Gave it a few listens this weekend. Not the best album ever, but Trey has put out worse.

I also will say that I enjoyed GOTF and Sigma Oasis to an extent.

Sigma Oasis, to an extent?  And here I think it's their best record in 15+ years!

I listened a couple more times yesterday both because I dig it and in prep for an HFPod ep (tho I ultimately couldn't join the recording session due to reasons).

I think it's a pretty solid record. It delivers well in the guitar rawk department. It holds the line on Trey (as well as Trey/Tom or Trey/Tom/Scott) lyrical content. No huge surprises there but no straight up Soul Planet tunes either. (FWIW, I think Soul Planet is what the kids call a bop.)

Lotus is something of a mindbender. I love some of it, other bits, I'm not fully sold on. One bit reminds me of Caves of Altamira. Go figure.

More thoughts later.

Thanks but no thanks......

also, really glad I did not have children if this is the metamorphosis one goes through.

Its true.   As soon as I had kids I started writing non-stop ballads about the universe and crying and shit.

We should collaborate.
Is this still Wombat?

Gave this a shot today. It starts out strong, the first three tracks I can easily see being Phish songs. Then there's a nice enough ballad, and then there's quite a few kinda squishy Trey songs, and yeah, that long one has some nice bits, but maybe not enough. Few more solid songs to close it out. Not bad on the whole, especially given the circumstances it was made in.

Of course I say this as an old man with a newish baby, so I spend most of my days weeping at the sad beauty of the universe and how really, when you think about it, we're all just, like, stars, man.

I guess I now have an idea how much Trey misses playing live.

That was fucking awesome.

I see Trey is missing the ability to get a haircut as much as I am.

He wears his a lot better though.

Damn I miss live music.

Pitchfork has an interview with Trey about yesterday's performance. He was so excited to not only be playing live music, but also to have ?uestlove drumming behind him.

That is a great performance!

Nice!

Loved that performance. As ever, The Roots are fire and Trey was gettin' it.

Wow, didn't realize that was Fallon's first in studio guest.  How cool!
