My name is Rufus, and that's the trufus.
Sure seemed like it. Who's song is Summer of '89?
Looks alright and it looks like I should get a Reba @ Camden or MPP, so I am pumped, espec. if this version was good. I don't need epic, all I need is good.
And what's with STFTFP being as set closers?? Interesting, and my tweeprize from Hershey got completed, funny stuff and cool. Did Trey say it was for Hershey?
Onto SPAC.......Cool. Have a good night people.

double Tweeprise is fn awesome... my buddy just texted me with simply "2"... ha
Summer of '89 is definitely not a cover of Drowning Fish. I just listened to that on youtube and it is in no way similar at all other than the title.

Whew. That's good to hear. Crappy lyrics pasted above = deleted.
And agreed about that encore. That was something else. Sounds like the band was having a lot of fun tonight.
Stoners at LP.com have Possum and Moma on the same track. :shakehead:
Upon first look I was all :-o 16 minute Possum!!!!! But sadly no. just stoned lp employees.
Too tired to say much but I gotta say tonight was awesome!! And Stealing Time was great as the 2nd set closer. Tweezer Reprise x2 is up there with Sabotage at Lemonwheel as far as seeing a Phish crowd go nuts!

Last time Phish played Tweezer Reprise twice in a show was 1995-12-15 Philly (http://phish.net/setlists/?d=1995-12-15).
I was there.

It's time to give Reba the Divided Sky treatment. Memorize it. Ask Shapiro for a tape with a nice sounding Reba that isn't too over-the-top-difficult and learn it. Or put it on the shelf. Either way. Just stop f---ing with my Reba. I don't want to hear it for old times' sake. I want to hear it because it's pretty.
*sigh*

and about to go listen to the double Tweeprise encore.
just listened to the tweezer reprises.
hilarious.
the first one is nailed, it sounds great.
the second sounds like trey is drunk off his ass or something. he's all over the place. yet somehow that just makes it all the more perfect.
excited to check out the rest of this show...
The second TweePrise is sloptacular but fun as hell.
After a quick run through of the show...
I dig the Fee opener
Like the wolfman's
Hood isn't bad
Reba is meh
Tweezer is pretty cool
Theme was botched big time...hard for me to forgive that one.
Stealing time to end a set (again?)
Double tweeprise sounds fun, but that's about the only thing that stands out for me.
I'm sure the show was fun to be at, but were people really saying best set list of 3.0? Seems pretty standard to me, minus the double tweeprise

I feel the same way. Best set list of 3.0? Not by a long shot IMO. The Tweez was pretty cool, but I have only listened to it once. Wolfman's wasn't bad. I thought Trey hit some pretty cool licks at times during the Reba. Double Tweeprise was cool, but overall pretty mediocre show.
I like this show.
This, like everything else this tour sorta rides the wave bubbling around the level of awesome; sometimes peaking above it, sometimes down in the trough below.
summer of 89 sounds like "can you feel the love tonight"
The sloppy second reprise would be due to Trey jumping/running around stage like a complete maniac, and at one point jumping to his knees, leaning back and rocking out like a rock star. Shit was wild.
Fun show, besides the encore, pretty standard 3.0, but fun times were had.

I wish the band were writing new material, but I'll settle for Trey. I got my nostalgia fix last fall. At this point I'd rather hear Trey play something he wants to play and play it well than hear Trey play what
I want to hear and torture it.

I don't know if he has really lost his chops... It sounds to me that he is just plaguing himself with his whammy toy... When he lets loose and plays without it he just rifles down the notes, but he is just getting caught up trying to play with the added element of the whammy... I don't know why he wants to shoot for that whiny sound tho and peak out with the Whale Calls, but he is, I think its detracting from his ability and the sound obviously, but not because he just is trying to cover up that he can't do it anymore...

QuoteWell at least we know that Trey was having a whale of a time...

On 2nd thought, I should leave the photochopping to the pros. Leaving the 'doc hidden makes it look kind of vulgar... :-o

I definitely think Trey is still completely sober.
The man is just having fun!
Kill Devil Falls: "Reached for a beer, glad that I'm here..."
wrong lyricist
But the song is all about trey trying to stay sober, no? Correct me if i'm wrong...I don't know too much about the lyrics to the Joy tunes.
either do i, but i can def see now how that would make sense. maybe he reached for a beer, but its no longer around? guess that would make it a pro sobriety song.....except the 'until i do it again'
Quote from: rowjimmy on June 19, 2010, 03:30:31 PM
Pretty sure that song is more about fidelity than sobriety.
on the surface yes, but tom is pretty crafty. i also think horn is a relationship veiled drug reference.
I always thought KDF was pretty straightforward lyrically... The protagonist (not
necessarily Trey, but let's be realistic) is an addict trying to rationalize neglect of his gf/wife, saying that he's sorry and he "learned his lesson" but is recognizing that in spite of what he's saying now he'll probably "do it again" anyway.
I never even considered it being a pro-drug song, more of an ironic look back at his pre-sobriety self and a recognition of the self-delusion that went along with it. "Don't go back to Kill Devil Falls" doesn't really indicate to me that it's an approving look back.

this second twiprise is one of the greatest things i've ever heard.

It was amazing. Don't listen to the haterz. Again, Hartford delivers with the energy...
Wish I could have been at SPAC for 4 tweeprises in like 24 hours...

Hartford energy was amazing for both shows.
Definitely looks like it was a lot of fun... I can see how if you just listened to the tapes, the flubbery in the second Tweeprise would be puzzling/disappointing. But not a big deal in the video, says I.

And I.
That 'dead' spot in the 2nd tweeprise is Trey tripping on his cord and trying not to faceplant. You gotta give him that one. :-D

which might explainwhy they then decided to do it twice more over the next 24 hours. I was thinking, maybe he just
wants needs to have some fun and loosen up, and this is how he did it.

*sigh*
edit:
I'm not breaking out the haterade. This was a nice show. This is probably all on me. The head knows that its old favorite song is the new shitbreak, but the heart just won't listen...
I'll see your Reba, and raise you a Mike's Song and Prince Caspian.
I
Fee - Nice opener
Rift - A bit flawed, but okay
Wolfman's Brah - Good stuff
Summer of '89 - I like the crowd's response to Trey singing about the Summer of '95
Foam - Yes, more like this please. Thumbs up!
Possum - Nice
Moma - Solid.
Julius - Trey forgets how to end it....twice.
Reba - Looks like they've got the composed section down nicely. That makes me happy. Good, but not great jam.
Cavern - To close it out.
Not a bad first set.
II
Halley's - Solid, with a quick solo and right into:
Light - One of the better 3.0 tunes. Nice jam.
Billy Breathes - Didn't see that one coming. A bit of a different arrangement. Not my favorite, but since it's a rarity (kickdown?), I can dig it.
Tweezer - Slap-happy Mike! Trey adds the delay pedal to his whale calling. Double your whale! Nothing really notworthy here. 3.0 noodling.
Theme - Trey abandons the ascending run and just starts his solo instead. Otherwise an okay version.
Harry Hood - A bit of a struggle at the end of the composed section. The jam isn't out of the ordinary.
Velvet Sea - was waded in
Stealing Time - To close out the set?
Sleeping Monkey - We're an all-request band. Love it. "This if for you guy with the sign!"
Tweeprise x2 - Pretty hilarious actually. Must've been a blast to have been there for.
Love the encore. Otherwise it's not exactly chock full of highlights.

hmmm, not too sure about the Haley's>Light>BB, the Haley's is like premature ejaculation and light is not at the end of the tunnel, short and then into sleeep. not hating on BB, but not in the three spot when coming after only 15 min of set 2... :|
Almost forgot to thank Shoreline for the MIRACLE to this show!
Thanks again, dude! :-)
