What did you pay for each night (if you paid over face.)
CUST it up.

Condolences for those who didn't win the lottery and had to pay hundreds. Luckily I got Sunday from the lottery.

$280 for Friday (stubhub) + $150 for Sunday

I'll probably be willing to pay up to 200 for a Saturday ticket, if I can find one at Hampton.

truthfully, I'm a bit ashamed of myself, as I probably should be.  I'll get over it, though.  thankfully I've managed to get all of my summer tix for face.

i just don't see a phish concert being worth that... i'm glad you are happy and stoked to see them, but i'd personally rather throw down 150 for a great meal at a great restaurant.  thats just me

What if the shows were in Minni?

what does that have to do with anything?  i'd still be paying 150 for a ticket.

so i guess the answer is still the same... thats too much for a phish show.  then again, if it were in minni, i doubt i'd be ticketless

it's funny you make that comparison jedi, not that anyone has the "correct" answer but on that gd radio show the other day a caller called in to say pretty much the opposite.

they were talking about the price of "the dead" tickets, and dude was all like "i could go to a resaturant and blow that money on a nice meal only to shit it out the next day. but if i spend that money on a great show it will provide me with memories that will last a lifetime."

i found it interesting.

Are you going to Hampton?

When I saw that they were playing Jones Beach (aside from it being a smaller venue), I knew that there was no way that I'd miss those shows.
It's a hometown show for me.
I got lucky and got tickets thru the lottery, but if I didn't, I'd shell out some l00t.

I realize buying from scalpers is wrong, and I don't plan on making a habit of it.  That being said, if we're just talking about how one chooses to spend their money, I would definitely eat ramen and toast at home for a few weeks if it meant I could see a Phish show.  I'll eat a fancy meal on my birthday.

i agree that what a concert is worth is completely subjective.

me personally?  after all the shows i've seen to pay more than face (which is already too much for a phish show) is too much.

i also firmly believe that i've had dining experiences that far exceed what i've experienced at some concerts, as well as leaving me with a lifetime of memories.

what do you think it should be?

Really?  I've had some amazing food in my day but none of it comes even close to the transcendent experience of a kick ass show.

ok, but we're not talking about kick ass shows here, we're talking about the upcoming hampton shows...

and luckily, i'm over the whole "i HAVE to be there, to be a real fan" thing... these shows have a higher potential to suck than they do to be kick ass shows.

as for face value?  i don't think they should be more than 45... with all the "convenience charges"

and i've had several dining experiences that would rank above a few phish shows i've seen (cincy 00 anyone?)

I have yet to really set a price to a Phish show but probably after Alpine I'd figure it out (Not Hampton since that would be my first and obviously the energy will be incredibly higher than average). Right now I'd probably pay maybe over $250 mainly because I don't want to regret it when they stop again in a few years only to be left with a few extra dollars and a void in my stomach. Let's not forget that there's more than just the tickets involved in the price. Travel, hotel, and certain substances. Although those substances could completely render the money you spent on that memory that lasted a lifetime wasted.

Honestly, I think they have been extremely fair with their ticket prices, and probably could have gotten away with a little bit more.

I'm in the same boat and I got on that boat a while ago primarily because at the time coughing up that much money was not financially possible. Besides the fact they are likely to be on the sloppier side the energy in the mothership on the first night in particular gives me butterflies just thinking about it.

I've resigned myself to the fact I am not going but if I had the financial means I do now I would pay 150-200 for night one and not over 100 for sat or sunday.

I'm interested in this great meal/great show comparison. You can remember both, both are transitory--no basis for argument there.

But I'm not going to Hampton. By the time the dust settled on the public on-sale day, 3 day passes were going for close to a grand, and after settling around $800 for a couple months, they're now well over a grand again. Way out of my league this year. The fact that it's 800 miles away or so is a factor.

But if a kickdown doesn't come my way, I'll end up paying over face for a Jones Beach ticket, to get myself a complete 3-show run.

But back to the meal thing--you take the same gamble on a $300 meal that you do on a $300 concert ticket. I've had extremely high-end meals that were extremely disappointing, after all...

I've spent a couple hundred doing coke and drinking with good friends that were better that Phish shows that I saw.
It is a gamble, tho...the last round of Phish pretty much sucked.

I paid less than a third of that at Souza's in Burlington and it was easily the best meal of my life.

again, its all subjective...  i guess my tastes have changed... the phish doesn't get me as excited as it used to, otherwised, i'd have spent 1000 on the first day.

and i also have no need to "convince myself" of anything.

Why would anyone spend $200-300 on dinner??? That just seems crazy to me....

Phish on the other hand.....

Friday - $350 (eBay)
Saturday - $250 (eBay)
Sunday - Uncle unknowingly bought tickets for me from TicketsNow for $450, but we were completely refunded for face value

yeah, it sucks, but I wouldn't miss these shows for anything in the world.  I would have payed twice what I did if that is what it took. No question about it.

I've been waiting SO long for this!!!

Luckily, I was able to score all my summer tickets for face.

I was hinted towards his virginity but I just assumed the bruises were from something else.

When was your first show, Phan?

Ask me in a month :D

Sweet edit...

ok, but we're not talking about kick ass shows here, we're talking about the upcoming hampton shows...

these shows have a higher potential to suck than they do to be kick ass shows.

i'd be trying to convince myself of that if i wasn't gonna be there too.

Totally what I am doing but I still, on a completely objective rational level, agree that these shows have a greater potential be flops then mind blowing. How many people listen to there nye 02/03 shows? Um ya, no one. Doesn't mean I wouldn't have loved to have been there or wouldn't pay 500ish just for hampton tickets now. It will be the highest energy show possibly ever and there is no other place I would rather be for any amount of money that weekend but I'm willing to bet that after the fact, no one listens to there hampton night one heady board.

I hope your right because it will boost confidence and make the summer tour that much better. Plus, I want everyone to get a good show even if I am missing out.

I said it earlier but I'm not going and I get butterflies just thinking about being in that crowd as the lights go down...I wish I was there for that alone.

of course its a different phish... you're just stupid to think its not.  just in the same way that the 1st return was different phish.

personally i'm just in a different place in my life that phish shows do not warrant the expense, effort, and craziness.

thats why i mentioned that i'm glad i've gotten over my "gotta be there" mentality... as it would just kill me, but....

i'm so totally at peace with not being there... i think a lot of it is that i feel that "i've had my time" with phish, and so now others can have theirs

Honestly, I think they have been extremely fair with their ticket prices, and probably could have gotten away with a little bit more.

QFT

This is evidenced by the amounts some of the n00bs have shelled out for a band that they've never seen before.

Can you blame them after all the fluffing/hyping people like us have done over the years. Any kid who has gotten into phish over the past few years has heard it non stop.

Shit, re-read over everything we have said to Gumbo. The guy blasphemed phish with a U-melt dig. Think that will happen ever again after hampton?

the fluffing/hyping has definitely added to the excitement I'm sure,

I have listened to so, so, SO much damn Phish over the past 4-5 years.

I paid 250 for fri on stubhub and got the next two nights for face. I would have dropped twice that to see them play. Shit, I paid nearly 200 Face to see the sox ALCS game from the monster. They lost, but it was worth it. I paid 150 to see the pats lose to the Jets in OT, it was worth it. I love Phish more than any local sports team. You're damn right Im going to be there when they come back. 250 is a deal.

of course everyone wants to pay face, and it sucks if you can't.

If you are not willing to support scalers that is one thing, but $250 is absolutely worth seeing Phish's first show back if you ask me.

I work as a damn Pizza man and can make that in 2 or 3 nights.  I'm sure that some of you can make that much in a day.

and are you going to all 3 now?

btw, I agree Hampton is going to be insane....Phish means a lot to me, and I have complete faith they will come back after 4.5 years and bring some serious heat.  The 15 times I saw them were all after hiatus, so I'm especially psyched to see what a re-invigorated Phish can do.  I believe it will rock.

first, face value or face plus is just getting you int he doors.  doesn't count the flight or drive and the hotel.  if you have other arrangements, then you are lucky but that adds to it.

personally, for me, the product would have to be worth the hassle.  to throw down $400 for 3 nights plus a flight plus 3 nights of hotel would mean the playing would have to be pretty damn good.

I can see how it would be worth it to a lot of people and I could see how it would not be worth it to a lot of others.  I'm glad the people who think it is worth it are going.

I was definitely geared up to pay around 500 for Friday and Sunday and then check out the town or Kimock on Saturday. I think Agusto had mentioned dropping that on a given night, and all's I had to show was a scratchy throat and a runny nose. Damn right it's gonna be a different Phish, I say one closer to pre than post. They don't need the headache. If things weren't kosher in the band I would hope they would just say F it. I give them credit for having the balls to step away and clean up what ever they had to do for theirselves. That being said it will be left to us to set the price of tickets. Nobody wants Knox and Star Lake so you can grab them for around forty a pop. 3 dayer's for hampton are nearing two grand now!

really?

i guess people have already beaten this one to death, but i havent read through the whole thread.  ive recently thought of things ive spent money on that wouldve been better spent on hampton tickets.  i think food is THE most useless thing you can buy.  150 for food over PHISH?!?!?!  food tastes good for 20 minutes.  then youre done eating.  youd seriously take that over the energy and memories of seeing phishs first shows back?

I hardly ever listen to those shows because they're pretty rough (some good jams), but I value that experience way more than the cost of those 3 tickets.  and the nature of shows is that they're once in a lifetime experiences.  meals aren't ( at that tangent)
I wish I was paid because I would have snatched up a 3 day pass for $8-900 when they first sold out and been confident I was gonna get my money's worth.  but I do think the prices Hamptons currently are going for is nuts and a shame.

really?

i guess people have already beaten this one to death, but i havent read through the whole thread.  ive recently thought of things ive spent money on that wouldve been better spent on hampton tickets.  i think food is THE most useless thing you can buy.  150 for food over PHISH?!?!?!  food tastes good for 20 minutes.  then youre done eating.  youd seriously take that over the energy and memories of seeing phishs first shows back?

I really don't see how anyone can make a judgment call on anyone else for how much cash they spent on tix. Speaking purely objectively, no two people are the same - everyone has different jobs, we're all different ages, and most importantly, the 'value' of our money is totally different to each of us. To those who can afford to shell out the $ to see phish - awesome. To those who couldn't/didn't want to/didn't think it was worth it/whatever, don't be bitter about it. Spare us your rationalizations on why it's OK you won't be there.

Him, Mr. Pennypacker and Kel Varnsen could work on that after they finish watching the Mets game (at the open house for the apartment they know they're not buying).

Not only false but a bit presumptuous.  You honestly think they're going to come back after the disastrous end that was Coventry and play "rusty"?  If so...  you need to put the crackpipe down, pronto.

Hell, I paid that much to see the Rolling Stones 10 years ago and that was paying face for the ticket.  But to the subject, I think that if you can afford it and are willing to pay whatever for tickets, go for it.  It's your money, this is a free country and if that's what you want to use it for that's your right.  I can't go but if I could and didn't get lottery or from the on-sale, I would only pay double face at the max for a ticket, but that's just me.  If they were coming back and playing my home town, there isn't a price I wouldn't pay to get in, but that's only if it was were I could sleep in my own bed every night.  And as far as a meal not being a once in a lifetime opportunity, I have to say that that is false.  I still remember vividly the best meal I have ever had in my life when I was in Venice in '94 on vacation, unfortunately in was at a little restaurant on one of the smaller islands away from any of the tourist areas and a place that I will never be able find again.  I was without a doubt the best meal I have ever had and anything else will be hard pressed to beat it and I will certainly remember it.  But that's just me.

ok, but we're not talking about kick ass shows here, we're talking about the upcoming hampton shows...

and luckily, i'm over the whole "i HAVE to be there, to be a real fan" thing... these shows have a higher potential to suck than they do to be kick ass shows.

as for face value?  i don't think they should be more than 45... with all the "convenience charges"

and i've had several dining experiences that would rank above a few phish shows i've seen (cincy 00 anyone?)

no kidding,

pay that much to gamble for a clifford ball like experience or for trey to act like a wannabe rockstar

take your pick.

tickets arent worth that imo, you could have a better experience with an instrument and some friends in your own basement.

and people... dont diss the culinary arts. please.

First, because you are a Phish "vet" does not necessarily mean that these upcoming shows hold less importance. I believe for some of us, this just might be the opposite. I have been seeing this band since the early 90's (Wetlands 1990 my first) and I consider these shows priceless. I attend shows for several reasons and I believe, while in Hampton, Phish will most likely attempt to tick every box on that checklist.

-I want to be emotionally moved, this includes goosebumps. (guaranteed with the first night opener and last night encore)

-I want to be around people I enjoy (I spend my professional, money making life around pretty stiff individuals)

-I want to be reminded of memories that I long to get back in touch with (I have seen amazing Dead and Phish shows in Hampton, I have accomplished a lot of things since these shows. As such, the trip to Hampton will be a great time for me to look back on my life....something that always happens when one comes down after a show)

-I want to hear virtuoso music (I, like August, believe the boys are not taking this lightly, they are going to blow peoples fucking minds, and if you doubt it, you are a fool)

-I want a psychedelic experience around other psychonauts

-I want a three day voyage off the face of this planet and away from the worries and trappings of everyday life (a three day run will usually do that)

-I want to meet new people to laugh and have a good time with, noobs and vets

-I want to do the hippie dance, something white middle age men don't do at most clubs in my town without getting the shit kicked out of them or being in a gay night club.

-Finally, I am hoping Phish bring me to "IT". The magic moment that allows me to exit a show and say to myself "If I died right now, everything would be okay.......because I understand". This is always a gamble, but so is everything in life. If you have giving up on gambling, then I like to believe you have given up on life.

For all the reasons above, admission is priceless. Although I did score them at:

230 first night
220 second night
150 last night

......and I would of paid double, even triple....and consider I have seen over 150 shows.

EDIT: PRICES ABOVE INCLUDE SERVICE CHARGES AND INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING. TECHNICALLY, THEY WERE ALL UNDER  200

i would agree 100% with what has been said here... i feel the same way about phish shows.  i just don't personally believe that getting this is worth the $$$ i'd have to pay for it.

plain and simple, i'm not rationalizing my decision, or being a hater... just stating a simple fact that i am no longer willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money for the experience (personal feelings on ticket prices).

i also do not think this makes me less of a fan, it simply means i have different views and priorities in my life now.  thats it

To me, this thread seemed geared at finding out how much dough people threw down to get inside Hampton, which I still think is really none of our business.  After all, that's exactly the title of the thread.

It's kind of like starting a 'who is the wealthiest 'paug member' thread.  Sure, no one would be forced to admit their financial information, but what business is it of ours to even ask?

"Come Clean" just seems like it's geared toward embarrassment for some.

OK, OK, OK---

This is what got me involved in this thread in the first place... Since when is an expensive MEAL a guaranteed good time? Up there a ways someone called jedi and others out for paying for food at all--I have to assume that was about paying restaurant prices, b/c food ain't free, even if you grow it yourself.

That said, as a long-time restaurant worker, front & back of house, high end mostly, I have to say now b/c it hasn't been already, a meal's cost doesn't necessarily reflect its quality. Now, a known restaurant, known chef, can make the meal closer to a sure thing, but even your favorite place can have an off night.

There. It's an obvious truism, but there's been to much silliness in this thread up to now.
[/soapbox]

Please return to your regularly scheduled interwebbery.

Dude saw a lot of shows and probably doesn't want to put up with the BS of getting to a show and everything else that goes with being at a show.
It's still Phish that we're seeing...it's not like they're gonna do something that has never been done before. They're gonna come out and play (mostly) the same stuff and people will have fun.

I'm am now in a position where I can see a few shows and not have to take too much time off. A big factor of seeing these shows is meeting up with old and new friends.

I wouldn't think someone was crazy if they didn't go see Phish  but instead got a ball and an Asian for $500.

yes, exactly aug... and i AM seeing them at alpine (maybe DC) and probably the gorge when that happens...

i suppose this took the turn when i made my first comments, since that wasn't the intent of this thread.

but like most things interweb, we've spun the web so well that we are no longer talking about the original topic.

either way, i'm stoked for those going, and i'm stoked to see them at alpine... i'm just not going to pay that much to see them.

also i will add that i've only ever paid over face once (hartford 97 - $45) and in seeing the 170+ shows that i've seen i would also have never been willing to pay more than that... only less!

Seriously though...  I can think of a couple of shows I saw PH that were definitely worth face value.  Not all of them were but some of them had some killer moments.

Friday: $275.00 stubhub
Saturday: $250 ebay
Sunday: Face value from friend who got the lottery

Not at all bothered by that, except for I still don;t have any tix in my possesion.  Still, I paid $200 for one night of radio City and $200 for the Phil and Phriends Warfield shows.  Sometimes you have to do that.  I also factor in the Sunday face value tickets which make it a little easier to swallow.  Plus I paid for it all in october, so I have forgotten all about it by now.  plus, I have probably been guestlisted for at least 50 shows (+1), so it all works out in the end.  I wouldn't miss this shit for the world, even if I had to harvest one of my organs....

Once they sold out i gave up hope, no sense it dishing out 200+ for a ticket when you know they will be playing everywhere, in due time. We all waited this long for them to get back, whats a couple months - nothing.

I saw a quote in the topic saying that someone would rather pay more money on a show than some food. I say the same thing, I go to all these concerts for two reasons: 1. to see the band and 2. the experience/memories that will be etched into your brain for ever and there's nothing more euphoric than that. over buying a 200 dollar steak dinner that will be through the system in about 3 hours. But everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

I'll pay for my Phish tix and let my Dad take me Chantrelle.....In fact, I missed the Rock and Roll opener of 12/29/98 because I had to go to Jean George with my family.  I much would have rather seen that opener....to each their own.  Although, I must admit, that show was a little better after a couple of $450 bottles of wine.....

I paid $140 to see the Who a few years back and have forked out $100 for a single ticket to the Stones and those were at the box office so I feel $49.50 a ticket is pretty damn reasonable.  That being said, I'd probably be willing to pay $100 - $150 per show, it's just all the travelling expenses that rule it out for me.  Hotels, party treats, gas, etc. would equal a $1500 trip easily for myself.

So far the highest offer I've gotten is $300 per ticket....$900 for the run.....

Im still trying to get my Hampton tickets so who knows what I am going to pay.  But... these shows are top priority for me at the moment.  With all these health issues going on with me currently I am starting to think on a show-by-show basis.  Hampton first.. then everything else.  Starting to realize that summer is kinda far off for me to guarantee myself that I can do those shows.   But at least I have the tickets  :-D

Don't worry about Stubhub, they are licensed and have licensed brokers that must adhere to very specific rules and standards. BUT never buy tickets off ebay, you have absolutely no recourse if something goes wrong (aside from getting your money back). Unfortunately, if something goes wrong on ebay, it is generally right before the show at a time when re-sellers tickets are sky rocket high. (By the way, ebay owns stubhub)

I'll figure it out...now I am worried about my stubhub tix for Friday......that's the show I really need to be inside for....figured if I paid 4 months in advance it would be all good.....guess not...

Just from personal experience with Ebay, if you are careful you should be good to go. I always get a phone number from the seller and set up a few contacts before I put the payment through. I grabbed Star Lake pavilions for below face and DC lower pavilions 10 rows deep for a reasonable price. We won't talk about the Fox tickets. I'm not saying everyone you deal with is gone to be honest, but if you use your judgement, develop a rapport with the seller and feel comfortable then you should be alright. Now, I have all the tickets in hand on the auctions I won so I can say I had a good experience. Waiting for the tickets was a different story. :?     :phish:

I have been using eBay since 2001, and have done about 400 transactions (about 10-15 of those were concert tickets.).  This is the first one that ever went south on me.

Seems like every hyped show theres been. ie: The Dead show @ Penn State, Phil/Ratdog NYE where people have been just walking in. Theres going to be so much chaos ill get in ;), if not I need a inside pauger to help me open some secret door, im even down for climbing down from the top. once I have some wiskey in me it seems to go swell, and if I get taken out..... O well at least i tried, and if I do get it ill laugh at the people who paid 400 for their ticket. Where there is a will there's a way.
My way of sticking it to the man (livenation that is)

umm...
I'm gonna go ahead and say the responsible thing.

If you do not have tickets, you should not be trying to get in.

Get a ticket and come in and rock out.

Personally, I do not want Phish getting banned by the city due to a few 'bad apples'

id take a punch to the face to see phish no problem......

and you just dont rush the gate you sneak in while someone else is going in at the same time, seen it before, works like a charm.

although I would throw that punch as well, but like I said id take a broken jaw just to see phish in hampton

and I am waiting for Alpine and Bonnaroo.

are you drunk on your whiskey right now bro?

first of all, you didnt answer my question: you havent seen phish before right?

secondly., the above post is idiotic at best.
part one about bum rushing: i can tell you dont have the balls to do it right now, even with your whiskey!
--or if you were actually serious  , thats not exactly the "cool" thing to do- especially if you've never even seen the band--- what a way to start your show karma off.

and finally about the hanging with the exp. heads that have got in blah blah blah shows... wow, that sounds like a great plan dude.

SEr., i dont want to bash you, but WTF are you talking about?

i'm not gonna tell you to not show up because you dont have tickets, but my advice would be that if you are going to show up to possibly your first show without tickets...gee that sounds stupid already... anyway, just dont show up with a plan on how you are going to scam your way in, maybe just have a good time and if by some pure dumb luck you get in, then cool. more than likely you'll be so blown away by the scene that you'll forget all about gettin in the show anyway. just dont ruin anythign for all of the other heads that DO know what they are getting into and have put mad effort and love into having a good weekend.

everyone else who got my screen cap of rj's accidental post got quite a kick outta it

I'm sure it was a laugh RIOT!

I have children that sometimes sit at the computer with me.  When I go to my private messages and someone has sent me a message with a gay porn picture in it, I don't laugh.  You're too stupid to realize that apparently.

First of all, that post of a week or more ago was an accident caused by a site that does not allow hotlinking. The images were removed from this site as soon as it was known to a mod what was being displayed.

Secondly, distributing a screen cap of that filth, deliberately, is NOT ACCEPTABLE ON THIS SITE.

Not cool, mbw.

I'm not embarrassed about an accident, I'm appalled that you'd send it to someone who did not ask for it.
