loved it! maybe there is something to the 4th night of the new years run not being on new years. boys were on fire!
Favorite night of the run! Yeah Phish! :phish:
Am I still the only one who loves what they are doing with Melt in 3.0?
I haven't listened back but I loved this jam! I remember Trey really messing up the composed section and they were all pretty unsure of the correct rhythym towards the end of the jam but whatever. I love these 3.0 dissonant, disjointed, dark, psychedelic jams. It's a completely unique jamming style and I dig it!
Second set had some sick shit....tuned it at end of first. The DWD went places for sure. Have not listened to every second of every show but most of all of it. Second set last night was easily highlight of the run imo.
2nd set looks good.
Glad they dropped a big jam.
Can't wait to see what Summer tour looks like. I guess they are taking it easy this year.
Bummed there's no Phish til Summer.
I honestly thought the DWD was the worst crap ever.....that jam was SO bad....Trey looked and sounded like a lost cause for most of it.....but, then after that for some reason he came back and smoked the rest of the set.....
Someone give that guy some drugs already.....we need some consistency.

I need to spin that today...people were creaming themselves over that DWD in the twitterverse

Sorry, I'm not with you on this. I have been totally disappointed with SOAM for pretty much all of 3.0. I still don't get the fuss over the SPAC version from last year. I've only seen one SOAM out of the 3.0 shows I've hit - 6/25/10 - and that wasn't happening. While I haven't heard this night's version or the 2 from fall tour, I doubt they will change my view on 3.0 SOAMs.
I could take or leave 3.0 Melts.
eta: I will take this one.
I'm up to DTOAD on this show so far and it's been a dang solid first set.
I had to bail on the run after 3 nights (call it a compromise with the wife) but my liver thanks me and we got to drive to the gulf coast and see some family anyway, so I shouldn't complain too much.
Damn, even this Zero is pretty rad.
halfway through this disease and there is def some substance.
I like how the jam carries some momentum but also creates its one jam beast.
Kinda like tropical slowed down reggae-ish beach jam like low-rider ish I dig it.
- > nice space jam > some insane trey shreddage!! woah! :rawk:
havent heard something like that in a while, the forum dwd has little hints
and even sinks back into a nice relaxed jam
Love the furious, Manteca-laced peak this Disease builds to and the patient, psych-funk syncopated denouement on the other side.

I'm thinking you need to change your dosage.
This DWD is the stuff.
light jam had some unique stuff in it and that transition to sally is so hot!
Page and trey were locked in during that transition.

i am def. a fan of some 3.0 melts. this one didn't blow my socks off, but i hear you about the disjointed dark jams. if done right, it kinda makes you want to puke...love it!

I dunno, I was feeling it. Have not listened since the stream, but I dig it while it was going down.

I listened again and can confirm that the DWD is indeed the goods.
I didn't hear most of SOAM but the ending was lol-worthy.
IMO Split has only worked a couple of times in 3.0 and the SPAC version wasn't one of them, I remember it being a bucket of noisy slop.
I did like the version from the Gorge in 2013 though, probably because they played it safe and stuck the ending.
Finally getting around to listening to this. Went straight to the SOAM.......
:tte:
On to the DWD.....
Sorry but I still think the DWD was weaksauce....it wasn't a train wreck, but it had NO balls whatsoever.....I mean a 2 note hammer on for the peak?......weak.
After they leave the theme of DWD, it does get interesting...but the actual DWD outro jam is weaksauce.
Yeah fuck that one hammer-on in a 26 minute stretch of awesome.
again, I argue my point, the song sucked....the "jam" portion of the song sucked......
the actual Jam after, was good.
Also, not to rag, but I do not hear any such tease of Manteca in this AT ALL.....
If anything it almost sounds like Trey is leaning towards Blister In The Sun with the theme of his solo.....revist SPAC 2012 to hear what I hear in the solo on this DWD.
Theres some slop in the beginning and little outta sync but the jam makes up for it imo. (10:40 mark)
They start firing on all cylinders

Maybe we aren't using the same vocabulary here... When we say "this DWD ruled" most of us are talking about the entire 26-minute performance, or at least, the whole thing on balance which is being heavily influenced by where the jam goes. Is your beef with just the composed part, or the immediate DWD solo, or the whole thing?
Similarly, are you saying you don't hear Manteca in the peak c. 20 mins+ or in the "DWD solo" much earlier? I, for one, was talking about the later jam peak when pointing out the Manteca infusion.
I wasn't overly impressed with DwD, it has 2, maybe 3 nice passages but par for the course overall. Like emay said the Light has some nice improv.
Upon second listen, I am not that blown away by the DWD. It's not the worst but there are better 3.0 versions out there. I think I like the second set of NYE better than the second set of this night.

Took a second listen today as well. There is a decent amount of filler for killer ratio in this jam, but the murderous parts are delicious. Kind of felt this way about the Sand>Tweezer Reprise from 10-31.
I'm still liking the NYE Set 2 and the Mike's Groove from 01-02 as the best parts of this run.
Wasn't a huge fan of this night but I wasn't in a great headspace during this show. Aside from being a tired old man I was high as hell off a mix of different goodies we picked up in the lot. The mix was not treating me right. Taking an important business call in the midst of set two didn't make things any easier.i actually thought the jam in DWD was a completely new song
So with this in mind I thought NYE II and 12/2 II were the best sets of the run.

Even Charlie Dirksen has posited that the Jam in the middle seems composed and was possibly a Halloween outtake.
But he's known for hearing things that weren't there.
Trey seems awfully pedestrian in his DWD Type I jamming. The Type II stuff that follows though is explosive, melodic and awesome.

The 1/3 backlash begins! Now I feel a little less bad about missing it.
I really liked this Disease. Unquestionably, one of the highlights of the run. It's definitely not a Trey led jam, so if that is what you're seeking, then you will inevitably be disappointed. But Trey led many jams over the course of the run, so handing the reigns to Page and Mike, who, let's be honest, craft much more melodic soundscapes of late, is money in my books.
Also, this Disease wasn't intended to be a shred fest.....its jam is a major key dancing groove and was just what the doc ordered. The venue was getting down hard. As for the Manteca jam.....I don't hear it at all. I'd say Mar is correct, however, in stating that the jam is very familiar, a permutation of which I have heard before. I was at the Blister in the Sun show, so will have to revisit it.
Holy smokes this DWD is some ser biz.
Prob one of the best jams of 2015 (also why this thread is in the 2014 post thread discussions...) but the jam starts to fizzle and page keeps it going and the rest of the band jumps on.
Trey has some insane 1.0 shreddage going on at the end of this jam
