has anyone played Infinite Undiscovery yet?

no, but i def. need to find some reviews. it came out today i believe. and even though Final Fantasy was announced to be going multiplatform, it is probably a year off at least. so this game is SquareEnixs big effort for a long time.
the previews i've seen look pretty cool, and though its still cliche in many aspects, it does look to be a tightly made game.

also, conan hyberian chronicles which came out for PC to mixed reviews back in the spring, should be coming out this month.
although it didint get perfect reviews, possibly with a few fixes for the console version, it could prove to be interesting and i believe it was supposed to be one of the first real MMOs for console..... i'll have to check out some updated info.

like i said this fall through next spring is going to produce more quality games than possibly any other time seen in recent history or ever for that matter considering the stride in next gen production that is happening.

many excellent titles could slip through the cracks if you are not paying attention.
i need to check my update lists of releases!

after reading some reviews I've gathered that it's a good game, but short.  30 hours and you're done.  And there are too many characters to have to keep up with (with weapons and gear and stuff).  Something like 18 of them for such a short game.  It said that some of them you use once and that's it... if at all.  The guy said at one point he noticed someone helping him in a quest that he had no idea was even in his party
right. i didnt know it was that short, but i did hear about the extra characters in your party. though i didnt get a review just a preview a couple weeks ago, so it wasnt put in that negative light.
personally, i cant get excited about square's RPGs anymore. i dont really enjoy the combat system they always use. plus, now there are many more options for RPGs on consoles. the days of final fantasy are past, and relegated to the fanboys, IMO.

as far ax other upcoming RPGs the one that's burning a hole in my brain just thinking about it is FALLOUT3.
try between 100 to 200 hrs of gameplay. i cant wait. pretty much the next 'must buy' game, IMO.

that is one of, if not the biggest, things I look at when buying a game.  how long will it take me to beat this

I'm tired of going out and buying a new game i've been looking forward to playing, only to get home and beat the entire thing in a week :frustrated:

definitely. thats why the majority of the games i buy have to include some sort of online play. otherwise i'll be bored with it in 2 weeks unless its super long like a GTA or can be re-played in a different manner like MASS EFFECT.
in fact i loaned my copy of too human out this weekend, but just grabbed it back from my friend so i can start a second campaign and see if its worth my time going through the game with a different character. if not i'll trade in that puppy before  its value goes down.

bottom line is though that $60 is too much for a game. even though 360 is releasing greatest hits at discounted prices and cutting not so popular titles, i think $50 is a much more reasonable price for a new game.

and i dunno about ya'll, but the used game stores here dont discount newer/current used games worth shit.
most anything that is lessthan 3 months old is still $55!! WTF?!?! especially considering the fact that they'll only give me about $10-20 when i sell them that same game!

I never ever trade my games in. It's totally not worth it at all.  I pay $60 for a game so I can trade it in not far down the road for $10... sometimes less.  Not thanks!

I sell them on ebay

interesting. i didnt realize that would increase your turnover profit.

which reminds me. i need to learn how to use Ebay and paypall... i've been avoiding it and its time. especially since i found used PS3s on there for less than $200, and i really wnat to buy a cheap one so i can ply SOC0M!

well, i guess we wouldnt be much of a video game thread if we didnt mention that SPORE finally came out today.

if you dont know about this game, well... basically the skinny is that is made by will wright the guy that made SIMS. this is a PC game. and it is basically one of the biggest productions in years. it takes the SIMS type concept and starts you off as a single cell organism which progresses through evolution all the way until you develop as a race that explores the entire galaxy. it is many genres in one as well, etc etc...
mainly over this summer there has been a lot of press about the games 'creature creator' which was basically the 'beta' for the game i guess. it allowed users to start creating their own creatures for the game, in which i beleive user created content will somehow interact online.
sorry if i totally just BSed my way through that, but i thought we should at least mention it since it is a BIG deal to somebody somewhere i'm sure of it!  :-D

other notable releases today:

NHL 09.

last week's big release:

mercenaries 2. XPLAY totally dysed this game. end result looks very weak indeed, after some really nice previews originally.

next week's big releases:

star wars force unleashed.

rock band2

do you shop online?  I've been out of gaming for years, but I do buy a lot of DVDs & I use amazon or buy.com etc, and they crush whatever retailers are selling for (+ no sales tax & free shipping)

for games? hell no.
and maybe you can get used titles cheaper elsewhere, but a new game is a new game. i dont think that anyone sells new 360 releases the day they come out for less than $60. plus fuck shipping and all that.
i'm standing in line at midnight muthafuckas!  :-D
j/k.

but ser.
i DLed both nhl09 and nba09 demos tonite.
FINALLY NBAlive might be on the right track.
i've been following the franchise for over a decade and ever since they moved to next gen they have sucked it up completely.
though as mentioned before in this thread,  EA took a ton of heat over the last year  for continually riding their franchises into the ground by rehashing the same games every year and milking the faithful for little more than a roster update. well thety made a promise to take things to the next level in all their games this year and starting with MADDEN they have def. got it goin on big time!
and now the demo for NBA live is showing promise as well.
a HUGE, HUGE, i mean HUGE feature has been added. for the first time EVER in a sports video game, there will be a feature entitled DNA. this feature allows for DAILY updated info, including stat adjustments for every player depending on how they are rated as playing GAME to GMAE in real life.
and this doesnt just track stats and adjust their strenghts, but also tracks streaks and slumps.
it even goes as far in depth that if you want you can play the game that was held in real life the night before and depending on how that player played in that exact game it will be how they play in the same game you are reinacting the next day!
holy shit thats cool. and there is more that i cant really explain, but needless to say it is revolutionary and fuckin amazing.
word.

here's some of gamespot's analysis of the new DNA system i was talking about with nbalive 09:

"EA shows off the new dynamic DNA player-tendencies system in its upcoming basketball game.

Every player in the NBA has his tendencies. Some prefer to take a shot at the top of the key, some prefer to post up. Some like to handle the ball on a pick and roll, others like to do the rolling. Of course, tendencies change throughout the season--new coaches, new teammates, player injuries, or just a few of the myriad things that can change throughout the season, causing individual players and teams alike to adjust over the course of the season. While sports video games have long claimed to mimic real-life player tendencies, EA Sports' upcoming NBA Live 09 is looking to take that to the next level with daily, yes you read that correctly, daily updates for player tendencies during the NBA season.

Unveiled today during the EA Sports segment of today's EA press conference, the Dynamic DNA feature (as it's known) looks to accurately gauge the way players and teams change throughout the season. Based off of technology from Synergy Sports, a premiere sports analytics company, the Dynamic DNA feature will download new player data daily across a number of different player tendencies: isolation, pick-and-roll ball handler, pick-and-roll roll man, post up, spot man, off-ball screen, and cuts, as well as such tendencies as how often the player moves left or right when facing off with a defender.

This kind of information will show up onscreen in player profiles, with numbers associated with each aspect of a player's game. If a player has a high tendency to post up, you'll see a big number in that category; if he never plays the off-ball screen, you'll see a zero (or at least a very low number) in that section. In addition, just as teams are groups of individuals, teams in NBA Live 09 will develop their own team tendencies based on the DNA of their players. If you add in a new player to the mix (think of Pau Gasol going from Memphis to Los Angeles), the chemistry of that team will change accordingly. The system seems to be built off the hot spot system that was in last year's game--indicating the areas on the floor where a particular player is hot. It's currently unclear whether the system will take into consideration player tendencies--or rather "reset" the data with daily player updates.

Where player tendencies should have the biggest impact will be in play calling. Depending on what player you're controlling at any given moment, you'll have a number of different plays to call. To bring up the play-calling screen, you press the left bumper; a small menu will then pop up showing four plays available to you, along with an associated DNA tendency number indicating the chances for success when calling that play with that particular player. For instance, when controlling Kevin Garnett during the demo, the player had four options: Pierce, isolation (Y button); Garnett, post up (X button); Allen, off-ball screen (B button); and Allen, get open (A button). The best option, based on the DNA percentage number associated with the play call was the Garnett post up; the demo player called the play and managed to put the ball home with KG."

cool and all, but it's still within the confines of the crappiest basketball engine ever.  looks pretty as hell too, but the gameplay has always been (and will likely continue to be) horrid.
