Title: Klipsch vs Bose (low end) computer speakers
Post by: gainesvillegreen on March 13, 2014, 07:53:39 PM
I am thinking about purchasing the following Klipsch speakers for my computer this weekend, thought I would ask the gallery if anyone here owns these, or has a preference on brand in the admittedly lower end of computer speakers.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/promedia-2-1-speaker-system-3-piece/9382232.p?skuId=9382232&id=1218095770265#tab=overview

The only comparable BOSE product I can find are these:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/companion-174-2-series-iii-multimedia-speaker-system-2-piece/8864513.p?id=1218918122908&skuId=8864513&st=categoryid$abcat0515039&cp=1&lp=1

The fact the Klipsch comes with subwoofer may make this apples and oranges, and being a single father of three prevents me from moving higher in $$ in the market. Also, I have a GC to BestBuy

Any input you may have will be taken into consideration. I really only see playing back WAV's/FLAC's on these with perhaps a Blu-Ray from time to time, but the comp is located in the living/dining/kitchen area, so it is a larger space.

If I were going to buy computer speakers, I would go audioengine.

Save the gift card for like a washing machine or something.

In full disclosure, I have never heard either speaker.

My personal experience with Bose:
full middles, a decently loud bottom end, and so-so highs.

Klipsch
More balanced.  Still a decent bottom end.  Better highs.

To me, Bose color the sound more than Klipsch.  If you're an equalizer pre-set kind of guy, you'll probably like the Bose speakers better.  If you are willing to forgo some of the loudness of the middles for a more natural sound, the Klipsch might be more your style.

Again, pure personal opinion, just one among many.  YMMV, etc.

Bose makes some ok earbuds but for the most part their products are positioned at the high end of consumer gear because of marketing and not quality.

I got a set of Bose earbuds with cc points and they are terrific.

^^
I tried those in the store and was concerned about
-sound isolation in a loud place (ie on a passenger plane), and
-the process of getting them in felt odd.

any issues in that regard?

the best thing, which seems obvious (even as an answer to my question) is to see what you like better, if possible.

If your thinking about earbuds for travel take a look at these. I travel a shitton and love them. You'll have to get molds made by an audiologist... It should be included in the cost.

The Bose are solid and comfortable and I find they are decent on the train and subway for my commute.

I got them for free though and I don't know that I'd pay the asking price...
