I ordered mine through best buy as well. Even with the fastest shipping option the order was only 58 bucks or so. That's still 20 bucks cheaper than dry goods has it. With so many people ordering through dry goods, those bonus items are going to be far from rare.

Man I should have thought of that. I think I heard that it was illegal to run a contest where a purchase is required without applying gambling laws as well.
Good looking out.
:fingers crossed for the contest:
Announcements are today, right? Did they say what time?
No, I think the website said that they would announce the winners 5 days after or something like that.
Oh, right....from the website:
Quote
Prize Deadlines. All entries for the Contest must be received by Musictoday on or before: 2/17/2009 9:00:00 PM Eastern. Winner will be selected from a random drawing scheduled to be held five (5) days after the deadline.
Winner Selection and Notification. The odds of winning are dependent upon the number of eligible entries received. Any attempted second entry shall be discarded, and the entrant may be disqualified from the Contest. All drawings will be conducted under the supervision of Musictoday. The decisions of Musictoday are final and binding in all matters relating to this Contest. Entries are the property of Musictoday and will not be returned. Entrants need not be present at the drawing to win a prize. Winner will be notified by phone, e-mail or United States mail. If a winner cannot be reached after a reasonable effort has been made within five (5) business days of Musictoday's first attempt, or if an entrant is found to be ineligible, an alternate winner may be selected.

Mine's left Roanoke...should be in Knox today, with any luck I'll have it tomorrow or the next day!
Proximity to Charlottesville pays off.
So....
Quote1,500 random orders will also receive original Clifford Ball camping tickets, an original festival map, or satin sticky Clifford Ball backstage passes.
but since my e-mail receipt only says
QuoteQty Ord Qty Ship Qty BO Qty Canc Ext Price Sku/Item Description
1 1 0 0 $.00 PHAM128/PR Clifford Ball Bonus Pack
1 1 0 0 $79.00 PHAM131DVD/PR The Clifford Ball DVD Box Set
1 1 0 0 $.00 PHAS06RD/Phish Sticker or Postcard
I'm guessing I wasn't one of the lucky 1,500. Rats! Out of my ticket stub collection, the Clifford Ball PTBM tickets are the only stubs I'm missing. I left them in my buddy's glove compartment and he subsequently totalled his truck.
Die hard Clifford Ball fans aren't going to like this, but I have a theory about this release 1 week before the return. Basically they are setting the bar not too high by getting everyone to watch and listen to the ball. While they are extremely popular shows, and well played, nothing crazy happens, and they were very nervous. They wouldn't release Hampton 97 or a run from 94-95 or something that displays super human playing and set the bar extremely high. Basically It's the perfect choice.
Then there is the obvious, The Ball was a great time in Phishtory and watching it will just provoke even more positive energy going into the shows. I remember watching live in Vegas before the last return and it reminded me just how damn special it is to have the opportunity to see Phish perform.
meh
product release = money.
product release + live shows = more money
That's about as far into it as one really needs to read.
Yep. Even our heroes practice capitalism. Maybe not directly but I think you all get the point.

Cypress would take up more than 8 DVDs. And who cares if they picked the Ball over something else?
You know just as well as I do they've got tons more material they're going to release in the future.
Let's just see what happens.

I hope they wait long enough that they could release it cheaply in Blue-Ray.
That would significantly cut down on the amount of discs.

I've only watched the entire Bonus disc but there was some great stuff on there. I loved all the interviews they had with all of them and it was hilarious to hear them talk about wanting to break the world record for the LG (Longest Gig) It was also cool to watch them as they were watching themselves and doing commentary.
Pretty much all the extras on that DVD were great, I loved all the soundcheck as well.
:phish:
After the first two DVD's all i can say is WOW this is soooo good. I was having seconds thoughts on spending so much money for this but I have no regrets at all. I got the magnets mens shirts and the poster. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome.

they'll be streaming this again on LivePhish.com today at 2pm est
I only had a few minutes to check it out and I put on Reba, i thought it was fantastic. Given it's 12 years old, the audio was fantastic and i thought the video was just as good. All the nice packaging and extra junk like ticket stubs, photos, post cards, wrist bands, schvices was all cool extras as well. This product exceeded my expectations, can't wait for Cypress to be released!
Not a ton of shots of the crowd IMO but there are some, seemed like a decent mix of crowd/band, i guess kind of typical of what i would expect. But they did use a nice variety of camera angles, mostly close up and one from furthur back. I do remember one particular camera angle in the crowd they actually rolled right through the tapers section or along side of it i should say and I recognized a taper friend from chicago smiling away when he saw he was on film. Reba was during the day so i'll be curious to see how the evening angles are as well.

So far this release deserves an A+ in my book!
Watched the first 2 DVD's this morning and the Bonus DVD last night, RJ was right when he said disc 2 is a monster :-o
Sound and video quality are all pretty good and I to, like the variety of camera angles.
Not to mention the best Phish packaging to date IMO (although I'm not sure what the hell I will do with a Clifford Ball ticket and 2 wristbands :? , probably cool to have if you were there, but kind of useless for me, or well)
Edit: But no Balsa Glider here either!!! WTF?!

Just watched Divided Sky. Holy Shit, does that bring back memories. People always talk about the sky that night. It really was divided. With no trees, mountains or anything, you could see everything. You looked to the right and saw the sunset. You looked to the left and saw nighttime. Plus watching Trey during the silent section looking over at the sunset and everything with a shit-eating grin. Great stuff. I love this DVD so far.
on sky right now
man, this is the great....

I do remember one particular camera angle in the crowd they actually rolled right through the tapers section or along side of it i should say and I recognized a taper friend from chicago smiling away when he saw he was on film. Reba was during the day so i'll be curious to see how the evening angles are as well.
I'll keep my eyes open for that. One of my friends had tapers tickets to the Ball. Actually, that was the day I met him.
Mine is sitting at the warehouse 10 minutes from my house. No delivery on weekends here so i have to wait until Monday. :x Glad to here the good reviews though. if you go to drygood and then log in. Then click on view basket. At the top right you can click on order status and see all your past orders, with tracking numbers
found it there. And it was mailed by UPS mail innovations :? Just tracked it and says mines starting point was Durham, NC. I thought they all came out of Virginia?

I watched most of the sixth disc earlier today and I totally had forgotten how sweet that Scent of a Mule was!!!
I'm usually not a huge Mule fan, but this one was all over the place, I loved the Fishman solo!!!! That last part of his solo where is playing a swing pattern in his right hand on the ride cymbal and playing super fast with his left hand on the snare is crazy! I'm pretty sure he's using the rim of the snare as a fulcrum with his stick, its a pretty hard technique.
I watched the Gin and whatever was after it at my buds house on Thursday....good stuff...
is a "Bonus Pack" listed on everyone's order summary?
All preorders get a bonus pack.
I have now watched or listened to (tv off) discs 1 - 6. Watched Harpua today... I dug it. Nice footage of the glider.

For an extra hidden goodie on this DVD hit the "enter" button (I'm watching it on my computer, not sure what you hit on a DVD player) at around 54:20 of disc 5 during the antelope jam when the gymnast comes onstage and does her acrobatics rope thingy....
Its now going on Amazon.com for $50 too.
Glad I saved my amazon gift cards from xmas, so now I can actually afford it. :-)
I love the passage from 36:00-39:30 in the soundcheck, really good stuff.

i was rewinding it just to get a better look at the chick when she was getting off the rope.

What a freekin' load of crap... The whole reason I preordered was to get the free bonus junk - the glider, wristbands, whatever... All they sent me were the wristbands - MF, I got those when I went to the show the first time around! What they hell am I going to do with a second set??? Where is my glider dammit???
So, anybody want to buy a pair of unused PH Clifford Ball wristbands??? $30 - the difference between the Pre-Order price and the Best Buy price...

yeah, but I mean anyone else. Seems kind of crappy that of all the people who pre-ordered on here that only 1 person got one
I called and complained about another part of my order being "canceled" and was promised that I would be sent a glider. I'm not holding my breath...
But I may have to swing through Charlottesville on the way back from Loudoun Co next week and break some knee-caps...

if it makes you feel any better... they don't fly that great anyways :?
if they had sent me a glider, it probably would have been smashed to pieces by the post office. my package arrived mangled with a big hole in it. miraculously, the dvd set was unscathed. my Colorado fishman postcard was bent out of whack, though. I stuck it in my baseball encyclopedia to flatten it out.
I just wrote a letter of Customer Service:
1) missing glider
2) bent-up Live Phish 12/30/97
3) "canceled" t-shirt
4) ripped mailer with taped-up hole in it.
WTF is wrong with those people that they can't get something simple like placing items in a bubble mailer correct??? And why the bubble mailer? its a piece of crap and doesn't protect anything worth a crap.

I was just looking at my receipt - they never credited me the $18 for the "canceled" T-Shirt... Got on the phone and called and bitched. I am now receiving my money back, a glider (UPS Ground) and a new Clifford Ball and 12/30/97 set to replace the ones I got that are damaged...

Nope, I got a glider and 2 Schivices, both wristbands and a camping ticket. I didn't get a Colorado postcard, but I already had one from a previous order and the sticker they sent was a bright orange one. (I tried to scan it but my cheap scanner couldn't handle the brightness of the orange. :-o)

OK guys.....I have got to find my damn camera from after our Pensacola run...it's probably still in the car somewhere!
I'm loving the CB disks, though! We've been watching them here and there as family, pretty much been through the whole thing now...my 10 year old is really starting to get into :phish: now, so much that he had me put some on his computer that he could listen to at night!
So, he's also a very creative kid, and into the Legos bigtime. Well, he come up to me the other day and says, Dad, look, I made Phish! And he had! He had made a mini replica of Phish playing on the stage, with a crowd, and the big sculptures from the Ball! Complete with Page surrounded by keyboards, Trey with reddish hair, Mike, and Fish on the drums!! There's even a guy on a camera truck filming! As soon as I can get a picture up here I will, but I wanted to share in the meanwhile.
I'm so excited that my kid is getting excited about Phish!!
And of course, he's coming to the Knoxville show with us! I can't freaking wait until this summer, especially after hearing Hampton!

Don't they understand the determination and ridicule that is involved with keeping up with such things?

No.
But someday they'll realize that Dad must have been high through most of the 90's.

finally picked up my package today, had it shipped to my folks' house since i knew i'd be at (or heading to) Hampton by then.
got a glider (yay!), 2 wristbands, and a schvice - don't see anything else in here, but i'll take a closer look later.
If anyone is missing their glider, you can order one from here: http://www.imprintitems.com/balsa.htm Same model# on the PH Glider as "25-1".
I imagine we could get "Ticketmaster sucks ass" on there if you wanted...

Hey did you buy this in store or online?
a girlfriend of mine bought it for me and said "hey I got this for you, I know you have them all". She works @ bestbuy and got her discount for me. But that's because I work at a liquor/wine store and I get the HOOOOOK UP! on booze, my daily consumption (if i were to drink everyday) would be like $3.50 because Spanish wines are so cheap we get them for next to nothing and they are SO GOOOD! (if anyone cares and is looking for a really good red Spanish wine -> Don Ramon - Campo De Borja). So I hook up a lot of people and you know how it goes.
I'm watching the bonus disc now..
I love when they're watching Fluffhead and commenting on what they're seeing...
then they're watching Brother and Fish is like "this is a great song" :-D
I love shit like this.

the soundcheck... :-o :-o :-o :-o
edit: and the conversation about jams and jamming that takes place afterwards is priceless
Finally got it a couple of days ago - started watching it this morning. It truly is the shit! I watched the bonus disc first. Loved the soundcheck & the flatbed jam. I thought they did a great job of showing all the behind the scenes stuff too. Moved on and got thru Disc 1 - Divided Sky was the bomb!
the soundcheck is still going for me. it's so fucking sick.
JUST HURLED

Cool that you got a sampler!
I got this set at the beginning of the month, but had not opened it yet. Hicks came over on Friday, and we gave this sucker a screening. Great packaging, nice booklet, and good schwag. i was impressed before playing the discs. We watched the second night, sets 2 and 3, and the extras disc. All really great! Great sound and good camera work makes this probably my fave video release from The Phish. After screening most of day 2, we popped in the extras disc and I really liked the doc and the flatbead jam, plus all the short stuff too. All really well done. I watched the 1st day the next day and that crushes too. 2 thumbs up from this reviewer. And we saw Birdman setting his tent up. Big ups to Hicks for hooking up the trees!

wtf's up with that?!

Theremins don't make any sound when being filmed. Its part of their mystique.
The teddy bear with the eye patch in PYITE ...
The Heartbreaker tease in Wilson ...
Pollock making prints ...
And will there ever be a Phish LG? A really long LG ....
For this show I was sixteen, stole my dads shitty mercury topaz with two buddies o mine, no lie put a rock on top of a note in his parking space that said "went to New York." They had forbid me to go due to bad judgement decisions earlier in the summer
I can barely remember the first day(my first show) but the 2nd set of day 2 changed my life, literally. I will never forget the level of energy during that set, I was transported to another world. Everything from the crisp night air to Ben and Jerry's cameo will forever be remembered, it truly was a magical show.

I heard that you become invisible when playing playing the Theremin... Which is another part of its mystique...
But aside from that I think that this is hands down the best DVD footage out there of PHISH!!! I love it...
Not to mention it was my first show... :-D

Yeah, but "Archives Vol. I" has been anticipated since Grammy voters listened to music. That's a long time ago.
