6/19 is a must have IMO, I'll second 6/20 and 8/12 as well, although 8/12 could be a sentimental pick as it was the last "real" Phish show I saw.  6/18 is pretty fun too.

yeah, 8-12-04 was my last show ever.
i know you did Coventry..i get what you're saying.

the June shows were pretty good.
i love the second set from the 20th, as well as the 25th, although the first set from the 25th is kinda sloppy.
by kinda, i mean it is.
brooklyn was fun, i'm glad i was there to rep.

6/19 gets another vote.  And I'll throw in a vote for 6/25.

I haven't listened to any recordings.  But I know I enjoyed the 1st night at Deer Creek and the 2nd night of Great Woods.

6/26/04 II (my last hurrah) is pretty damn good, though it took me a long time to get past the flubs in the dark section of Hood.

set II on 6/25 is my favorite set of '04.
set I 6/26.
the piper on 6/19 makes the whole show worth it.
set II 6/20 is good, but not as good as it thinks it is.

there are good songs from august, but not really any great sets.

i don't think i have heard any of the 04 shows and my best friend saw em all...he never really talks about that tour...hmmmmm...i did see a few 03 shows and i really liked a jam of walls of the cave in which i felt like the jam was supposed to sound like we were in a cave...i think ck5 and the lsd may have helped my perception on that one!  Also scents and subtle sounds had a chance, but cest la vie

I just asked about PH a few weeks ago in a thread and got some great recommendations. For '04 I got the SPAC shows 6/19 and 6/20. Both are great IMO and are worth getting from LP. Everyone has different opinions of what's good of course but I have to say that these are very interesting shows.

The Brooklyn shows were intimate around 7 thousand and I felt privilaged to be there, got my only camel walk  and my only kung The divided sky encore the first nite was amazing and unexpected.  I didnt make it to SPAC but those shows are prob the strongest of the tour IMHO
deer creek 04 was a good time, The Crosseyed and Painless was insane and the tube the following night was great!
The Camden show right b4 conventry was good but to some a let down because they thought they would let it all hang out for the last official two set Phish show. I skipped the second nite of camden in 03 to get to IT early and regret it to this day, The boys rewarded those who stayed with an amazing show.

I saw every '04 show except Great Woods.....Brooklyn was fun, cause that was a hometown show and I love the Cyclones/Keyspan/Coney anyway, so even if the shows blew, I would have had fun.  They were pretty good, but a little uneven.  Hampton was dog shit on a shoe.  Camden had some great spots, so did SPAC, both were fun though, but neither raged.  Vegas '04 was suck in my opinion.  I really like the Alpine shows, especially the 25th.  My fave shows of  '04 would be Alpine and Brooklyn, but most shows (except Hampton and Vegas) had something to offer, even Coventry (not the first night, that's the all-time worst....)  Just my opinion though.....

well i did this whole tour and by far for me was 8/10. it was like i jumped back in time to 1994. 8/11 wasent bad i liked it.

I saw every '04 show... the best was definitely from June, not August.

So... maybe one of the Alpine shows?  Tough call for sure.

another vote for 6/19, also a weaker vote for 6/26
was at 8/10, 11. I like 8/10 a lot more to listen to now, although 8/11 was more fun to be at.

i did Vegas, Brooklyn, SPAC, and Camden (and made it to about 25 miles from Coventry when the State Police turned us around on the highway...)

of those, i'd suggest, in order:

6/19
6/20
8/12
6/18
6/17
4/15-17

6-18: Tweezer, Taste, Chalkdust Torture
6-19: Reba, PIPER!!!!!!!, Limb By Limb
6-20: Drowned>Saratoga Jam, Ghost>Twist
8-13: Coventry Soundcheck!!!! <---that shit is great

yes. unfortunately as most of '04 composed songs do....however, any true reba fan knows its all about the JAM
Title: Re: best '04 shows?
Post by: sophist on February 15, 2007, 11:29:50 AM
Which is why all Reba's follow the same jam format
Its about the composition, like many of the early Fugue songs.  A song like Ghost, DWD, Twist, etc are about the jam or jams, they were meant to be jammed.

They might as well skip the composition if it doesn't matter, and just play the jam

I'll add that I'm a stickler for the compositinal material, I love to hear it played correctly, since some of it is very difficult to perform correctly.

yes me too, but i must say that a sloppy composed reba can be saved by an incredible jam

While the first 8 minutes is almost unlistenable, the Miami NYE Reba is pure magic after the composed section.

yeah, obivously they aren't going to play a comp section as tight as they did when they practiced 8 hours a day and did 5 shows a week.  Reba is a great example of one that is all about the jam.  I mean, the composed part is great, but if you have seen it 50 times than it is all about the jam.  Granted, when they DO nail it, it makes you pay attention, but I think anybody would agree that as long as the jam rips, all is forgiven in regards to a flubbed comp section (see Hampton 1/3/03 YEM)...but, you can take a song like Mockingbird, that has no jam, and if that is flubbed than it sucks.  If they nail it, it rules.....

It's great when they redeem themselves, however there was a time when they got it ALL right consistantly, jam, comp,  the whole kit and kaboodle, I never find myself listening to much post hiatus for this reason

Of course, the jams are a major factor in why I like to listen to phish, but I love the composed sections of Phish, and when I listen to them I expect to hear the composed sections correctly. I can forgive a missed note here and there, but when I hear the PH phish I feel embarassed for the band during the composed sections. As for the jams...

As far as favourite shows, 6/19 is an obvious choice, the Headphones jam from LP is also kickass.

This may not be the place for it, but an '04 jam compiliation would be nice... :-D

For future reference you might want to keep your problem of being "too big" in private, it doesn't help the self esteem of the rest of us.
