should contribute to spelling out a complete paragraph, one 12-word phrase at a time.
If this was supposed to be an FU to the haters, the second set would've been:

reading some peoples reaction to the show actually almost had me interested in hearing it.
then i read the setlist.
unfortunately its chock full of songs that i just dont get into.
though if the show is really 'that' good, then it shoudlnt be a one off anyway, but the start of a trend.
I also would like to point out that for them to spell out FUCK YOUR FACE w/Fuck your Face.. it meant that the setlist would have to be limited to a 7 song first set and a 6 song second set, hence the jams for the time filler required... but still, it was an in your face, fuck your face jam session..
I also personally requested SASS to Trey and the Band.. So we'll have to see if it comes out tonight or tomorrow...

cool, i def try, its been probably 20 months or so since i last heard a current phish show.
shame it had to be runaway and chlakdust tho, lol...KDF, omg, the pain goes on... sorta bad when the most interesting thing in the setlist to me is the meatstick, lol
i dig the owl poster tho! :wtu:
So, this Runaway Jim and Chalkdust Torture. The Carini and Undermind.
I'm saying best of 3.0. This Carini.... is fucking glory.
But the space and jams they get to in Jim and Chalkdust are the stuff of dreams. I'm so happy.
I think this Carini is a good example of this era of Phish where they stretch something and ipso facto it must be good. 13:00 Carini must be good, but a 6:00 minute whatever has no value.

Are you critiquing the perception of fans that length=quality, or are you saying that Phish is clearly capable of great things if only they give them time to develop?

This. I think they are capable of great things in a 4:00 minute stretch as they are in a 13:00 stretch. So, for instance, the Carini is getting a lot of print, but the Farmhouse gets lost (in a manner of speaking, it hasn't gone completely unnoticed). That's really all I am referring to.

But seriously, this show. Carini, Jim, Chalkdust, Undermind, Farmhouse.... even fucking FARMHOUSE!!!! I LOVE THIS FARMHOUSE. I never thought a song like Farmhouse could be like, that it could have that feeling... "the significance". I mean, songs can always be well-played 'n shit, but what separates the 7/10/99 Chalkdust from any other Chalkdust? Theres a significance, a "mattering". This Farmhouse matters. It has that finality to it, that "arrival" feeling of being "it". I don't know if you guys understand at all what I'm trying to say but...
I mean, I've listened to the Jim and Chalkdust 3 times each today, this morning before I took my friend home, on the way out to my dad's house for a brunch thing (he got married yesterday), and then on the way back to my apartment.
Each time, it got better. Minutes 12:00 - 13:30 in Chalkdust may be some of the finest jamming the band has played since 2.0. Thoughts on that?

To your point, made many times this summer, they've been playing some incredible jamming for a couple months now:) One minute does not make/break a jam......well, maybe it does sometimes in 3.0. But yeah, I prefer good 3.0 jamming to average 2.0 jamming, and I generally was fond of 2.0 for the most part. They're into some good shit right now.

Well I think many of us would agree with that in principle, that quality and quantity aren't necessarily casually related. But I think they are often correlated enough that that's why people get understandably excited by longer track lengths. And I think this stands to reason -- the longer the improv goes on, the further away the band tends to get from the original song structure, and the more likely they are to hit upon something new and exciting.
I think Length = Quality now because it ONLY happens when the band is feeling it. The band doesn't push song lengths for the sake of doing so anymore. Everything is "We go until the juice stops". I mean, if you listen to the 11/7/98 Mike's Song, for instance, you can hear Trey searching for ideas... not quite sure exactly what to do. But theres an assumption of length that allows him to take the time to come up with shit. Its really weird, listening to that Mike's Song after hearing a 3.0 Mike's, because the main jam segment FEELS drastically different, because the groove goes on regardless, even when Trey is largely absent, searching for something to say.
And so today, the band only lets the length go on when they are still feeling the ideas coming fluently. Therefore, for a song to REACH that point, it HAS to be good in the bands eyes. Except maybe 11/28/09, I think every long jam that the band hit upon so far has happened because the music took them there, rather than them saying "Hey, lets play Chalkdust for 20 minutes just because".
So I think that now, length does equal quality. Its not contingent upon each other, but in this era where the bands operating mode is no wasted space, no wasted notes, the simple fact of there being MORE notes means that they felt great while it was happening, meaning it was good enough for THEM to keep going. Therefore, there is quality there.

Really more Fall 94.
I finally got a chance to listen to the second set tonight.
Damn, this Jim delivers. No doubt about it.
Farmhouse was lovely. The ambient outro jam was cool, too.
Even Alaska was a spunky, lively version. Mike particularly was doing nice things.
I dug the Chalkdust. Some great melodic, thematic passages. I still wouldn't put it above Camden '99, though.
Emotional Rescue was fine. Neat bust-out for the people in attendance, I suppose.
FYF had some extra bite to it.
This show is well deserving of its instant-classic status, the gag (heh) being only a minor contributor to that.
Just wrapping up this first set and can't believe they finally pulled something off like this. Right from the start with an absolute perfect First Tube they set it up big and never looked back. The Carini and Undermind have me in tears they are so fucking delicious.
yeah man, this Undermind. I can't believe I wasn't flipping out about it more initially....this may be the best thing of the show. Its not as deeply exploratory, but.... its just like.... pure musical enchantment. Its perfect Phish orgasm. Trey just KILLS it.
Even August likes it.

We can only hope so.
First tube - I literally hate this song, so from the start, I am cringing. That being said, it is a lively version. Lots of energy. I'll grant them that they deliver on this version.
Uncle Pen - solid.
Carini - some whale early on in the jam. It gets dark quickly (No African).
~4:10 minutes some good work by Trey.
~5:30 page and mike pushing it out there. Trey and fish follow, this could get interesting.
~6 cringe inducing shit from Trey imo. Rest of the band is locked into this.
~6:45 recovery. going somewhere -> major key modulation. Woostah version'd
~7:20 Orca sighting
~8:11 beautiful key work by page, Trey falls in line. staccato style theme developing. We may have something here.
~9:40 as quickly as they find IT, they lose it
~10:18 Trey leading it---- Interesting. Getting psychedelic again.
~11:10 Mini kang ready to release his monster load of RAWK
~12:37 false peak back into ambiance and space. interesting. Who's keeping small daddy red on this tight of a leash?
Kill Devil Falls -
Carini jam meanders into this. And we're off from the gates. I will say this, if there is one song that really encapsulates this era of Phish, it's Kill Devil Falls. The cheese dick lyrics and guitar playing really nail the mind state of Trey while the trio lays down a very formidable back drop of neo-psychedelia. Chorus refrain -> b/g jam. Good volume control and dynamics by the band. Trey wastes no time with this one. Very aggressive out of the gate. Pretty standard start to the jam. I think he kicks on the tube screamer way too soon. But that is just me. Right into the RAWK. Good build to a peak. Steady rise to the peak. Trey is just itching to finally blow that RAWK load. Three songs without a RAWK peak. That's like years without touching a pussy for most men. BACKED UP'd. Oh shit. No raging rawk peak. A smooth segue into the refrain. I just don't believe this. Hitting song # 4. and I haven't been RAWKED yet.
YEM -
Composed intro is a little rough. Overall it is kind of tight. Not 2.0 sloppy by any means, but by no means tight enough to not induce minor cringes.
The Nirvana section they ease into it. some surreal soundscapes. Excellent job of playing, "what chord am I thinking of?" It's brief though. I would of liked to see a little more with it. A little more slop through the melodic composed section. Overall, it's good though. Nice work by Mike in his bass solo section. Good transition into the build up chords. Build up flows really well. Build up with the Trey section sounds shitty to me. Trey's tone isn't round enough for my taste. Way too harsh. Solid drop into the verse/tramps section. Verse section is solid. Jam sounds good. They are dialed into it. Vocal jam is pretty good as well. Overall a solid YEM. LOL at the Dick's vocal jam. Redic.
Ocelot -
Very laid back version. They sound super comfortable and relaxed. I imagine that much Dick would do that to ya. Excellent groove in this version. Very chill. I really like the placement too (I know in this case it's a product of spelling, but it really works here). Trey is super patient with this version. A little whale in the beginning, but that's fine. It works here. Excellent work by Trey in this version. Page is on too. Loving his playing here. ~6:37 Trey plays an incredible lick. Very atypical. Loving the legato playing by Trey. Excellent transition to a well timed RAWK peak. Great version. Might be the best one of 3.0.
Undermind -
Super chill start to this version as well. Very tight sounding. They nail the break down section that leads back into the pre-chorus. Trey sounds good. Oddly enough his 3.0 tone works a lot better in tunes like this versus other material. The start of the jam solid. Interesting start to this jam with Trey playing chordal themes. Some patience by Trey. I like the chill factor through 7 minutes. Slow build up. Cool modulation around the 9 minute mark. Good interplay ~10 minute mark. Trey with some good octave work around 10:30. Page comes in nicely. Super melodic. I really like it. ~12 minutes, some whaling, but it fits. I really like this. Great evolving jam. This is one of the better themes they've played in a really long time. Very organic growth with it.
Overall, I thought it was a good first set. Some composed flops, but nothing major. The Undermind is the highlight of the set. The rest of the set is kind of forgettable to me. I actually like the Woostah Carini more than this one. I'm intrigued to see how this second set plays out.
Runaway Jim-
Solid through the verses and choruses. Start of the jam is very playful in my opinion. ~7 minutes leaving the normal Jim territory. Trey trying to get shit funky.
~8:15 drop into a really interesting theme.
~9:45 really cool stuff with Trey. b/g to build nicely.
~10:39 Plinko emerges. Cool funk-esque theme building here. Nice wah work by Trey
~11:35 holy shit. They found IT. This is really good. Like damn.
~12:30. Pretty sick little sequence they got here.
~14 minutes - I really like how this got fucking uber psychedelic dark
~15 minute Orca return. Eh. I'm on the fence here. Trey's whale is killing me. The trio sounds dope as shit here.
~16 minutes - really nice sequence here. Very nice development here. Soaring melodic peak.
~18 minutes outro portion of the jam is a cool little break down.
Where the fuck has this been? There is tons of patience and theme development. Is this the same band I've been bitching about for over three years now?
Farmhouse-
Drops into this. I will admit, that initially this would of bummed me out after that Jim. But it is also a needed break. Good version. Tasteful solo by Trey. Interesting outro section. Nice space and ambiance. Shit gets heavy. I really dig it. Super psychedelic
Alaska- Interesting transition into this. Very laid back version as well. Trey is feeling it. He nails the jam in this one. Very RAWKing jam. But it works. The contrast of sounds flows well in this set.
Chalkdust Torture-
Solid verse and chorus work. Out of the gate, the jam is rawking.
Sounds good ~3:25.
First break down is good.
~6:30 and the breakdown begins. cool pattern by Trey
~7 minutes - and we're off. This got interesting real quick. Cool chord work by Trey
~9 minutes it gets a little dirty. very nasty theme.
~10 minute theme is still really developing. Very good.
~10:34 modulation > cool major key theme. Very spacey
Reminds me of what they were going for in the Atlanta version, only they fell super short. This is much, much better.
~13 minutes. I really like this. Shit is sick.
~14:30, nice build up theme for the peak
~16 minutes, awesome outro theme to this jam. it gets super spacey.
Emotional Rescue -
Nice little treat. Good version, and fitting for the close of the "wheel of fortune" show.
FYF-
solid.
Encore:
I don't give a shit about these songs.
Overall, I would say this second set is much better than the first set. And it was a legitimate set in my opinion. Something they haven't done in 3.0. Play a full set of quality music. It's good. I would listen to this again. And it makes me wonder where the fuck this band has been? It has also gotten interested enough to hear the rest of the run. I am about to download night II now, and get started on it. I'd rank this as one of the best 3.0 shows in my opinion. It def has a flow, and style to it that isn't shitty like a lot ton of 3.0.

I didn't realize when we were taking this picture how gone we looked.....I'm glad this was the only picture taken of us together from the whole week. Very fitting.
best Farmhouse ever? I'll say so.
It makes me think of the 6/23/04 Slave, with Trey letting a single note feedback through the whole solo. Fucking brilliant.
This show is so good. The Carini is super amazing; don't know if its best-ever, but just watching the band during it is a blessing. ~9:30 is when the end typically gives out, so I'm even more confused now about their approach to this show because there isn't even any looking at each other going on; they just keep going.
The YEM is a littttttttle sloppy at some parts. But its forgivable. Also, the Mike/Fish section at the end of the jam is NUTS!!!!!! SO GOOD!!!!!
I bought the show, and even on the mp3's Fish's drums sound INCREDIBLE on the YEM. I noticed it the other night, but his hi-hat and ride cymbal are just perfect. They sound brilliant.
Undermind is just a gem.
I think this show deserves Best Of 3.0. I mean, what do we have to put it up against, really? Its got FOUR of the best 3.0 jams ever, its got YEM, the setlist says Fuck your face, they broke out Emotional Rescue, RUNAWAY JIM IS 20 MINUTES LONG for fucks sake....
it just goes to show that when Phish decide they want to have balls, they're the best band ever. I mean, when was the last time that a show had 3 or 4 of the best jams of an era in it? Besides Cypress, the only thing I can come up with is..... well, hmm. This is tough. I mean, theres a difference between 3 or 4 sick jams, and 3 or 4 best-of-era. I mean, because 6/20/04 has the Drowned, Seven Below and Twist that are cosmic. 6/19/04 only has the Piper really (Ocean is good, but...ehh).
I mean, 12/7/99? With the Gin and Halley's? Or 12/16/99 with the Sand and Tweezer? That might work. But thats only 2 jams. I can't even think of a show right now with THREE best-ever jams. 7/4/00? With the Jibboo and Twist maybe....
11/7/98 comes to mind actually, because the Mike's Song -> Simple jam and MAMMOTH ACDC Bag > Ghost > Reba sequence.
Actually, someone put up a new source of that show on etree. I'm gonna go download it, because that 20-minute ACDC Bag is fucking juice.
I'm listening to the YEM right now from this show, though, and the start of the jam is AMAZING. Trey leans back, and lets space develop, and its SOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!! this is SO GOOD!!!!!!

That's :-o. 2003-2004 had a ton of garb to be sure, but this Undermind can't touch the SPAC Reba and Piper from 2004, nor the Shoreline Gin from 2003, nor the Worcester Moma from 2003, and on and on. You will certainly find people more into this era that I am on the paug, but if I can come up with a few, they'll be able to rattle off many.
its very cool, no doubt. i would consider it some of the coolest phish i've heard in 3.0

but come on now--- the sustained note makes you think of a Slave from '04? i beg you, sir, to immediately put on the Slave from 2/26/97.

There was a Slave played in Atlanta a couple years back which had the same thing. It was quite nice.

Just now giving my second go-through on this Jim. So much good stuff going on here. Ramz, I didn't mind that brief whaling segment so much. I think it can work at times, when it's used to add trippy texturing and not just so Trey can whale the hell out of a Tweezer solo (see: Hershey '10). I think it worked well here.
This show has so many highlights. I love the fantastic major themed peaks in First Tube, Undermind, and Chaulkdust. Undermind has got some really great whale work by Trey, similar to the Camden 99 Chalkdust and the Jones Beach Numberline. Also really love the Farmhouse. Kind of features an "Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks" sort of jam.

Funny. I said something about that days earlier...

They should have covered Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks for Neil Armstrong.
I still can't believe I love this show so much..
Never would have thunk I'd be listening to whole 3.0 shows..

Go find that Slave, and come back to me. That Crosseyed -> Jam -> Slave combo from 6/23/04 is rivaled by only the 6/19/04 Piper as the most cohesive, clear-minded, well-played thing from that entire year.
Its the best post-hiatus Slave, in any regard. In my mind, its the "perfect" Slave in terms of how they approach the jam and the different movements and segments it has. It just flows perfectly, I guess. Regardless, its my personal favorite because of all the cool shit that happens from Fishman and Mike, especially. and Page, and even Trey is shredding. Its fucking great man, and the Crosseyed/Noblesville Jam thing that precedes it is WHAT sealed me as being a Phish fan. So...... yeah. THAT jam is rivaled again by the 6/19/04 Piper as the most intensely-peaking jam of '04.

all right. just for you i listened to the Crosseyed and Slave. better than i expected it to be. i'd even call them both very good. the one jam from '04 i listen to on any regular basis is Seven Below from 6/25. i like it better than the Piper you cite.
still and all, that Slave doesn't even touch the one from 2/26/97, which you should go listen to immediately.
Yeah man, the Crosseyed is fucking incredible. Did you listen to the SBD? Because on the audience tapes, theres SO many little things that Page and Mike do in that jam that don't really come across. Like little bass licks that Mike throws in when they're building the turnarounds and whatnot.
listening to the Slave now. Its such a weird sound lol to me, because it has that like... 95/96-ish honkiness in the sound, but...its 97. Things got smooth in 97. Wow the first E minor jam break was pretty gnarly lol. Trey's going wild in here. A little too disjointed for my tastes; I like when he plays the written part during the 2nd break, before the actual jam.
Funny, I've tried getting into the 6/25 Seven Below and I just can't get my head around it. I'm pretty sure thats the longest Seven Below ever, right? 27-something minutes?
This is a pretty melted jam beginning though, wow. I like it. Its just completely washed away haha
This is my first time through this show and I gotta say, they played the F#@K out of this. I love the idea behind their selections to start off but then for them to jam almost every song on the list just proves to me they can still bring the heat when they want to. I am seriously jealous of anyone in attendance.
Well done :phish:
Love this Chalkdust... and I almost never say that.
I put on the video of this show last night as some background viewing whilst I worked on other things. My god, Trey's dancing during drums & bass in YEM is particularly atrocious. Kudos to him for having no shame, I guess, but man...
Listened back to this show today.
I still think it stands up as the "Best of 3.0" and a generally "good" show for any era.
Best Farmhouse jam eva bros
This CDT is as good as any of those CDT that went down this year imo
It is weird to me that my favorite show of 3.0 has Farmhouse>Alaska in the 2nd/3rd slot of the second set.... but it's true.... and I guess that's what makes Phish, PHISH.
I really loved that MPP2 show this year.... as did I the Randall's CDT... yet this show (and entire run) still stands out as the best of the best I have seen in my short n00bish career.

yupp, me too. Dicks '12 is the best run of phish ive seen.
The thing I love about this is that the Farmhosue > alaska is so different than usual. On paper its meh but that farmhouse jam is sweet and the outro to alaska isnt bad either. And rest of the show just speaks for itself. The energy was pretty high in that place too.
It felt so great to be so jacked up after that show. Was an amazing experience from start to finish. It's why dick's floors are a hard ticket right now. I wish I could experience that feeling after every show. I'd probably be in a lot of debt.
honestly I enjoy the stands at dicks unless I plan on getting in line early or rolling in right when the gates open

I may have to buy some stands this year. So it's not a bad place to be? Seems so far away.

not a bad place at all. can def crew up with a lot of friends and the sound isnt bad if your at least halfway down towards the floor. i would just suggest getting a little early to get closer to the band so your not allll the way in the back
My first Dicks...stoked for this!

Nice bump. I would say we should start an LST, but I've already got like three zooms happening, not to mention twitter. I probably won't have time to watch the show. Just stare at devices. :beerbang:
First tube opener! I called that shit!!
Mike looks funny with a longer do.

Ha. I have avoided looking at the setlist, so I am going by just the first letter. Thought Undermind was second...I clearly don't remember this night....
Dude. The first three songs spell FUC. Are they gonna spell fuck you?
Band is kicking arse right out the gate.
A guy I knew at the show suggested it was going to be "FUCK YOU ROMNEY" as this was the Obama/Romney election year
I can't remember what the K song is to save my life

Toddlers at most
Of course toddlers love their dicks.
You know it's an epic night when even Ocelot smokes.
Was this the summer that kuroda started the tour with those hideous white ovals on the stage and ditched them mid tour?
Here's my late post after this show... lulz. Wife put the kibosh on that plan!

Yeah, the circus lights as I called them, never saw them in person but they looked awful on the webcasts.
That's one thing that I noticed. The lights were usually great back then, but now it's on another level.
And this is a pretty great show
Show still holds up. That was a damn solid first set.
How many 3.0 type II Jims have there been? Not many... I only recall witnessing this one and Tahoe one year. Maybe one at Bill Graham? Not many....
ETA: this Jim jam is CRUSHING!

The Jim from Charlotte last year was one of the better jams of the summer.
But yeah honestly I think the Jim from this show might be the jam of the night, tough call between it and the Carini.
Ha, totally forgot about the 2001 fakeout into Alaska.

I still love that Farmhouse though. I kinda forgot Alaska existed....

thank you phish for forcing me to rewatch this one.
i remember summer 2012 pretty well, and this rewatch really took me back. that summer tour was very much a jukebox phish tour. they played a lot of songs in the first set, but they also dug into their catalog and played deep cuts almost every night. (camel walk, timber, brother, ha ha ha, light up or leave me alone, shaggy dog, torn and frayed, corinna, fuck your face, live on mars, dinner & a movie, BBFCFM, WMGGW, daniel, let it loose, soul shakedown, frankenstein, lonesome cowboy bill, etc. were all summer '12 first setters!! i love jukebox phish because of the randomness of the song selection, but they weren't really jamming too hard yet.
the whole spelling thing forced them to play a 7 song 1st set, which in turn forced them to jam. jamming in the first set, along with being forced to only play 6 songs in the second set, obviously brought out more jams.
this show felt like a pivotal one in that it reminded the band they could jam any song at any time while also having fun with their catalog. it's almost criminal that there wasn't a fall tour this year to capitalize on this new chapter, but thus is 3.0. momentum was to be built slowly over many many years.
I'd like to thank this re-watch for getting Ocelot stuck in my head all day.
