Quote from: emay on September 29, 2024, 10:06:14 PMThe pics and reports of western NC are devastating. Asheville and Boone are pretty destroyed. Towns inbetween completely wiped out. A friend that lived on their farm outside Boone passed away from their house collapsing cuz of a landslide.  :(
That area hasn't seen this type of natural disaster destruction in probably 100 years or more.

 I'm so sorry.

This hurricane season has been totally insane so far. We got really lucky with Milton last night where we are in central FL. The panhandle and west coast of FL have been devastated. I can't even speak of what happened to E TN and WNC due to Helene. I still can't quite comprehend the level of destruction caused.

PALACE THEATRE
Louisville, KY

SET 1: Sample in a Jar > Divided Sky, The Horse > Silent in the Morning > Sparkle > Stash, Guyute, The Old Home Place[1], Ginseng Sullivan[1], Nellie Kane[1], Chalk Dust Torture

SET 2: Golgi Apparatus, Maze, Esther > Tweezer, Fee[2] -> Rift > Down with Disease > Hold Your Head Up > Love You > Hold Your Head Up, Slave to the Traffic Light

ENCORE: Foreplay/Long Time[3], Tweezer Reprise

[1] Acoustic and without microphones. Steve Cooley on banjo.
[2] Trey sang verses through megaphone.
[3] Acoustic. Steve Cooley on banjo.

The Old Home Place through Nellie Kane and Foreplay/Long Time were performed acoustic and featured guest Steve Cooley on banjo. Old Home Place through Nellie Kane also were performed without microphones. Trey sang the verses of Fee through a megaphone. Prior to Love You, Fish quoted Lovin' You and sang part of 21st Century Schizoid Man.

Like I said - this is the first of seven straight shows I caught. The Palace was fucking beautiful. I was in the 2nd or 3rd row, Page side. Oddly, this is the night my first wife says she noticed me for the first time. We didn't meet and I didn't notice her, but she says it's the night she noticed me.

Stash is awesome, as usual. My first Guyute and it's fucking perfect. I remember noticing Page standing up and playing the Klav for Guyute. I'm pretty sure he added the Klav on this tour specifically for Guyute and it stayed. Look at pictures from summer tour and the piano is open. Fall tour it's closed and the Klav is on top of it.

Being that close for the acoustic stuff with no mics was really special... and REALLY does not translate to tape for shit.

The Tweezer is great, but it's still not even hinting at where it will go. Interestingly, it seems to me like Fish is the one keeping in from going too out there. He keeps the beat going and brings it back quickly in the few places he lets it go. Then they do the classic slow-down ending like the album. I think he's the one to listen for as the Bowies and Tweezers start to expand later in the fall. Bowie especially. It's when he drops all semblance of the beat that things swing way to left for long stretches.

The Slave is beautiful.

Great night. I remember just how excited I was to keep this tour going.

Finally, a normal venue!  A classic downtown theater, and a "beaut" at that.  I saw Panic there once, but I truly regret missing the theater era of phish.  This was officially a sell out.  Stash has a powerful build.  The internets is telling me Steve Cooley is a banjo friend of Bela, which means Mike stayed on bass and Page got bumped to the mouth piano.  Tough to hear on the aud tapes, but it's there.

Page was very prominent in the first half of Tweezer, and I enjoyed that very much.

Listened to the 8th on time but catching up on the 9th and 10th today.
As for the 8th, I'd definitely listened to this a time or two before but it had been quite a few years.
Crowd is totally fired up from the get-go, and it reflects in the band's playing. Disease is so fucking hot and has some frenetic jamming, packing a hell of a lot of jam into what, 8 minutes? Another fine run through Guyute and a blistering Antelope.
An embarrassment of riches in Set 2 what with Mike's, Purple Rain, hot '94 Fluffhead, and a beautiful Hood. The soccer team doesn't really translate to tape all that well but I'm sure my head would be exploding in person. Great, great show.

This is first of seven straight shows I attended. I have thoughts, but I'm not quite through the first set yet, my thoughts will have to wait. In the meantime, look at how beautiful this place is!!

From phish.com:

QuoteThis was Phish's only appearance at The Palace Theatre, a historic Spanish Baroque style performance house opened in 1928 and designed by John Eberson with a capacity of 2,700. Tickets cost $18.50.

Quote from: anthrax on October 09, 2024, 06:14:44 PMHow the hell did Phish's agent find these rooms?  I assume it was Chip Hooper by then?  I mean they would headline MSG in a little over 2 months.  This venue is a tiny gymnasium for Duquesne University, and Phish pulled in almost 4,000 people on a Sunday night.  Not bad.

This tour was riddled with shows at College/University all-purpose arenas. Certainly their target audience at the time.
Yep. And student planning committees with budgets!
yeah the one show i caught was UVA and definitely seemed that way lol. Felt like a big frat party.
great small venue though. Was like one of those semi circle theatres for theatrical productions.
