Hargrove had been scheduled to perform on Saturday in a jazz vespers service at Bethany Baptist Church in Newark, N.J., as part of the TD James Moody Jazz Festival.

After a little over a year at Berklee, Hargrove decided to move to New York City to attend The New School. A figure in the NYC neo-soul scene in the early-2000s, Hargrove made considerable contributions to the Soulquarians collective recordings including D'Angelo's breakthrough Voodoo as well as albums by Common and Erykah Badu.
