Great looking show. Can't wait to listen to it. I've heard the Tweezer > Kung > Tweezer before and loved it.

I'm pretty familiar with this one, since over the past couple years I've developed the habit of running through December '95 every six months or so.

Sample: Starts out with Trey playing muted strings.  The crowd is thinking, this is either going to be Sample or the slowest PYiTE ever.  Getting this one out of the way early.

Poor Heart: Pretty non-existent Trey solo.  Page tears it up, though.

Simple: This one was a pretty smooth and concise Simple without too much fanfare.  Faded out nicely and right into:

Jim: Faster than normal.  Don't know what it is about this one, but I like it more than I usually do.  Maybe because Fishman is on fire throughout.  I also should point out that the recording I'm listening to sounds great and has a real nice mix.  You can hear everyone really well.

Fluffhead: Time for the real good stuff.  Page sounds great throughout this one.  Trey gets a little lost in the crazy middle section and stops playing until he can find his place.  Actually, when comes back in, he has a little trouble, too.  Not a total botch job or anything, but not the tightest.  Page really shines on it, tho.  Kind of a weak entrance into Arrival.  You almost want to digitally remove about 45 seconds of music and then it would sound pretty sweet.

Ice: Following Fluffhead up with another complex arrangement.  This one is solid and has a nice middle section largely comprised of a Page solo much like a Squirming Coil outro.  I like this version.

Acoustic Army: Is what it is

Caspian: Short and uneventful.

Good Times, Bad Times: Standard.

There wasn't too much going on in this set.  The Jim, Fluffhead, Ice trio was good to hear even though Fluffhead wasn't played exceptionally well, but other than that, nothing really stood out.  Kind of a 'B' first set.

2001: Standard second set starting springboard segueing into...

Tweezer: The goods.  They don't waste any time here.  Right after the vocals stop they go into a jam very similar to a YEM jam.  Then at 9:40, the jam lays back and mellows out a bit, which is followed by some noodling by Trey and then everyone stops except Trey.  Followed by random "GANGK"s from everyone.  Very 94-ish.  Shortly thereafter everyone kicks back in and it becomes a dark, dissonant jam, with quite a lot of tension building.  It resolves a bit at 13:30, or at least the dissonance stops and Mike starts a descending progression that the band slowly catches on to.  Great stuff here.  Gets quiet and expiremental again ~15:30.  Fishman really is stretching his legs and having some fun with this.  The effects/loops start up for a second.  Then it dissolves into the spaciness and eventually goes into Kung, which is sung instead of chanted.  Nice and eerie.  Eventually goes back into Tweezer, which features some hectic screaming by Fishman.  After a couple minutes, it just slows down to a dead stop and ends.

Love You: Wackiness

Squirming Coil: One of only 3 times in '95 where it wasn't a set closer.  Well played and a nice Page solo, with Trey adding his 2 cents quite often.  Actually, a great Page solo.

Tweezer Reprise: Another set closer that doesn't close the set.

Antelope: Nice.  With Brady Bunch quotes.  This one's pretty smoking.  Nice way to finish the set.

Come Together: This is kind of a novelty tune.  It's great that they played it and they do a really good job for the first couple verses, but it kind of fizzles when it comes to the solo.  Doesn't help that it's probably my least favorite song off Abbey Road.

Day in the Life: Beatles twofer to close it out.

The second set certainly outshined the first, with Love You being the only weak spot and Tweezer being the clear highlight.  Certainly not the best from this month, but better than your average show, without a doubt.  I give it a B+.

Now that I've heard the whole show here's my thoughts:

Set I:
Sample: I'm always a fan of this song, and it makes a nice show opener. khalpin was right about it sounding like PYITE in the beginning.

Poor Heart: Plain ol' Poor Heart.

Simple: funky mellow jam that spaces out into Jim.

Runaway Jim: This Jim Smokes! Great playing from Fishman.

Fluffhead: Wonderfully played. A little machine gun Trey at the end.

It's Ice: One of my favorite Phish tunes, It's like a box of Cracker Jacks, you never know what 'prize' is waiting inside. In this box it was a beautiful Page jam that was very Coil remenicant.

Acoustic Army: Barely audible. This song was fun to see live, but tapes never bring the same feeling.

Caspian: Short & standard.

GTBT: Pretty standard as well. Nice little jam near the end.

Set II

2001: One of my favorite set openers. This is an average version that moves quickly into the heart of the night...

Tweezer: Very strong jamming. Slides into space for a minute before decending into

Kung: not a big fan of thish one, although this version is slightly more enjoyable than other versions. after the kung chant ends it kicks back into

Tweezer: Great return from Kung the Fish screaming is oddly melodic with the Tweezer groove. It winds up with a slunky ending.

Love You: Sung much faster than normal. kinda jazzy start, not one of the best vacuum solos.

Coil: Another average version that Page twinkles back into the Tweezer groove.

Tweezer Reprise: Smoothe return to the Tweezer jam.

Antelope: Very Rockin' with a little more Machine Gun Trey.

Encore:

Come Together: By the numbers cover, a nice tribute.

A Day In The Life: Another by the numbers cover, But you cant hate two beatles tunes in a row.

The highlights for me were the It's Ice and the Tweezer.

Nothing too noteworthy from the first set, but it is pretty solid.
The Jim was super fast and shraged out for a bit toward the end.
Trey misses some sections in Ice right before Fishman stands on his throne.
The real meat is in the second set...

2001 - Trey on the mini kit for the second time around. Nice way to get it going.

Tweezer - Pretty grooving start to the jam. It quiets down ~10 minutes in with everyone but Trey POUNDING the ones. Trey keeps soloing, which is pretty rad. Some mini kit and space leads into >>>

Kung - Sounds like all four of them are contributing vocally on this one. Trey is swinging the megaphone toward the end >>>

Tweezer - Right back into it nicely with the traditional slow down ending. The whole Tweezer encapsulates December '95 rather nicely, IMO.

Love You - 1st since 12-28-1994 (73 shows) and last until 07-05-1997 (111 shows). Weird that this was only played 3 times from '95 - '99.

Coil - Nice, lengthy outro by Page.

Reprise - Done already?

Antelope - Nope! raging version and a great way to close out the set.

Come Together - Nice nod to the 15 year death anniversary of Lennon. First and only time played and the band does a decent job with it.

ADITL - Fitting.

Overall, one of the more solid Fall '95's.
I give it a strong B+.

i had some problems with my d/l, not all the tracks showed up.  For example I am missing Kung and the encore...

Over all this was a smoking show, just classic 95.

sample- odd to see in the lead position, but it sounds great.  trey takes a sweet solo
poor heart- did this peak in 95? nice version
simple- fun to hear not in the mikes sandwhich.  great version and fish sounds like rolling thunder
runaway- wow! red hot jim here.  Really nice playing by all
fluffhead- again tight playing and a great release.  trey steps up and goes to town
its ice- the band dodges left and right at the drop of a hat.  page takes this one for all its worth
acoustic army- reminds me of how much balls it takes to actually playing something like this or keyboard kavalry
prince caspian- i really prefer this version, really rocking
gtbt- (didnt get to hear it)

2001> nice opener.  2001 really reminds me of watching swimming, each time the song gets close to peaking and then backs up is like when swimmers hit the wall and then turn.  You bring some extra heat and then back off cause its not the final stretch yet
tweezer- wow.  damn.  this is a serious face melting tweezer, just keeps going and getting better
kung- (didnt get to hear it)
>tweezer
love you>hyhu fun times!!!
squirming coil- really tight and page sounds great near the end
tweeprise- pretty standard but that also means pretty ripping hot
antelope- wow, raging!

come together- a day in the life (didnt get to hear them)

So I am having serious problems with my burner and had to use something else that not only dropped tracks but added a 3 second gap between songs, so I am not really happy with this.  But thats my issue and not the shows...   I would give it a strong b+.  Classic fall 95 burner!  3 back to back jams in the first set and some serious nasties in the second.   Great pick.  I am thinking I will redown load this and try again

SET I

Sample - Wheres Mike on this tape?  I like this as a opener, reminds me of the rainstorm at Polaris :]
Fishman kills this for sure, they gotz me pumped up..

Poor Heart - Standard

Simple - I feel like I almost dozed off there, not necessarily a bad thing.. Jam was good but got kinda
repetitive.. fades into -->

Runaway Jim - Could me my FAV ph tune.. FUCK THE HATERS! I should change my name to JIM72592 :P Feels a tad
faster to begin, plus crowds love to clap along (stupid IMO).. GREAT version, IMO.. very uptempo and a little
different feel to the jam..

Fluffhead - w00t! I can finally hear Mike, levels i presume or i just plugged in my headphones.. VERY solid
version, nailed it win a very nice jam..

It's Ice - Another favorite of mine, Page shines in the middle.. gets kinda spacey in the break.. Pretty good IMO

Acoustic Army - These would have been fun to see, and their def fun to hear..

Caspian - I think i missed this one..

GxBx - Very rockin way to end the set..

Overall pretty good.. Sounded ALOT better when i put on my headphones ;\
The trifecta of Simple, Jim, and Fluffhead was the h33t!!

SET II

2001 - Nice way to open a set, as always.. Trey was very quiet in the beginning, did its thing..

Tweezer - here we go! Fishman/Mike are on fire, really holding it down during the verses.. Picks up steam
right away, Page takes over and Mike is changing it up.. Another buildup starts right before the 10:00 mark..
I could almost hear Simple right after 13:00.. -->

Kung - Waving the megaphone produces a cool effect ;\ -->

Tweezer - Right back to SHRAGE, then the standard cool down ending.. VERY solid, set highlight..

Love you - They seem to be having fun tonight, playing faster too.. Sounds like someones taking a shit..

Squirming Coil - I like the placement, lots of backround noise on my source, anyone hear anything in coil?
Nice finish..

'Reprise - As said before, set over already? Nah..

Antelope - More w00tage going on.. Was listening to 08/20/93 earlier, should be a nice contrast.. GOD! Crowds
suck at clapping along, i HATE it.. Jam starts HOT! And stays hot throughout, BOMB set closer..

Come Together - Very Cool, played well too, IMO..

ADITL - An all Beatles encore, I'm okay with that..

Second set on this beast was great.. Tweezer, Coil, Antelope and the encores were DEF the heat..
I almost enjoyed Antelope more then the Tweezer..

Set I:

Sample - works as an opener or a closer.  I'm currently feeling Sample so I like it

Poor Heart - does it's thing in the second spot

Simple - love how this one starts off..Fish is pounding away, rockin jam eases it's way perfectly into

>Runaway Jim - sweet segue keeps the pace up.  I love Trey's guitar licks after the quiet section between the verses.  jam takes off in a nasty way.  Rage!

>Fluffhead - should be tight and this one ain't bad at all, energetic Fluff.  Clod=fave part, Bundle of Joy=least fave part.  Oh and Trey's solo to end it is always epic

It's Ice - hell yeas!  I'm loving Fish's playing tonight and this song's got sick beats.  some lovely piano from Page to start the Ice jam which I always seem to like.  killer version

Acoustic Army - for the last time.  cool breather

Prince Caspian - I like the short Caspians (3 minutes!).  different vibe than the latter day versions. Love Mike's deep backing vocals on the chorus.  Trey banter follows mentioning the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, so naturally they follow with some Zep

GTBT - the joint is rockin!  Perfect closer to a powerful set.

Set II:

2001 - nice bit of space before the drums kick in.  some cool scratching next. I'm starting to like the more condensed versions

Tweezer - looking forward to this jam.  Fish and Mike are solid, funky.  things get a bit darker Page plays some heavy piano with some nice start/stop action.  then it breaks out into a nasty groove..best thing played so far.  So so sick.  it goes on for a while even building in intensity.  Trey holds a note perfectly for what seemed like forever..

>Kung - sang over some dark effects

>Tweezer - perfect, some scary screaming.  they slow way down-almost painfully slow but in a good way.

>Love You>HYHU - I like this one alright

Squirming Coil - love it.  especially from this era.  Trey kills it, Page kills it.

Tweezer Reprise - one of my favorite songs actually.  It all hinges on how Mike comes in.  he doesn't come through too well on this source, but Fish's pounding does.  Reprise delivers just about every time. (non-closer!!)

Antelope - huge closer after all that.  real fast pace...I just wish I could been around at this time.  This Antelope wastes no time which works great.

Encore:

Come Together - not bad at all.  Crowd ate it up I'm sure.

>Day in the Life - an all Beatles encore!  I'm not much of a fan, but I like this..nice encore

So basically I loved every minute of this show.  Simple>Jim>Fluff followed by It's Ice in the first set was huge.  The second set Tweezer>Kung>Tweezer is one of the best new-to-me jams I've heard in a while.  Everything else was great.  Thanks for the pick, Dan! A

Set I:
Sample- nice opener.  NIce and tight, good way to start a show.
Poor Heart- seems fast.  I like it.  And Trey's solo seems loose, fun, almost countryish.
Simple- sweet jam, and what's great is the chord progression is, well, just simple.  Great feeling in this one.
Runaway- good energy, quiet part plays around a bit and then erupts into a great moving jam.
Fluffhead- it's the head that is fluffy- high energy, love the ending with Trey hitting those notes nice and hard, sounds cool.  What a great tune.
It's Ice- I always forget how much I like this song.  Few mistakes here and there, but solid version.  Page sounds great.
Acoustic Army- it's acoustic.  it's nice.  breather.
Caspian- short, to the point, good ole 95 caspian.
GTBT- cleveland rocks.  and so does Zepplin.  Rockin version to end the set.

Set II:
2001- a little spacey, but another short and sweet version, very typical of 95.
Tweezer- and the second set takes off...GREAT version.  Picks up the pace right away and rips it up.  Sweet jam, hard hitting and intensity -- PAGE sounds awesome!  This is what a Tweezer should be.  And we find ourselves in>
Kung- i always get a kick outta Kung, and back to>
Tweezer- finishes it off nicely.  Slows it down and brings us back to earth...
Love You>HYHU- apparently we need a little rest and fun, so Fishman does his thing.
Coil- good version.  Page is the man on this one.  I love the lengthy outro.
Tweezer Reprise- love the reprise, especially in the in winter, sending you out in the cold after a hot show with reprise always makes me smile- Step into the Freezer!  But wait, we're not done yet...
Antelope- one more chance to seal the deal as a sweet set.  Hopping version, great bonus after the Reprise to end the set.

Come Together- nice tribute.  Especially on this date.
Day in the Life- see above.  Solid encores to a tight show.

Great pick!  First set was solid, with Simple, Jim, and Fluffhead, not to mention It's Ice.  Second set was a bit of face-melting jams.  Tweezer really put the set on fire and it only went on from there.  Probably a fun show to be at for the encores.  Great example of a solid, well played 95 show.  I give it a solid A-.

Sample - Rockin opener!  Works well in this slot

Poor Heart - His tape recorder got stolen!!!!!

Simple - Shorter, but with a nice jam.  A bit faster with some nice head bobbing potential, melts nicely into....

Jim - Not my favorite, but it works well.  Very fast and energetic.  Finds it's way into...

Fluffhead - YEAH!!!!!  Very minor flubs here and there, but over all a very well played version.

Ice - Played with some pretty tight accuracy, and nice energy.  Very nice page solo.  A couple flubs but nothing major.

Acoustic Army - They all played guitars.

Caspian - Very short, and not much to talk about.  Played well I guess.

GTBT - An appropriate set closer.  No real craziness in this first set, but it displays some great playing which is always a great sign for the second set.

2001 - A shorter version compared to what this monster became in later years.  But, it's a nice way to open up the second set.  Also, a very common set two opener for the early days of this tune.

Tweezer - One of the great highlights of this show for me.  The jam starts off with an immediate groove.  Page is really on fire on this one, almost taking the "real" lead for a few min while Trey hold out some more sustained notes.  Shortly before the ten min mark it slows down and begins to stretch out there.  Trey starts soloing on top of the rest of the band slamming down on the single notes (not sure how else to describe that).  Then it picks up into some madness for a few before drifting into....

Kung - The effects that it's sang over gives it a pretty spooky vibe.  Also, there is more vocal action going on in this one. Definitely a unique version.  The screams and feedback melt nicely back into...

Tweezer - They come back in with the heat, and some left over screaming from Kung.  SLOW DOWN ending!  Epic Tweezer for sure.

Love you > HYHU - Fun time!  A nice vacuum solo never hurt anyone, right?

Coil - Very well played.  A lengthy outro with some beautiful playing by Page.

Tweprise - Kind of a "fake out" ending.  Rockin as usual.

Antelope - Brady Bunch tease in the intro.  Absolutely raging version, and a great way to close out this amazing set.

Come Together - First and Only time played.  Nice surprise!

A Day In The Life - Double Beatles encore!  I love this one.  Well played.

While the first set doesn't really have any ground breaking moments, I think this show is a solid representation of Dec. '95.  It has it all; tightness, accuracy, fast paced energetic playing and lengthy jams. Compared to all other eras of Phish, I'd give it a solid A.  But, compared to the rest of this month, I'd give it a B+.  So, I guess I'll just average it at a solid A-.

Oh shit, back from the dead chillin' on the beach down at club med!

Sample:  It's weird to think that at this point Hoist was still their most recent studio album.

Poor Heart:

Simple:  Thought we might get some meat early, but this one petered out pretty quick.  Oh well, I still dig this tune and I like this placement.

Jim:  aka the bane of my existence. just kidding.  kinda.  Fairly uneventful for the first eight or nine minutes in standard Jim fashion, but it does finally heat up and rage pretty hard at the end.  Not exactly what I wanted to hear mid set, but it didn't kill the flow either.

Fluffhead:  Trey gets pretty lost during the Chase and sounded a little flat during Who Do, We Do as well, but from the Clod on it was solid.  Seemed like they took the Arrival around an extra time for Trey to trill the f out of that high note.  Cool.

It's Ice:  Cool version, with Trey and Mike doing some cool subtle stuff during the middle section where Page shines as usual.  He really tears it up once they go back into the composed section as well.  Sweet version.

Acoustic Army:  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Caspian:  Reeeeaaally short, I missed the reprise. Mike sounds sweet though, particularly during the intro.

GTBT:  Nice banter about the dragon pants.  teh usual shred.

hmmm, not much to really write home about, but some well played tunes for the most part.  Solid B set.

2001:  Werd.

Tweezer:  Now we're talking, some 12/95 hottness.  It seems like Trey was just on the verge of a "Cocaine" tease in the early part of the jam, but he never quite explicity played the riff.  Fish is really pounding the skins hard, and he seems to be a bit more aggressive in his playing throughout the show, good stuff.  He's really hitting that snare like nobodys business when the jam breaks down around the ten minute mark, which also features some nice jazzy noodling by Trey.  I like the way they build it back up but it seems like the jam doesn't peak quite as hard as it should around the 13 minute mark or so.  It does rage fairly hard, its just not quite as transcendant as it could have been though.  Then Page moves over to the clav and things get kinda weird and dark, Page teases something and we go into:

Kung:  classic Phish tomfoolery  Is somebody using a pitch pipe during this?   :-D

Tweezer: aha, here's the peak I was waiting for!  I like the slow down ending but I'm always waiting for that short reprise they used to do back in 89-91, I wonder why that got ditched.

Love You:  I guess, if we have to.

Squirming Coil:  I had a "really?" moment when this started up, seemed like it was premature to be wrapping things up already.  But a very nice version with Trey hanging around a bit for the outro and Page taking his solo to some atypical places.  Very nice.

Tweeprise:  I paid my hard earned money to go see Phish and in return you f with my head, wtf!!!!!!!!!!

Antelope:  ahhh yes, the pay off.  The intro features some especially whack clapping though, what is up with that?  It takes a while to get there but it eventually brings it big time around the eight minute mark.  GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Hmmm, I might actually take this as the set highlight over the Tweezer. . .

Come Together:  Well played and a nice tribute to Lennon, respect!

ADITL:  I like this in the encore slot, and paired with a one timer kick down they make for a pretty friggin' sweet encore.  Nice capper.

Overall I'm gonna give set two an A-, it would have been an A if the Tweezer had been just a bit hotter, but as it is it just can't quite compete with some of the other monsters from the month like 12/14 and 12/2.   So we've got an easy to rate B+ show here, it's no doubt a very enjoyable listen but gets knocked down a few pegs considering that this was a peak period for the band, although I've always found 94 and 93 too be a bit more up my personal alley, so to speak.  Thnx for the pick Dan!
