It sounded alot like The Stick that Brian Eno uses with King Crimson, id like to get a confirmation of someone who was there. maybe not, but that would be a nice way to hint at the costume

Here's the phish.net version:

Quote10/30/2010 Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall

Set 1: Kill Devil Falls, Cavern > Foam, Guelah Papyrus, Chalk Dust Torture -> Whole Lotta Love[1] > Chalk Dust Torture, Ha Ha Ha, Walk Away, Wolfman's Brother[2] -> Undermind > Bathtub Gin[3], The Squirming Coil

Set 2: Tube > Possum[4] > Tweezer[3] -> Heartbreaker[5] -> Ramble On -> What Is and What Should Never Be[5] -> Tweezer -> Stairway to Heaven[6], Halley's Comet > Also Sprach Zarathustra > David Bowie, Show of Life, Backwards Down the Number Line > Good Times Bad Times

Encore: Sleeping Monkey > Tweezer Reprise[3]

[1] One verse only.
[2] Vocal jam.
[3] Whole Lotta Love tease.
[4] Whole Lotta Love and Sneakin' Sally teases.
[5] Phish debut; Incomplete.
[6] Phish Debut; Incomplete.

Whole Lotta Love was incomplete (one verse only) and was played for the first time since March 1, 1991 (1,033 shows). Wolfman's contained a vocal jam. Gin, Possum and Tweezer and Tweezer Reprise all contained Whole Lotta Love teases. The incomplete versions of Heartbreaker, What Is and What Never Should Be and Stairway to Heaven were all Phish debuts. Ramble On was played for the first time since August 12, 1998 (305 shows). After Stairway to Heaven, Trey joked, "Happy Halloween! See you all next year." From the soundcheck, Ramble On and the second and third versions of Whole Lotta Love were incomplete. Destiny Unbound was played by only Mike and Fish.

:wtu: found me right before first set started and we bopped for the first five songs or so.

This show was the best I've seen in 3.0, by a wide margin. By set 2 I
was 20 years younger, hammer-swingin' horny and loose as a goose.

For the third time in 3.0 and the second time this month, my longest gap record has been broken. Not only that, the old record was crushed. check this out!

yeah, the tweezer rules but its like that michael jackson 2001 earlier this year - its pretty obviously rehearsed.  which is kind of the anti-jam in terms of phish and the improvisation that we chase around.  but its still awesome.

The MJ 2001 felt much more organic and smooth. But it may just feel like that because it was all in one consistent style of jam.

MJ 2001 > Zepplin Tweezer, in my own opinion.

Check the tags.  I don't have the files with me now, but I remember them coming up out of order on my mp3 player, so it may be f'ing things up if there are multiple tracks marked as track 1 on the same album.  Just a guess.

I was digging the 420 stream last night, here are notes from my show highlights:

CDT - Trey drops in near 3:01, nice Page on the organ, brief synopocation jam, similar to the 30Oct.98 Antelope Siket style jam, nice transition back in the Dust back into Stash style dissonance, Trey really extending the previous Siket vibe, segue into Whole Lotta Love - 1st verse and chorus back into CDT, Jerry esque Trey, fun/unique version.

Wolfman's - jam kicks in ernest near 3:17, vocal scat to accompany, Mike marching w/ Fishman, Fishman scatting w/ his snare, nice Trey and Page near 4:55, patient jamming, love Page on the clav near 5:40, subtle Manteca vibe dissolves into growling funk jam, sick Mike, nice swinging funk near 7:10+, active Page still mixing it up nicely house style, old school '97 vibe, solid jam/version! dig the transition into Undermind.

Tweezer - straight segue into WLLove at 4:27 to begin the jam, Trey ripping it up into Heartbreaker, I was ser thinking wtf? on last night's 420 stream(which has excellent quality for a stream btw) back into machine Gun Trey, the jam out of Heartbreaker is sweet where Trey trills out then segues into chromatic chordal runs, tasty stuff right before they segue into Ramble On, Mike and Fishman dead on, "Autumn moon lights my way...", nice variations w/ the vocals, Bonham Fish, into Thank You, back into Tweezer nice segue into Stairway outro jam(absolutely love the Song Remains the Same live version which I think Trey was channeling here, Download to Jimmy Page?,

Bowie - 2001 > Bowie reminded me of old school Phish, trippy intro, "25, 25!" jam drops at 4:28, Trey teases something subtly in his first few lines, can't place it?, Fall '94 style synopocation near 6:00+, nice note selection by Trey, Mike/Page drop underneath, back into Bowie proper, nice tone by Trey, playful Page, Trey and Mike respond, Page continuing on his ivories, nice ascending lines by Trey near 8:45, slight consonance jam spawns, creative Trey building to peak, Fish offering great support underneath, Page comping intently pushing Trey, nice transition into outro trill, solid version.

Here's hoping to a transportational Phish Halloween show tonight!!! :beers:

My highlights for the show are the same as sl's, except swap the Wolfman's out for the Squirming Coil.

I've listened to the Wolfman's four times now, and not hearing it. Vocal jams are neat when they are impromptu as it was the first time they did this in Wolfman's, but doing it repeatedly makes me suspicious. Perhaps I have a hole where my heart should be. It may be the best of this fall tour, but what is that really saying?

However, the Squirming, specifically Page's solo, is the best of the year imo. He FINALLY takes his time with it, and it is fantastic. All sorts of themes and deviations, just makes you wonder what he could do on a solo tour with just a piano and nothing else.

FWIW, I think this show on tape is better than Utica.

not to sound anything like Mr. Miner or anything, but Saturday night was perhaps one of the most epically gaudy Phish shows of all time that just oozed of sheer power and absolute command over their repertoire.  if i had to equate it with something, the only thing that comes to mind is Bomb Factory.  plus, it was the only show i caught this weekend, which I don't think could have turned out any better for me...

that is all for now.

On my first time through the first set of this(or anything from the fall for that matter).  IMO, they sound leaps and bounds better than what I saw at Hershey, Merriweather and Camden.

Nothing is best ever, but I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth the chalkdust > WLL > Chalkdust was and everything else seems to be pretty tight so far.  Onto wolfmans!

It's not even the glowsticks that were so awesome, it was just the explosion of energy from the crowd during that pause.

The glowsticks were just helping express the energy!

DOOOD! Was listening today and got goosbumps during that part... didn't know what was going on from live show standpoint, but once they dropped back in to the cut I was one stoked camper.

On another note... show highlights for me after first listen are...

1) the mentioned Guleah
2) Chalk > WLL > Chalk (awesome segues and energy you can fucking taste)
3) Wolfman's (love how they're rocking the vocal jam on this tune lately... and a nice move to Undermind)
4) Tweezer > To > Heaven (sloppy... but again, you can taste the energy... the Ramble On was tits... and FUCKING STAIRWAY?!?)
5) 35 seconds into Bowie when Trey says... "25.. 25"... during exactly track 25 of the show.
6) 2001 (one of the more drawn out and jammy versions of 3.0... that didn't include an MJ jam)
7) Tweeprise w/ WLL ending (and 25, 25 lyrics again... anyone have another idea on this meaning something else?)

the Guelah glowstick moment was pretty intense when it happened - but for me, i was just especially stoked because that was my first Guelah!!  i've literally been chasing it for 57 shows over 13 years and have usually missed it by just a show or 2, so when I finally got one, i was just in heaven. glad i got to see Mike & Trey's little dance too!

Sorry, but I think that's a very stupid suggestion.  August paid for his ticket like everyone else.  He saw what he wanted, and thought it sucked, so he left.  No offense to jj, but I get really annoyed with these type of suggestions.  It implies that someone else deserved the ticket more, and with the case of August, I couldn't think of a fan more deserving of the Halloween ticket I sold him.

Anyway, it was just an observation on my end that JJ got shut out and Aug was less than thrilled (due to being overtired and the LF set).  Didn't mean that he was less deserving of the ticket.  Let's all try to forget I mentioned it in the first place.

I'll just throw in my two cents and say that set II aside if we compare sets I and III from 10/31 and the show on 10/30, it's pretty hard not to think that Halloween got overshadowed by 10/30 in a major way.

I think a lot of people had that vibe going into the Halloween show -- I heard numerous people asking "how are they going to top last night?!"

The Zeppelin stuff is kinda gimmicky and not exactly well played.

I liked both sets from 10/31 better.

I'm loving the this # line!  Trey is ripping in up in a few parts.

At the show, McGrupp and I were discussing how we both liked that Trey has made up a sort-of "NumberLine signature lick" that he uses a bunch in this version.

y'all know what I'm talkin' bout?

This Wolfman's into Undermind still breaks my heart.  I think it was a total air deflater.  After everything else going on in Set 1, I'll let it pass, but man I was actually angered at the show and still dissappointed.  This Wolfman's was WAAAAAY out there and then it stopped.     Yes, I'm sad about that.

you should be conditioned to expect that by now.  at least Undermind is a cool, underplayed song (unless you don't like it)

Is this really what you guys do?  I mean I like to listen as critically as the next guy but it seems like you rarely enjoy Phish anymore. Maybe it's just me but if I don't like something or something I like begins to bore me I forget about it. Maybe I'm just lucky that I still love this band. Or I'm lucky to be dumb.

The term way out the was used as I really thought it departed from the norm.  I am not saying my face melted completely but I did find a connection with this jam and was thoroughly dissappointed with how it felt like a deflation.  I do like Undermind, but in this case I remember at the show and even now still being pretty dissappointed at how the energy totally seemed to stop for a moment.  This was my only displeasure of the evening and I think 10/30 was the best show I've seen all year and possibly all of my 3.0 shows.

The segue to Undermind is rough for sure, but I thought the two tunes (Wolfman's->undermind) make a good pair. And that's a tasty little jam in Wolfman's.

I love how everyone gets caught up on the 3.0 segue disasters.  It's like a 10 second part....who cares?

This Wolfman's (as well as Utica) are the first 3.0 versions to touch on anything other than the standard 3.0 Straight-Ahead-Wolfmans-Funk.... and that is a great thing!

Personally it's cutting short a jam that had potential that bugs me more.

Give that Wolfman's another 5 minutes and it may have indeed gone way out there.

You're right, but I actually felt very pissed about it at the show.  Just pissed because I really was into this Wolfman's so much that it actually felt like a punch to the gut.  I got over it and quickly I might add.  This Wolfman's was doing it for me and enjoying every minute of it.

I for one really enjoyed what was going on during this 10/30 and for the whole weekend for that matter.

I guess I was intending my comment just to be more of a discussion point only because the sense I saw was that everyone loved the segue and I did not.

Now moving on to a more positive note...I also thoroughly enjoy Page's solo at the end of coil.  That was something special.

Personally even though I wish they had taken the Wolfman's out there further I still enjoyed the Wolfman's> Undermind part of the show when listening to the stream, probably mostly due to the fact that at this point Undermind has kind of entered "kickdown" status, so I was stoked to hear them start it up.

The DWD from the next night definitely was more frustrating for me.

As for the quantity of beers, I was talking to my buddy Travis that was with me about this over the weekend.  It was easier to just buy a round at a time, but I really don't remember how many I had.  All I know is I kept turning around and there was a round of 6-8  beers at all times.  Very good stuff.
