I'll have to double check, but I think they may have played there more than just 98, 99, 00. I'll get back to you on that.....
EDIT: Rowjimmy beat me to it. I was thinking Santana as well, I just wasn't sure.

Set II: Rock and Roll -> Theme From the Bottom > Dog Gone Dog, The Mango Song -> Jam -> Free
Encore: Contact > Rocky Top
The only part of the three that I've seen there that I did not like was Meatstick in 99.
98 was sick. Hit that show with Igbo and VaSlim, Hot, sunny, day; traffic sucked. Great music. 2001 > Tela > Piper... sick.
99 was a lot of kickassitude. Went to that with Igbo and our future wives. As I said, I did not like Meatstick.
2K was very cool. Went with my new wife, three days after my birthday, They played the newly dusted off "Curtain With" and that straight up epic second set.
Interesting to look at these side-by-side. There's a number of repeats between 99 & 2k.

Runaway Jim set closers are Strange :? 2 at the same venue.
Yes Meatstick was bad. I did that entire tour, man was I sick of that shit. The first one in Lakewood was hot with no stupid dance. I think it is the version used @ Cypress over the PA leading up to the count down. Any way, @ Merriweather I realized I was in for too many of them. That show ended great though.
Anyone know the size of Merriweather?

For a sold out show they will prob squeeze 20,000-21,000
I didn't think it was very small. What is with the traffic? In 98 I drove like 3 to 3 1/2 hrs from NJ and then sat on an off ramp for about 4 hrs before people just hopped the curb and parked/walked from there woodstock style.

Ive been workin there over the summer for the past 3 years and I have seen them sell that bitch out. For Kenny Chesney the lawn was so full people were standing behind the lawn and on the sides where the vending was because there was no space anywhere else. My boss said there was at least 20,000
yeah, it was kinda like that in 2000. It was easily the most people I had ever seen there to that point.

My g/f was at home at the time, and was trying from our desktop. She got shut out, and sounded so dissapointed when she answered the phone. But I turned that frown right back into a smile with the good news of tickets to Merriweather! It'll be her first :phish: concert! Wooo-hooo!

Well then I just missed you -- graduated in 2000. Old man.
Crazy! Were you there when that kid had the Grateful Dead Appreciation Club?
Yup, that's my friend. I was a founding member. 8-)
You know where he got that idea from? That's right, The Bob Marley Appreciation Club from 94-95. Me and my friends started that, ended up being the biggest club in the school that year. Ha ha, that's so crazy, b/c I never met the kids that ended up doing the Dead one, but heard about it later on. :-)
Getting into this thread late, but I will be there. Hometown and college crew are going up. We are basically just going to the shows to destroy antelope19's house. HAHAHAHA what a sucker.

I'm in the same boat. I intend to get up at like 5am and make the trek back to Atlanta. So any floor space would be amazing.

If you're heading north in the morning, you don't want to roll to DC after the show.
If anyone isn't heading to the SPAC the next night, and wants to hang in the area, the very next day, they just announced this little mini fest taking place at Merriweather. I'm considering sticking around for it.

On August 16, Columbia, MD's Merriweather Post Pavilion will host the Route 29 Revue. The one day mini-fest will feature Old Crow Medicine Show, Levon Helm, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Iron & Wine, The Felice Brothers and Justin Jones.

damn, that looks fucking hot dude.
Hey folks, glad to find this place. Merriweather will be my first east coast show, (besides Coventry and Big Cypress, but those were festivals) since my first show at Wolf Trap in '93. This will also be my first show at Merriweather. I was living out west, and got to catch some great Vegas shows and of course the Dark Side of the Moon show in Salt Lake '98.
Anyway,
I usually just go to shows to party and have a good time, sometimes I've had stuff to sell, but usually on foot. This time around I've hooked up with a dude who's been in the jewelry business for the last 50 years. He pulled out some very cool vintage (pre WW-2) millefiori jewelry like I've never seen before. I've been to enough shows to know that this would be a hit with the crowd there, so we are coming in from Dayton, OH to drop the kids with my mom - I grew up in Fairfax Co - and go to the show for the day, hopefully we can make enough to break even for the trip.
So,
I'd like to set up a table, and I'd like to be on Shakedown Street. I assume I'll have to get there early, but if there are any seasoned vendors our there, and / or vendors who know Merriweather Post, any advice would be helpful.
How early should I show up?
Which entrance? And then left, or right, or will I have a choice?
How is the local law concerning vending? - no beer, just jewelry.
I know some of this may be trivial, but it will only be my wife's 4th show, and although I've been to many, I've never been parked on Shakedown, and I think it would be a very cool experience for both of us.
Again, any input would be helpful.
Thanks in advance, looking forward to the show,
-Steve
TBH Merriweather is not the best venue for vending. cops are mega dicks.

Still debating making the trek from Hartford to Merriweather. Already have about 25+ hrs of driving ahead of us and that would tack on an extra 7 hrs to do that before SPAC. How hard do you think it will be to find tickets in the lot?

Merriweather seems to be the one shed show where tickets are in high demand. Darien, Hartford, and SPAC will be flooded with extras but I'm not so sure about this one..
I think it's a combo of the fact that they haven't played Merriweather since 2000 and they're gonne bring the H33T on this evening!!!!!!

I'm leaning towards this train of thought as well, that's why I really want to try to make it.
May just have play it by ear and keep our eyes and ears open for extras after the Hartford show.
But also, aside from the cops, Merriweather is a great place to catch a show. Lets just hope there aren't a bunch of people who decide to abandon their cars on the side of the highway like they did in '98.

Thanks for the advice. I have no intent to sell alcohol, and I will bring some cups to add to the massive piles of garbage.
We'll just show up early and play it by ear. I am not 18 anymore and I do not look like the stereotypical head. Since those two changes, dealing with Johnny Law has seemed to go a whole lot better.
Yeah, i remember having cops bugging me to pour out my beer, which I kept asking why, which was pissing them off, so finally I did it, turned around and just poured myself another as they walked away. It was just stupid, no reason for it, just being jerks.

okey dokey, I need some advice. MPP is 16 hours away from me in Mobile, AL. I don't work weekends. I'm seriously considering trying to make this show. I could leave after work Friday (5:30) and drive through till midnight, crash at a motel, then drive on through to MD, should be able to arrive 4-5. Then rage the show, get up at the crack of dawn on Sunday and drive home in a day, puts me home at 9pm.
So is this too much for one show? Should I do it or just fracking relax and wait for Fall tour?

None. I am pretty turned off by Forecastle still, and not happy about the choice of an Austin Halloween, so I don't intend to give them any more money until they accept the reality of their situation, which is that they can't fill arenas anymore. should of booked the Fox Theater here for Halloween.

Yes I know. I shouldn't have even gone to the Gorge, but the phrase "F IT" was stuck in my head.

And bailing on this one won't be as financially painful as the Gorge would've been. I'm just glad you were able to make it out there!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
fo'sho.
So 'Lope (Lotion Boy) and I were talking earlier today about a 'Paug Meet-up, for this show. The lots fill up pretty quickly, and the HoCo police are usually out in full force.
I live about 15 min from the venue, and usually park in the Columbia Mall parking lot, and walk over to the concert venue. About a 5 min walk. No partying in the Mall lot, it's just a way to avoid the mess of traffic, getting onto the venue's lot.
Since we all have cell phones, I guess we can see who sets-up a tail gate first, and try to find that person.
Or, we could do Will Call. Some parts of the lots are surrounded by trees, so it can be a little tricky, if you've never been there.
I so can't wait for this show! :phish: :rockout: :beers:
the Camden meet-up set the bar pretty high. hopefully we can pull something like that off again.

Anyone know if parking costs money?
And what's the real story on these cops i'm hearing so much about? How bad are they?l
/questions
Cop story:
Bring cups
Good luck selling stuff
Lots open @ 3 and we're hoping to be there round that time as well (Igbo & I & our wives.)

I think this will be even bigger!
I too, should be arriving right around the 3 o'clock mark, so hopefully we'll all be getting into the same parking area's.
Cool, I'll do my best to get there around 3 as well. But we all know how difficult it can be getting a large group of people motivated, organized and in the car.

Yeah, the crew you're rolling with, better tell them you plan on leaving at 1 or so if you want to get them in the car and be there by 3.
Three it is.
Are you married pseudo-Washingtonians planning on doing the Lot or doing the Mall Lot?
ps-I heard traffic is a bitch...any tricks of the trade from locals?

????
Last time I called RJ a "washingtonian", he got all huffy and said he was from "Northern Virginia". So, I was trying not to offend with that title.
Seriously, tho, are you guys parking on lot or at the mall you think?
I was born in Maryland, but have lived in MD, VA, and DC. SO i rep "Washingtonian." and besides sometimes when you tell someone outside of the DC metro you're from VA they think it's all...

That's what I thought too.
But RJ was totally adament about being from NV and not from D.C.
I guess he has yokel pride?
So what is it...the lots or the mall?

Hit the lot, Faux.
Be a man.
C
Wait, what does being a man have to do with it?
Everything.
And absolutely nothing.
Birdman, did you get you be a man and call PTBM? No dice?

See that big 15'-foot fence? I left your tickets on the other side of it. Now eat this bag of shrooms and go get 'em. Just like Mario
are you going to be here all night? someone needs to make a live setlisting thread and I don't want that kind of responsibility because i'm going to be in and out.

This is like the time that I got an A on my Geometric proof test...and then later threatened the teacher that I would "Prove her out of existance"!!!
You all are in so much trouble, it's not even funny. :-P

Also, had to look up the F5 function....refreshing...ha ha ha, good stuff kb!
Ok, terrible news on the FauxPax, ArtVandelay front.
We were supposed to have two extras for this show. Notice the italics? All of these tickets were coming from after market trades. Two of the tickets were for Art and I and the other two were for an acquaintance from this summer who we hung out with at Burgettstown. Well, a day before the show, and we have one ticket. Two of the tickets (which we traded two 10th row field center Fenways for) are M.I.A. and dude isn't responding to emails or his cell phone. One of the tickets was lost by a dude who is probably an upstanding dude with bad luck, but he has promised us he would make this happen (one look at stubhub tells me that unless homeboy lucks out, he may not be able to come through), and we hooked him up with one Asheville in trade for it already...
So yeah, we find ourselves humbly coming to the paug looking for a single Merriweather anywhere in the building or on the lawn. It's crazy. After a summer of getting trades solidified for every single show we've attempted to get into this summer, we find ourselves scrambling at the last minute for a show we thought we had a buffer for.
If anyone anwhere on here knows of a ticket for face or anywhere near face, Art Vandelay and I would both worship the ground you walked on, spread rose petals on your dance space where your feet have been, hook you up with a beer, whatevs.
So, here's the hail mary...hopefully someone out there is sitting on one of these tickets worried they're going to bite it... right? ;)
There's shittons of lawn tix on craig's list.

Let the Karma courts take care of it.
What he said!
Anyhow, looks like the weather is going to be nice! Mid 80's and sunny skies! Should make for a pleasant evening out on the lawn. This whole week I have been riding this wave of happiness from the Gorge, but today I am finally, really starting to get pumped for this show. Last one for awhile, so hoping they bring the h33t!!!
Sorry to jack the thread dudez. And it looks like we are getting stuff worked out on our end (Thanks a shit ton Sophist). See you all tommorrow with bells on!
(I think I'm going to wear my boy scout uniform for this one).
glad its working out, fauxpax.
Ok, so three o'clock it is!
