this is so good i actually watched all of it.
there are seven 10 minute sections to this, the most hilarious and devastating video review of a movie i've ever seen. he just completely nails everything about why Phantom Menace is such a total disaster of a movie.
there are a few somewhat odd and tangential bits about hookers and basements, but somehow that's okay, too.
at least watch the first section... it's so worth it.

Holy shit. That was genius. He's so right too. The whole time shit was going on in the phantom menace all I could think was "what in the hell is the point of all this shit?" Nothing made any kind of fucking sense.

oh I believe it. on part 4 now
"and although they are a peaceful people with no army, this asshole seems to be an expert on the process of planetary invasion"

I love it when he's talking about the trade blockade...
...I don't remember specifically but he's like (parpaphrase) "With a lush green planet like Naboo, what kind of space supplies could they possibly need that three days after a trade blockade is set up this is a horrible problem" "also, if they are going to force queen amidala to sign the treaty, why don't they just do this shit without her signature?" and "it's a trade blockade, the purpose is to stop ships from getting through....the qui gon is just going to fly right through there?" also "how the hell did they hit the shield generator if the shields were up?" and "oh, once they get the shields up, the ships just stop firing at them?" and "is this a game that the queen and her handservant play? like hahaha i'll order you to clean the dirty droid when i'm queen and then when you're queen you'll order me to die for the good of the naboo?"
man the movie is so damn funny.
"wait.. why is there a child-size helmet and goggles in the ship?"
i also love how every now and then, totally frustrated, he just throws out lucas' favorite answer to all critics: "this is a movie for children." at which point he cuts to a photo of kids watching tv on which is playing one of the many scenes of the "we must arrange a vote regarding the trade blockade and the new tax to force blah blah" because yeah, right, this is exactly what kids are interested in.
I love how he half-asses pronouncing Queen Amidala so it comes out "Queen Amidalmhh"
really there's no end to the number of funny one-liners and recurring themes this guy uses. it's genius.
"Gungans. Goongans. Gungans. Goongans"
I loved it when he started calling qui gon "Ginny". Every time that happened, I lost it.
Who wants pizza rolls. . . who's been fucking with my medication?

I think I laughed harder during this than I did during "The Hangover" that was kind of an accomplishment for the filmmaker, imo.
I didn't want to watch this at first, because I didn't want to spend 70 min hearing someone tell me something I already know.
But....WOW!!! Not only was that hilarious, but it actually pointed out even more terrible aspects of the "film" for me to criticize. Seriously... my opinion of this movie just went from "Terrible" to "I feel embarrassed for those who were involved".

honestly I can't even get with the whole creation that is the Clone Wars era. I don't like the Jedi, I don't like the Sith. none of it lived up to what I had envisioned in my mind before the prequels ever came out.

imo Episodes II and III are far worse than they generally get credit for so I'm extra stoked for these.

I know I'm a rare minority in that I don't particularly like any of the 6 films, but I very much understand why the original 3 are praised, and I also see a clear difference between those 3 and the prequels.
That said, that was some of the funnier 70mins I've had in a while and will be watching the next 2 reviews very soon.
and SER LOL at the part when he's showing his grandchildrens' star wars toys next to rubble, human bones, and a kidnapped, beaten woman begging to be let go.

I could be misunderstanding the deal, or misunderstanding your comment. But, isn't Disney simply purchasing Lucasfilm from George Lucas and green-lighting new Star Wars movies? If I understand correctly, it will still be Lucasfilm (under the leadership of its current co-chairwoman) producing the films with a new writer/director (who will be working with George Lucas as a consultant).
I believe it's the same deal as when Disney bought Miramax. They own the production company, but their primary job is to green-light its projects, supply funding, and collect their profits when it's all said and done. Even though Disney owns Miramax, I wouldn't really consider Pulp Fiction or Fahrenheit 9/11 "Disney movies". Of course, they always have final approval before they give the go ahead. But in the case of Star Wars, something that's guaranteed to be a hit, I would think the approval process would be a mere formality.
Again, I could be misunderstanding all of this. But, either way, I'm not getting my hopes up for anything better than the last three.
Pretty sure Disney did a fine job with that Avengers film.
As long as they don't Tron the franchise, there is potential...
The real problem with EP 1-3 was Lucas.
His desire to be so hands-on stunk up the whole thing.
The universe is so well fleshed out nowadays that there is vast potential.

QuoteThe trilogy will continue the story of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia beyond "Return of the Jedi," the third film released and the sixth in the saga.
I wonder, same actors? If so, the films would have to be set far enough in time after Jedi. If not, you're talking about giving very well established, recognizable adult characters new faces, which you can bet audiences will have trouble with.

Neither. I think of the prequels more like cocaine or sex with black South Carolina strippers. If they want to experiment with that shit when they're older and can learn from the consequences of their own actions, so be it. But I don't want to be involved.

as much tv as i watch these days every once in awhile i try to get thru a few minutes of 1-3 again. OMG, how horrible are these movies.
i actually bought the dvds and watched them for a few years until it hit me too. i cant even talk about it more than that, lol.
fortunately i love what theyve done with the CLone Wars cartoons... i really hope there is a season 5...not sure.
also, i was watching EMPIRe the other day and was thinking how amazing the Directing was. Does anyone know if that guy ever did any other films worth seeing?
Clone Wars is halfway through Season 5 right now.

I thought I knew you.

i actually caught some old EPs on CW the other night. omg that network is so much fail. for some reason theyre HD channel didnt even have it widescreen and it looked like it was SD. totally killed the experience, lol.

well here's hamills thoughts
http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/10/31/mark-hamill-star-wars-episode-vii-disney/
QuoteENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What did you make of the big news yesterday?
MARK HAMILL: Oh my gosh, what a shock that was! I had no idea that George was going to sell to Disney until I read it online like everybody else. He did tell us last summer about wanting to go on and do [Episodes] VII, VIII, and IX, and that [newly appointed Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy would be doing them. He seems to be in a really good place. He's really happy. And that's nice because I know that when we were making the movies, he was not a jolly guy on set. [Laughs] I always felt badly for him because he agonizes over details, and I'm sure after imagining it in his head for so many years, to see it realized — he'd look up and just hang his head and groan. Harrison [Ford], Carrie [Fisher], and I were always trying to cheer him up and joke him out of his doom and gloom. I missed his call yesterday, but I spoke to him maybe three weeks ago. But until we know more, it's hard to make any comment other than congratulations to George.
So you met with George this past summer and he told you about his plans to make another trilogy?
Yeah, last August, he asked Carrie and I to have lunch with him and we did. I thought he was going to talk about either his retirement or the Star Wars TV series that I've heard about — which I don't think we were going to be involved in anyway, because that takes place between the prequels and the ones we were in and, if Luke were in them, he'd be anywhere from a toddler to a teenager so they'd get an age-appropriate actor — or the 3-D releases. So when he said, "We decided we're going to do Episodes VII, VIII, and IX," I was just gobsmacked. "What? Are you nuts?!" [Laughs] I can see both sides of it. Because in a way, there was a beginning, a middle, and an end and we all lived happily ever after and that's the way it should be — and it's great that people have fond memories, if they do have fond memories. But on the other hand, there's this ravenous desire on the part of the true believers to have more and more and more material. It's one of those things: people either just don't care for it or are passionate about it. I guess that defines what cult movies are all about. We'll see. I'm anxious to know what's going on, but the main story [yesterday] was the sale to Disney. I have mixed feelings about that, but they haven't done badly by Marvel and the Muppets and Pixar. It's one of those big decisions that at first seems unusual but then the more you look at it, the more it makes sense.
When you had lunch with George, did he get into any details with you about where the story would go in the next three films, or whether you would have a part in them?
Well, no, he was just talking about writers and the fact that he wouldn't be directing. I guess he wanted us to know before everybody else knew. He said, "Now you can't tell anybody!" [Laughs] Even now I'm nervous about saying anything. I just don't know!
Did you guys see that Lawrence Kasdan has signed on to pen ep 8?

Hey, if Tupac could perform at Coachella...

Not a typo. The article I read (http://www.nj.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2012/11/lawrence_kasdan_writing_star_wars.html) said he would be doing either VIII
or IX. So, to one degree or another, they're starting to plan all three.
interesting... as long as Lucas stays far far away I'll remain cautiously optimistic
