Quote from: mattstick on August 05, 2022, 08:40:13 AMEveryone up to speed on the MoFi digital debacle?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/music/2022/08/05/mofi-records-analog-digital-scandal/

Sheesh, that's pretty underhanded on MoFi's part.
I love how some audiophiles still put them at the top of their list for sound quality.
Everything is connected, because it's all being created by this one consciousness. And we are tiny reflections of the mind that is creating the universe.

My only MoFi is Garcia & Grisman's Shady Grove. I think it sounds great, but I've never been the 'golden ear' type.

You haven't lived until you've had a robot shart in your ear and followed along in the live setlist thread while it happens.

I think the analog vs digital discussion is a bit of a red herring. The real story is that MoFi traded on their reputation as "all analog" and purposefully obfuscated the truth about using digital files, all in an effort to sell a premium product at a premium price.

Oh yeah... I have that one too. But it's really the one-steps that are the big deal here.

Yep

People paid premiums and did not get what they thought they were buying.
Underhanded and uncool.

Not just the One Steps, 90% of the Mofi titles seem to be cut from a digital reproduction of the master tapes.

Good news though, Garcia/Grisman is an all analog effort.

WOO! I knew my non-golden ear thought it sounded great.

I have a bunch of MOFIs, pretty disappointed to hear they have been underhanded in this way, but there's still no reason for me to enjoy them any less than I have.  Whole thing is a shit show though. Doubt I will buy any more on principle.  The only MOFI one step I have is the Dylan and it sounds so good.  This was so mismanaged, talk about giving yourself a black eye.

LP on LP vol 3 just arrived and unlike vol 1 & 2, the cover is correct. I assumed that they would embrace the backward cover mistake and run with it, but nope.

Time to throw it on the turntable!  :phish: :music:

LOL
I forgot about the backwards covers (blocked it from my memory more likely) so I took the proper one on this release completely in stride. Mine arrived yesterday and I gave it a spin last night. Sounds great.

August

Were these on sale at the Summer shows?

Yes, and so was the Flatbed Jam. Well, I guess I was them on Spring Tour so they were for sale at the Spring Tour shows.

They were but pre-sale went up some time ago as well.
In fact, I was a bit salty that they had them for sale art shows when my pre-order had not yet shipped.

August

Yeah, I thought I saw it at Jones Beach but I had preordered as well.
Spun it early. That was fun.

Hicks

I'll buy it for $15 a couple months from now.

But, I don't think our fans do happily lap it up, I think they go online and talk about how it was a bad show.

mistercharlie

Newbury Comics was selling Vol.'s 1 & 2 for $11.24 a piece some time ago.
