My wife has it in her mind to replace our (perfectly functional) Ikea TV/media cabinet.

The problem we're running into, over and over, is that this kind of furniture nowadays is apparently just not built to accommodate the usual A/V equipment and its share of surround speakers. The shelves are too short or too few, or not spaced right for a center speaker, or there's no place for the front L and R, or there are a bunch of doors to block your sound and/or remote signals, and/or the sizes just aren't right for our space, etc. etc.

I've been frankly surprised by the difficulty in this attempt at straightforward replacement.

Anyone with recent experience in this matter able to commiserate or inspire? One thing I'm not trying to do right now is ditch our receiver and go to a soundbar setup just because that seems to be the paradigm that furniture-makers are responding to at the moment.

This is what we use and it might fit your speakers if you don't put the cabinet doors on when you build it.

They also have a matching Record Shelf that is amazing for storing vinyl.

I say you just build one and impress the pants right off her.

Don't put your front l/r speakers in a cabinet.

Just don't.

Indeed. That's a no-go. Ikea refurbish is not an option?

I build the current speaker stands. I haven't worn pants since.

I recently got this for my new spot. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/brimnes-tv-unit-black-70409873/

I have 2 standard full size bookshelf speakers, probably 2.5 feet tall. And then my TV is a 55", there's about an inch gap between the TV and the speakers even when they're toed in a tiny bit. Then I have to a Yamaha A-S700 receiver in one of the cubbies, it's a little tight front to back, but if you get right angle connectors for the cables that stick out the most. For me my banana plugs for my speakers needed to be swapped to right angle to fit well. Lots of good cable management in this TV stand

I don't know... I was on the roof this summer trimming a Japanese Maple that started to grow over the roof and that seemed to impress Dagny in that way. Or she could have just been happy that I didn't die while standing on a sloped roof with some hedge trimmers and a pair of tree-trimmers. Kinda like a "He's so stupid he might die tomorrow, so I better get some while I can" type of thing.

That configuration looks intriguing to me. I'd have to see about the width. This stuff all lives in a corner, at an angle, and it can't be too wide or it juts out to where that wall ends to open up into a hallway.
