sorry for the double post but I'm a n00b. :-P
when I was friends with redrum in '97 he never invited me to any shows. :-(
one of my roommates in '96 was a huge phan. See was constantly blaring phish and going to shows.
I remember her going to nye '96, coming home and raving about it. I should hopped on the bus then. :frustrated:

correct. I can't believe my luck
edit: but the stats are kinda skewed since there haven't been that many played since I started going to shows. no Guelah is a little disappointing. and I've only seen 1 Reba in 34 shows :-(
not seen:

Most "underplayed" songs: (1) Golgi (2) Hydrogen** :-( (3) Mike's**
* Is it obvious 1995 was my biggest year?

The only tunes on here that aren't painful for me are A Train, Cold as Ice, and Dogs Stole. The rest are regrettable. I would be pumped to hear any of them.

well thanks d00d.
Unfortunately, I think I'll have a hard time ever making as many shows as I did this year, that is, until I get a
real job, and get some
real $ saved up again!
until then, I'll bask in my 2009 glory
And also keep in mind, in the year I saw my most shows ('91), they probably averaged $10 a ticket and gas was a $1 a gallon, so hitting that many shows these days is a big deal....I didn't have anything else to do in '91 and it was cheap so.....
In regard to my stats, I was really surprised to see that I have seen 42 Buried Alives and 35 Sloths! I also can;t believe I have seen more Fluffheads (42) than Character Zero (37) or Simple (37)....

Well fluff seems to be back in (almost) regular rotation in 09 as well. Played 7 times this year...
If only they could nail it perfectly every time like back in the "simpler times"
Speaking of simpler days - the first time I dosed was at the 7/30/93 show... that was a sweet Fluffhead! Brad brought out Trey's acoustic-on-a-stand for the intro and again for the outtro - which segued beautifully into My Friend, My Friend with acoustic intro. Those were the days.

What's the most common song that you haven't seen?
(probably applies more to under-40-show folks like me, rather than caravan, aug, jedi, et al)
Mine? Buried Alive. 1.9% chance of not seeing.
(If song selection were completely random)
Mother truckin' Rift.

My per-year and total show #s are weak in comparison to many of you all here. My only brag-worthy stat is that my first show is earlier than most--'91 Horn Tour. And I like to think my oldskool/pH/3.0 balance indicates a certain level of commitment, if nothing else....
Anyways, here's to Steinberg & phish.net for hooking the functions with the new site:

 Not quite--college. Crazy thing, though? I was at UVM. Anyways, I wrote about this for the "Current state ..." thread but then lost the post. After Sugarbush in 1994, I was seriously turned off by the size of the scene. So basically, I missed 95 and 96 because of traffic management in Fayston, VT. When I went to Worcester 97, I was looking for a nostalgia experience and I didn't get it.
I just looked at my overplayed/underplayed lists--I can certainly live with this:
Title Expected versions
in 33 shows Versions seen Difference
Seven Below 0 6 6
Anything But Me 0 5 5
Down w/ Disease 5 10 5
Horn 3 8 5
Piper 2 7 5
Rock and Roll 1 6 5
Birds of a Feather 1 5 4
Bug 1 5 4
Character Zero 3 7 4
Ghost 2 6 4
Still waiting on Alumni Blues, though--they owe me two!
And I guess it shouldn't surprise me, but the average # of shows I've been at "with" other 'paugers is about 10. 19 w/ caravan, 14 w/ redrum--I knew you guys sounded familiar.

i was a little burnt out on the band come 99 myself.
not a hater by any means, just didn't have that serious desire to see every show.
i also put my first band together in 98 so that kept me away from a bunch of shows i woulda otherwise hit as well as all of summer 98.
After I first moved to NYC in '94 and started working full time, I saw less and less shows until 98-99 I started picking back up to around 25/year....95 I saw 20, but 94,96 and 97 were slow years for me. I only saw 11 shows in 97 which was my lowest besides '90....
Damn, mad props everyone for the lists!
I felt pretty good about my 31 show in 97/98. Man, can anyone tell when I fuct my life up? 99 I only saw 5 shows, none that whole summer, by 2000 I was completely off the map, oh well.....

Oh, I don't find 96 to be all that great but that's only in looking back to the recordings. I probably would have had a blast and I totally would have been there had I been able. So... You know, perhaps you shouldn't cite things (my reasons for missing shows for example) that you know nothing about.

Maybe, but I don't think there was any harm done. I take a "no harm, no foul" approach to life. Regardless of the one piece of evidence that I cited being incorrect, I do think that there was a huge demographic shift in the Phish audience in Summer '95-->Winter '96 that definitely turned a lot of "oldbies" off. And I obviously knew more than "nothing" about it. The evidence that I was in actuality citing was that you had said at least slightly derogatory things about '96 before and that your show list showed that in 1996 you saw no shows. These two facts add up to more than "nothing".

I had also said on many occasions that I stopped seeing shows to be a daddy. I've also said that 12/95 is the best month ever. Does that explain why I stopped seeing shows after 1995/12/15?
You can say whatever you want about demographic shifts, just leave me out of it. Because you clearly don't know shit about me.

Heh. I never hit double digits in my best years. The only thing I can point to is being old. I saw a few shows a year for the better part of a decade, and saw the band through a few different periods. Usually, I'm satisfied with that. Then, every couple years, this thread shows up and reminds me what might have been.
:-P
After NYE, I will be at 15 shows, and that was the goal I set at the beginning of summer (assuming there was going to be a fall tour and new years run). I could've hit way more shows if I didn't have to pay for most of my tuition and housing.
I was thinking I might finally hit double digits for a second time this year--my one double digit year to date being 1992, with the minimum qualifying figure of 10 shows. But no, I'm coming up one short.

I thought I had seen 150 shows. Oooops. I might be missing a show or two on my list. I am not one of those who memorizes dates, shows, setlists etc... It has all since become a streaked blur. I don't know how some of you people do it. I think you were just more sober than I. Hey 'van do you remember all of yours like yesterday. Unfortunately, I don't have all my tickets because I was often really high/drunk and was lucky if I made it out of a show with every piece of clothing I had entered with, my wallet, my shoes and my mind, let alone a ticket that was generally melting in my hand and trippin' me out.

for a time i thought it was a great idea to scribble the setlist on the back of my stub, after a few "melting in my hand" situations my stubs ended up looking like a something from the blue period

Some shows I remember every little detail, even if I was doing shots of sweet breath. Some shows I don't remember one thing. The only reason I remember that list (because over half of the early shows didn't have tickets printed for them) was that in '92 I started a scratch list on a piece of paper....If I didn't do that I would have never remebered. I think I started the list around show 50 or 60......But yes, there are stubs I have where I can't remember a lot of what happened (mostly 98-99) due to being generally wasted. Most shows on L I can remember fine. If I was drunk or rolling (or both) it's real foggy/gone from memory :|..But it's weird some of the small details you do remember, even 20 years later.....

It was always fun to look at my "show notes" when dosed. For example, at 10/25/96 next to "Free" I scribbled "Phatty!".

Hey, we saw four shows together Superfreakie - and you have the distinction of co-seeing the earliest show with me of the paugers on this thread:
1992-12-11 (Michigan Theater, Ann Arbor, MI)
I remember I ran over a big ass piece of metal on the interstate and ripped a hole in the bottom of my radiator on the way there. I was pulling over for ditch water on the way back to Illinois the next day. I also remember there was a ton of dancing room in the good seats of the balcony and My Friend, My Friend was all scary.

Dude. That wasn't simulcast, was it? (I think it might have been, but I assume you mean the dvd).
I was at the Clifford Ball but I also watched it at home on a big screen while tripping. Does that count as two shows?

That was a whole lotta "frozen screen" on my end. But it was better than 10/31/98 which was just a nightmare in my opinion.

Damn, you were at more than half of my shows...And I hear you on the big blur. 8-)

CRUSHING stats on the reg.
fuck... you've seen twice as many Divided's as I've seen shows!
Here's a fun little exercise. I took my top 20 songs and constructed a setlist from them. I'd be pretty psyched on this one minus the Zero encore...
Set I:
Wilson, NICU, Chalk Dust Torture, The Moma Dance, Wolfman's Brother, Guyute, Limb by Limb, Bathtub Gin, Possum, David Bowie
Set II:
Down with Disease > Piper, Harry Hood, Ghost > Mike's Song > 2001 >Weekapaug Groove, Run Like an Antelope, You Enjoy Myself
Encore:
Character Zero
Here is mine.
I: Wilson, The Moma Dance, Bathtub Gin, Chalk Dust Torture, Stash, You Enjoy Myself, Run Like an Antelope, Bouncing Around the Room, Character Zero
II: Down with Disease > Tweezer, Slave to the Traffic Light, Mike's Song > Piper > Tube > Weekapaug Groove, Harry Hood, Cavern
E: David Bowie> Tweezer Reprise
I'll play!
I: Birds of a Feather, Chalk Dust Torture, Limb x Limb, Tweezer, Wolfman's Brother, Character Zero, Moma Dance, Bathtub Gin, Guyute, Stash, Tweezer Reprise
II: Rock & Roll > Ghost > Piper > DWD > David Bowie, Harry Hood > YEM
E: Cavern > Antelope

Top 20+, only because there were multiple songs tied at 11. And some sweet songs tied at 10 times that didn't make the cut.

love seeing YEM on top of this, as it should be.... would be happy with ANY setlist containing those, except my nemesis Taste.
however, my underplayed list is what kills me. forgetting Landlady, i'd have expected more of those other great songs. and i FINALLY saw my first Fee on my bday this year, THANK GOD!!! and of course other than Taste, i'm happy with all of my overplayed songs... no such thing as too much Ghost!!

Even after the "I walked out and missed the 12-31-95 Mike's?"
incredible setlist construction

Really only 3 shows we both attended... that's surprising! 2 of them were Hampton last year, too. The 3rd was Nissan in 95.
That's the funnest part of seeing other people's show list on Phish.net. Seeing what shows you attended together though perhaps not "together."

DC 'paug meetup ftw!
So, I have been using "the spreadsheet" to get MP3 copies of every show I attended - it's a bit of a process, but the spreadsheet is sweet...
They just finished upgrading each show's bitrate to -V0 (Extreme) mp3 on the spreadsheet. Along with having a higher bitrate, each upgraded show will be fully tagged and ready for iTunes.
Highly suggested resource if you didn't know that already.

I like that they claim "This site voluntarily complies with the Phish fan web site policy at http://www.phish.com/guidelines/index.php?category=5. (http://www.phish.com/guidelines/index.php?category=5.)"

They do allow hosting - provided the site does not post officially released material and does not generate revenues of any kind.

the 12-1-95 show was beyond epic, between the snow storm & buried alive opener that show kicked off a stellar month of phishtory.

I know I'll never look at music the same way again. Also, those things which I now consider compose a great musical performance, are incredibly high bar or as some would say, I have since become jaded. But there is a great positive in all this, as one of my life's missions has now become to seek out and be in attendance for these once in a life time magical events.

It totally sucked.
Honestly, we knew what we were seeing was legendary. I hoped they would keep getting better as the years rolled on, alas, they are only human.
BM don't lie. We walked out of shows like 12/30/93 knowing we were seeing legendary shit. No lie.

Yes, you are all correct. PEZ will be there, dipped and ready to be consumed.
However, there will be a new character other than Bambi. I am not sure which one yet, but I am sure that we will melt our faces or our guns
I am not from the cape, I wish I was cause its awesome. I hail from NY... 30 minutes north of the city.
anyone in the neighborhood shoot me a call, you are all welcome.
we can hit the freshies together
My first show was 12/20/96 in Boston at the Fleet Center. I have not done the phish net tally but should. I would watch out for the snoopy Pez.... the yellow ones are triple dipped :) great stuff. Share Bear is the schiznit. Can't wait for Jone's Beach...floating on the water...nice and loud too!

I cant believe i have seen 86 shows counting Jones Beach coming up. that is a lot, i would have had no clue if it wasnt for that nifty check box thingy. what fun....wowzers
Quoteredrum and sneakinsally were at 43 show(s) together.

Yeah... I was supposed to come back to the US in time to see the Summer 97 shows, but stayed an extra month and only got to see the Went... Missed VaBch, Raleigh, and Atlanta... Once I was back home from the Went, I worked my ass off for a couple of months and went back... Missed Hampton and Winston-Salem...
But it was worth it... Totally...

I don't always miss Phish shows.....
But when I do, I make sure it is the greatest one ever played.
The Ball???
Terry
Nope, Big Cypress. I was at the Ball. And I wouldn't even hold it up as best played show that summer. In fact, I don't even think it makes my top 30 shows attended. BLASPHEMY!!!!
Yeah, I don't guess Ball was all that hot Playing-wise... But as a first time thing, it was pretty awesome... I didn't make it Cypress either, but I don't consider that the best show ever at all - not by a long shot... I did play the shit out of those discs for a good while, but now I feel playing each song to death is not my style... I suppose if I had been there, I'd hold a different opinion, though...
Terry
as someone who attended neither I would have to say I'm more envious of Cypress attendees than any other shows/runs

The Clifford Ball and Big Cypress were my 1.0 bookends.

Cypress was all about the moment, the environment, that your favorite band was going to play 5 hours straight.......and that none of this would ever happen again. I don't listen to the Cypress shows, but it and Japan 2000 are the only runs in their storied career that I'm really pissed at myself for missing.
Nice
